A huge leap forward

My old Samsung Galaxy Tab A2 is really good. I treated myself to this. Wow! Fast, fast, great size & aspect ratio, great battery life, great screen. 100% recommended, no debate. The split screen function turns it into a very small laptop. A game changer.

Read the fine print

I'm sure the tablet is fine, but the technical spec is wrong and contradicts the fine print (see attached). The 32GB comes with 3MB RAM/memory and not 4MB. I missed another review that highlighted this 2 weeks ago. Clearly, Amazon has not updated the page as implied in the additional comments of the one-star review.

It's a great looking tablet and works well apart from the memory. By the time you add your apps you're left with less than 10GB and further updates keep eating into your remaining memory until before you know it it's ground to a half. I've got a 128GB SD card and tried downloading and while it does transfer onto the SD card it drains also drains the tablets memory. There's also nothing that I can see on the tablet that let's you manually swap downloads onto the card from the tablet to save the systems memory . So a word to the wise pay the extra money for more storage. Myself I'll look into the problem further and if it still plays up I'll put in for a refund and pay extra for more GB.

Update....Well night after writing this review....unexpected update happened and now all seams ok....all apps installed but only used 17gb....and have free space! Thanks whoever sent the update...trust restored in Samsung!.will keep and not retrurn.........update.....first review...The worst tablet ive ever had.... more storage on my supermarket basic tablet! Bought extra SD card but wont let me add Apps to it! Ive added just 5GB to tablet and its full! 31.5 of the 32gb! My samsung mobile has far better system! Shame on Samsung for making such a useless tablet. Very disappointed bought it to replace old laptop but cant do basics required. Shame as sound and picture quality great for video etc....but not enough space to download!

Read many negative reviews online about this tablet, but having just bought my wife an A7 which was also panned by the critics and coming to the conclusion that they were mostly wrong I gave it a shot. As before, they are mostly wrong about this tablet. True its not an iPad or one of the more expensive Samsung Tabs but nonetheless its very competent. Two things that let it down are a lack of a flash and mean storage space. You can expand the storage - I believe its up to a TB- so that is mitigated, the camera you will just have to live with. The other criticisms battery life, poor screen, bad build quality must just be down to individual taste or bad luck because none of those issues are present in my tablet. For the sake of fairness I should point out that some people buy tablets expecting them to have the capabilities of a laptop, but it doesn't matter what your poison is in mobile tech, its still just a tablet. So don't expect too much. All in all good enough for most people.

It very good for playing games. Clear screen shows depth of colour.
One thing it lacks it does not have double tap screen wake up, which I thought was basic for all Samsung devices. Maybe an update will correct this issue. So you have to keep pressing the side key to turn it on, annoying and inconveniente. Otherwise good size, light weight and good value for money.

Doesn't come with any themes other than the paint-brush effect you see in the marketing. I would personally like the option to have plain black backgrounds on home screen... not available! Very odd.

Also, the on/off button is right next to the volume rocker and feels identical, so it's very hard to feel the volume rocker and easy to press the on/off accidentally. They should have texturized the volume rocker.

Another strange feature is when turning it off at night... it makes you enter the PIN code to turn it off! Why!?

Aside from these quite minor issues, I think so far it's a lovely tablet, thin, smart looking, feels high quality. Good size screen to body ratio. Has a mini jack headphone socket which is EXCELLENT! Can take a micro SD card which gives you tonnes and tonnes of gigabytes storage.

I use tablets for internet browsing, Kindle books and watching YT. Not for gaming or taking photos/videos.

Good product from Samsung.

This is a really good tablet for general use. Just one thing holds it back slightly - screen quality. It isn't an issue in isolation as it's perfectly clear and bright, just that it doesn't tolerate viewing from any angle: it has to be straight on. The point to bear in mind is the price. For the money, the lack of a cutting edge screen is entirely acceptable. The rest of the tablet is very good. It's fast enough unless you want to play demanding games, it has great speakers, it has sufficient memory for day to day use, decent battery life, reasonably quick charging, it has a quality feel in the hand and above all it's a Samsung product, so you can expect it to work for you for a long time. Samsung has promised security updates for 3 years, and that likely means updates to new Android versions too. I'm really happy with this tablet.

Moved from A6 to A8

A8 contrast levels are not as good as the A6. The helpful 'buttons' on the side have gone to be replaced by swipe up versions that only appear for 3 seconds. It is slightly bigger, quite a bit lighter, faster, battery life slightly longer and improved storage memory capacity. Avoid hard plastic backed cases is the A8 gets hot. Or at least mine does. Although drawbacks over the A6, it is still worth getting.

I bought this for my daughter, and suprisingly it has lived up to expectations from samsung. Battery is decent not a full day of you watching and playing games but last most of the day, charges quickly, very surprised it plays forntite and minecraft ok, is it worth over 200, no we all know samsung tablets are expensive but you do seem to get premium bits for an average tablet, my kids love it use quite often. One thing i wish it could support is the spen my kids loves to draw and its a shame they dont do it for budget tablet's. For those who dont know fortnite is not on playstore its on galaxy store which is only on samsung tablets.

A good tablet at the price. From feedback I was aware that it was probably misdescribed but it will do what I want. However once its running with the preinstalled software there is less than 1 GB Ram left to use (0.9gb) so if you are a gamer it will probably not suit you.

Sometimes it's the smallest of things that spoil.
Rather than a simple push button access to the SD card tray there's a badly thought out process of inserting a flimsy (and easily misplaced) 'key' to unlock it. This has to be done EVERY time, so if you have data on various cards you'll be regularly held up & irritated.
FYI, Samsung, 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'!
