Storage for ps4 games on ps5

Just go to storage through settings on ps5 it will ask you to format once that's done go to your library and download all your ps4 games best to do one at a time. I currently have about 30 games installed on it and they all work fine I really don't need my ps4 pro anymore this is definitely worth buying. Make sure to use the USB,s on the back of the ps5 for faster speed connection 👍

I bought this hard drive for my PS4 after reading that it is officially licensed to PS4, and it stopped working in just 24 hrs of use!!!, it stopped recognising by PS4 as external storage because somehow it started showing capacity on this drive as 144115.2 TB, what a joke!!, see attached photo, I would not recommend this to anyone if some is thinking it is officially licensed for PS4 system and go to buy, it is rubbish.
** its been week i sent the faulty item back I am still waiting to refund***

If you have a PS5, just buy it. It’s a simple as that. All your PS4 games go on to it and run flawlessly, leaving the smaller (but crazy fast) PS5 SSD for PS5 games. I must have 20+ games installed onto it and the PS5 manages it all seamlessly. It’s an absolute gamechanger. Literally 👍🏻

Not a real lot to say here, after all it's just a hard disk.

I needed to buy an external drive for my ps5 as the SSD included with the console is tiny given the size of games.

I didn't want to buy a external SSD as they're too pricey per-GB right now, I had a 2TB from my PS4 but figured I would need a bigger one at one point (as managed to nearly fill it with psvr games) so I bought this 4TB one.

You can play PS4 titles direct from the harddrive but not ps5 games, you can however move ps5 games that your not currently playing to the harddrive essentially archiving them until you want to play them again freeing up space one the internal SSD, apparently moving from external to internal storage is a lot faster then redownloading the game again.

The drive is quiet and I've had no issues with it so far (had it a few months now). Installation was simply a case of plugging it in and formatting it in the ps5 settings (in the storage section).

I paid £84.99 (I think) and it was a pretty solid purchase, nothing to complain about.

July 2021 edit:-
Just thought I would add in the event you are getting ready for your shiney new ps5 to arrive, you can install all your current PS4 games from your PS4 console and this harddrive will plug and play without needing to be formatted, all your installed games will be ready to roll/play on your ps5 straight away (your ps5 will also set itself up to install PS4 content automatically to the external harddrive from then onwards)

Buy with confidence.

Great value for money

Ordered it yesterday afternoon, received it today in the morning, with Amazon prime option.
Package was spot on, a small dent on the cardoard box but didn't affect the actual product that was packed in its own box
After connecting the external drive the PS4 showed 4001 GB and did not recognise the device.
Easy fix was to go into settings/devices/external storage ,selected the harddrive and Doormat it
This trick fixed the issue and now it shows on the system as it should.
I will come back with an update once I get to use it for a bit. Atm I am copying my games on the external harddrive, and I'll be honest it's not the fastest speed. For around 200 GB it shows 94 Min copying time...so don't expect to be as fast as an SSD

Unbox, plug into PS4 USB slot, turn on PS4. That's it. It doesn't need a wall socket like other external drives.

It gets autodetected and formatted. Once formatted it becomes the PS4's default install drive, and you have the option to move any games you want from the internal drive at any time.

Honestly it couldn't be any more easy.

I simply plugged the Seagate in, told my PS4 under Settings/Devices that it was there and lo, there I was with a 4TB extension to my PS4’s storage.

My only criticism is that the PS4 can’t use the Seagate if need to use one of those USB port doubling devices between the PS4 and the External drive. I have to use the PS4’s original USB 3 port. But that’s the fault of the PS4, not the Seagate.

One tip - the Seagate, being small and light, is very easily moved around. I have it on the top of my PS4 due to space limitations. Therefore to stop it getting knocked off the PS4 for any reason and damaged, I have the Seagate securely stuck down with a lump of Blu-Tak. A surpisingly effective solution as it turns out.

Super Speedy PS5

Did a lot of research on which m.2 ssd to buy (WD Black/Samsung/Firecuda) benchmark testing, PS5 only videos, and installed this particular drive in my ps5 for faster game loads.. the ssd i bought was the firecuda 1Tb version with heatsink - very simple to install.

Turned off and unplugged ps5. slide the lid/casing off the bottom of the ps5. Unscrew the ssd casing. position the screw and washer they provide down 1 notch to the 80mm mark and gently inserted the drive, hearing the click as the ssd drive slots in.

Then proceeded to turn on the ps5, which prompted me to format the usb drive… taking a few seconds to format and eventually giving a read speed of 6538.91MB/s as shown in the image - which is to be expected as i think ps5 bottlenecks this read speed around this value. Having a look at reviews of other ssd brands other customers have bought and reviewed.. they all seem to cap out at this 6500MB/s speed so i am very happy the SSD arrived on time (1 day delivery cos gamer), and is performing as expected.

Transferred Destiny 2 and Godfall ~103GB of data from the console storage to this m.2 SSD drive (go to an app, and press options -> move game data) - this took about 1 minute.. to transfer 100GB of data!! incredibly fast.
One thing i did not expect however was that my LAN cable was Disconnected during this data transfer - i did have to switch my ps5 off an on again as this seemed to bug out my lan connection entirely. So I deleted the current Wired Lan profile, restarted my PS5, and then set up my network connection again which fixed the issue - but this i suspect was possibly an intended software feature on Sony's end. I would advise maybe disconnecting any LAN cables during data transfers to mitigate this

I didn't test any Thermal production of the ssd drive however, as i didn't have the tools to do so but from reading around this ssd drive with heatsink is the way to go, custom heatsinks offer ~15-20ºC reduction in cooling, however the drive with heatsink can get anywhere from ~20-30ºC reliably.

Loaded up Destiny 2 and everything was loading noticeabley faster than game storage - from title screen to loading into a game environment was very quick. Would recommend.

Really nice, solid design, and provides double the storage possible for an internal hard drive for the PS4. I've got a 2tb hard drive inside the PS4, and this excellent 4tb external hard drive. As with all hard drives, the way GB are calculated means that 2tb amounts to 1.7 tb in actual storage, and 4tb amounts to about 3.5 GB of actual storage.

I've got one of the older PS4 consoles and I was sick of having to delete games every time I wanted to play a new game. This hard drive worked straight off when I plugged it in, it asked me how I wanted it formatted. Now I have dozens of games available all the time. All the games that I bought off the Playstation Store I've downloaded again and most of them I never finished, plus all the games I had in boxes on the shelf I've now reloaded so my whole library is available all the time.
