How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings, help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.

4.0 out of 5 starsFantastic summer read
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 21 July 2022
I read The Summer That Changed Us by Cathy Bramley while on holiday. It is a perfect holiday read. This book is set in Merle Bay and follows the stories of Katie, Grace and Robyn, 3 women who meet and form a strong friendship during the summer. I liked this story as it is less of a romance and more about the relationship between the 3 women. Great story, great location, I particularly liked all the references to looking for sea glass, as this is what I was doing whilst I was away, great characters, and a wonderful story to read on holiday. Another fantastic read from Cathy Bramley. I think I have now read all her books!

This is the first Cathy Bramley book I have not enjoyed. It all felt such a cliché. I could predict it all and it did not grip me.

5.0 out of 5 stars A perfect summer read

This was the ideal summer read.

Set in the North East Coast, this is the story of three women: Katie, Robyn and Grace and the friendship that developed between them, despite age and background.

It is also a story of hope and triumph in the most difficult and challenging of circumstances. And how each woman supports the other to find the sun behind the darkest of clouds.

Cathy has yet again written a novel that brings hope to us all. It is a book that made me smile and believe in the power of friendship. It is well written and obviously well researched.

I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sisterhood & Empowerment! (Spoilers)

I was so sad to reach the end of this book! The characters are all lovely and I felt totally invested in them all. There are a few lessons here - the priceless support of good friends (not necessarily old ones!), women are amazing and we should support each other and whether our problems are big or small, they are all valid! A book of empowerment!

This was an easy read, but very fulfilling and I would love to see what happens next in the lives of Katie, Robyn and Grace, such as the relationship between Grace and her sister and her burgeoning new romance with Ned. I love all Cathy Bramley's work and this really does not disappoint!

Despite one a novel reader, I actually enjoyed this Cathy Bramley - the summer that changed us. Some parts were sad but I suppose things like this happens in real life. Well written and I enjoyed the bit where 3 strange women became very close friends and shared their most bitter parts about life with each over. Nothing that I did not like about the story. On my bookshelf now with other of Cathy's novels. Will read again in the future in between crime, forensic and non fiction books.

This book was just what I needed, a book to wrap its arm’s around me and make me feel all warm inside. I forgot how much I loved Cathy’s books, they never fail to disappoint. The female characters are very believable and help you to realise you can take control over your life even if bad things have happened. Relax on the sofa with a cuppa and read this book, you won’t be disappointed.

I didn’t want this book to end, it was so well written. It’s got it all grief, love, friendship, inner strength. The 3 ladies that come together are fab from page one, we could all wish for friendships like this in life. It’s set in the north east, actually not far from where I’m from so it felt like I could really envisage the beautiful little village and it’s surroundings. 5 stars from me

What a thought provoking book, from period poverty, Breast cancer, BRACa gene testing, previvours to survivors, bra fitting, black mail, adultery.....wow the list goes on. But if anything, the girl power and importance of family and friends is exquisite.

I hope a few of them got their comeuppance!

Fabulous read, very empowering!

After reading about this book on an online support page I decided to purchase and I’m so glad I did. I struggle sometimes getting into books and it can take me ages to read one. Not this one. I was gripped within the first few pages and I’ve read this quicker than I’ve read a book in years. I could relate very much so to one of the ladies stories. Great book, easy read, great characters. Thanks Cathy.
