As this is so new, the only YouTube videos are based in the US. I replaced a 1st generation camera which never failed me, but I have to say the 2nd generation felt better quality when installing which was very very easy. There is now a strap and hook to hold the light and camera assembly whilst you connect the 3 wires, live, neutral and earth. The connecting block is now fixed to the backing plate, whereas before you had to connect the live and neutral to a connecting block in the light casing and earth to the metal body of the light fixing. So much easier as I bashed the previous edition about just connecting the cables. Also for those of you updating like me, the fixing plate screws into the wall with the existing fittings, so no drilling there, but it would be easy if you had too. Alignment is easier now when lining up to mark for drilling or when tightening up to the wall with a small spirit level built in. Testing, the image is slightly better, but even wider, the sound is much improved with noise cancellation and the Birdseye vision uses something like google maps and aligning the forward vision on a map view with what the camera sees and setting the approximate height, it is a relatively east set up, not sure if I would use it myself. Anyway I think it is a good upgrade.
UPDATE. One negative if you use Ring app on an iMac desktop, the new camera is not yet supported, so you can only view on your phone. I confirmed this with Ring customer services. Little disappointed with that, but it will get updated at some point I hope.

Good quality camera with advanced motion features, two way sound, alarm and dual directional lamps

This replaced an existing non-Ring camera and floodlight so, as there’s now a set of good reviews that already cover most features, I’ll just add a few personal comments - it’s only been fitted a week so I’ll update if useful.I was lucky to be able to use the same hole through a single brick side building so only had to drill the two diagonal mounting 6mm holes. The lightweight base then easily mounts securely with the included high quality supplied wall plugs and screws. As the two holes are slots these allow for accurate levelling with the built in spirit level, a typically well thought out Ring feature. As is the built in strap connected to the main camera and lamp unit, which means once the base is mounted you just loop this strap to a hook in the base unit. The main heavy part then safely hangs from the base while you wire up the cabling - only do this if you feel competent and safe with electrics.One word of caution, if using powered screw drivers take it easy when you tighten the screws. While the base mounting slots are thickish plastic using power tools could crack them. I tend to use a normal stubby handled screwdriver for the final tighten so I can feel it’s just gripping to the wall.Once installed using the Ring App made setting up easy, like all their recent products, but you do need to spend a bit of time going through all the various settings.The current UK map resolution for Birds Eye View is rather low, hopefully, this will improve. It’s just about OK as I can make out enough features like land boundary, edges of buildings and hedges. So I can determine where at the whole front of the house anyone moving has been and is now. I’ve attached an image which shows this - the yellow to fading red dots is someone walking past a very blurry small car on the left.So far I’m impressed with motion sensing that records video and notifications sent, plus the images recorded. For my location I would have preferred a 110 degree lens rather than 140 as the extra wide lens means a third of the view isn’t useful. So just make sure the location you intend to install provides the required view. This is my issue, as I should have relocated rather than use the same location - perhaps a future project.There’s separate ranging for motion to turn on the lamps which works well and having two very directional lamps not connected to the camera means you should be able to light up when you need to. As mentioned, I should have relocated my installation for optimum location for the camera which is also true for the lamps.

An amazing piece of kit . Clear camera including night vision far better than my swan cameras . App allows you to manage the lights camera and siren and talk . The ring plus plan is great 8.00 covers cameras and theft thats around 26p a day . Easy to wire used a 7.5mm rubber cable 3 core into a plug and 5 amp fuse. Advice given by a qualified electrician.
