4.0 out of 5 starsGreat Trilogy Set!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 30 May 2022
So lately a lot of old games have been going through the faze of being remastered for the newer gen console, whether with a slight new name or with remaster/definitive edition in the title. GTA was among them with this. following with a trilogy of 3 great classics for the ps2/xbox era and fully remastering them for the newer consoles. New graphics, sound and visuals all with much better controls.

So I decided to get this for the Nintendo Switch and PC to better get a feel for them. Since it was weird seeing a game like this or three to be exact for the Nintendo switch, with the switch compatibly in software. Dont get me wrong the remaster are great at reliving those memories from the past but that doesn't mean every remaster out there lives up to the classic or not, and believe me this trilogy has its fair share of issues but also some benefits.

Firstly starting with the switch version. Frame rates are up and down, and by that I mean sometimes it feels like its not as smooth, especially with a lot of things ongoing around you. similar to how Spyro the Reignited Trilogy was on switch, the motion in frames was slightly off by 5-8 frames. Now im not saying its unplayable because its not entirely true, but the small frame drops can be annoying sometimes. Now the PC version doesn't have this issue and I managed to keep 60fps continuous without it dropping. So I believe its just the switches hardware thats the issue and not entirely the game.

Secondly I want to talk about the soundtrack or radio tracks that have been changed, as in this trilogy most of the radio stations dont have all the tracks from the classic version. Looking further into this, It all comes down to copyright on the music with the artist/label, so its one of the things you have to loose out on. If however you have the PC version you can add the tracks back into the game but you will have to do a bit of modding to do so.

Thirdly is the graphics. On PC it looks stunning and you can add mods to further make the game look better, but on the switch your stuck as either 720p for undocked or 1080p docked and with the switch overall hardware the graphics dont look nowhere near as good as the PC version standard. But then again if you played the classic versions of these titles then its safe to say your used to these types of graphics being more SD rather then HD.

Overall I think its a nice trilogy set, and being on switch means its portable, so it definitely reminds me of playing on the PSP back in the day. So theres ups and downs but overall great games to play.

1.0 out of 5 starsBroken mess
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 11 February 2022
This game is still a broken mess.

On the switch it runs at 20 FPS max, usually dropping below that.

Stay far away.

3.0 out of 5 stars What is on the cart.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 9 March 2022
Edition: SingleVerified Purchase
The cart comes with a slightly patched 1.0.3 which improves somethings over the original digital launch, there are plenty of videos giving details as to what this patch includes online, the games that are on the cart are GTA3 and GTA-SA, from what I can tell it's the full games, GTA-SA has no cinematic cam but this added once you download the updated. Vice City is not on the cart and has to be downloaded separately

There are large patches to be downloaded for each game, 9gb for GTA-SA being the largest

I played the game for a while unpatched and with no downloads, it ran okay, a bit jerky now and again but perfectly playable, some annoying texture pop in and from cars and pedestrians when driving fast.

downloading the updated patch to 1.0.6 and things are much better, way less stuttery frame drops, pop in is still there but seems less and the cinematic cam is there which makes driving and flying around more interesting, I also noticed you can't move the camera vertically up or down while flying, so you the only way you can look at the ground is to fly towards it, you could do this in the PS2 version so why is it missing here?

The original PS2 games were much better with the complete music tracks and analogue driving controls for the throttle, but this is still GTA, I'll give it 3 stars for not shipping the full patched trilogy on 1 cart and being a poor port of a 20 year old game.

2.0 out of 5 stars Nothing like the old days.. game lacks a lot

Not like the old days… not much blood these days and less ammunition and hearts stations. Maps not the best and the streets look all the same with not much interaction. Can’t enter as many buildings unless on a mission and there aren’t as meany different vehicles to steal. Very disappointed…. My expectations were way too much for this game. I think it’s pretty much ruined… no effort put into this whatsoever. I find Lego city undercover is much more fun to play than this game… much more interaction and challenges.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nostalgic Mayhem

After updates GTA 3 runs smoothly. It initially was the worst of the three games and Vice City is also markedly improved but for some reason San Andreas has been given cursory attention. On release I found this game best one to play but now it's been left behind and looks like decay. I hope Rockstar release more updates for S.A. because by far it's most awesome. These games are still good to play though and bring back memories of wasted youth and All-Out Destruction.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good but not perfect
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 6 April 2022

This take me back to when these games were out on PlayStation and Xbox for the first times. These are good remasters of these original games but it it very expensive when you can get them off the apple store for iPad or iPhone for around £5 each, but then again there is something more fun about being able to play it on the switch. The downside of this game is that on the tasks that require the game to spawn people they become impossible as either the switch or the game doesn’t allow that level of people around, the game does at times feel a bit bare compared to the originals. In all of you are like me and have a week off work and the weather is terrible then this is a great past time, if only a bit pricy for what it is.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Game for the Switch But..

- great game.. one of the best on the switch IMO
- graphics are underwhelming compared to other consoles but it's a switch at the end of the day
- price is not that great.. should be at least £22 or slightly lower considering the age of the titles
- there have been updates where the stuttering isn't bad and it's quite stable.. so no issues

everything about the games are great but the price isn't.
