5.0 out of 5 starsfor regular level PS4 / XBOX ONE CONSOLE GAMERS ... A HIDDEN GEM
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 18 September 2020
this review is TOTALLY WITH CONSOLE GAMERS IN MIND ( PS4/XBOX ONE ).
also ok with PS5 .... (at least until 4 k hdmi 2.1 monitors 120hz drop below £1000 )

IN SHORT
THIS IS A GREAT CONSOLE GAMING MONITOR ...28 INCH FLAT SCREEN ..137+ PPI ...4K
DELIVERING GENUINE 60 HZ /60FPS POTENTIAL ( GAME DEPENDANT ).
VIA ITS HDMI 2.0. TO ITS MINIMALISTIC ..SLIM BEZEL ... IPS SCREEN ...

GREAT FOR CONSOLE USERS / 6MS QUOTED OVER HDMI ...no issues I can detect .

GORGEOUS STOP AND LOOK AT THE SCENERY COLOURS especially suited to RPG GAMERS

IT HAS A VESA 100 MM MOUNTING OPTION... FAB AT THIS PRICE...
( THE INCLUDED STAND IS BASIC.. WITH NO REAL ADJUSTMENT OPTION....
SO VESA STAND OWNERS CAN JUST SWAP IT OUT )

SERIOUSLY.... I LOVE THIS MONITOR
... ITS THE BEST BANG FOR BUCK IVE FOUND IN A 7 MONITOR SEARCH !!!
(INCLUDING BIGGER NAMES AT UP TO 3 TIMES COST )

FOR ANYONE WITH FURTHER INTEREST.......

Most MODERN monitors provide AT LEAST a display port and a hdmi port

The GREAT specifications headlined on most monitors adverts
ONLY APPLY TO USING THE DIPSAY PORT CONNECTION TO THE PC / COMPUTER.
(THE performance being attained via specific high end grafix cards in gaming machines )

CONSOLES CANT ACCESS THOSE display port FEATURES.( they don't have the display port interface )

CONSOLE CONNECT VIA HDMI port..... which will literally DELIVER sometimes
less than HALF the ADVERTISED performance.

The ps4 pro /xbox one console both have an hdmi 2.0 out
... which in theory can deliver up to 60fps at A 60 hz match to the monitor at a maximum resolution of 4k.

Current generation console games are all written as NATIVE 1080p resolution
so play well on 1080p resolution screens ... but very happily SCALE UP TO 4K
( via the monitors mathematical algorithms)
because the full specs of a 4k screen are 3840 x 2160 pixels
... 1080 x 2 = 2160 pixels

so 2 physical pixels are used for every one written in the games native 1080p code ...
and it takes relatively low processing power to make 2 whole pixels active
( 2 for 2160 ie 4k ) ( 1 for 1080 ) in any give nano second !!

WITHOUT DOUBT ....Native 1080 p visuals look best ON up to 24 inch screen size monitors
and provide the defacto obligatory standard of 91 pixels per inch resolution.

(ANY SCREEN SIZE / RESOLUTION EQUATION MUST EQUAL AT LEAST 91 PIXELS PER INCH TO LOOK GREAT )

but 1080p looks VERY POOR at 32 inch as the ppi drops to 68 ppi .. grainy.
( which is why you you don't see 32 inch 1080 screens...... and only a few 27 inch 1080's)

Now ... seated at a desk a 24 inch monitor GIVES 91 PPI ,, at fastest speeds
( its why this combination of screen size and resolution is the PRO GAMER choice )

A 27 INCH monitor at 1080 resolution will give less ppi... about 81 ,,, and Ive seen 2 panels that give a very good experience ( in my non technical opinion ) at this resolution.... see my other review for these models ... )if you need more than a 24 inch screen at your desktop.

so if thats your set up... at a desk ... those are your first 2 benchmarks...to chose from .
Then follows the need for information on HOW FAST the screen can draw that gorgeous
native 1080 visual VIA HDMI !!!

So now you need to know .....IF .....your MONITOR is providing HDMI 2.0 HOOK UP
......TO YOUR CONSOLES HDMI 2.0 OUTPUT

..... if both are HDMI 2.0 ... you get the possibility of 60 fps at 60 hz MAXIMUM.

EVEN IF THE MONITOR specifications STATE 120 HZ OR 240 HZ.
sadly ... via the humble hdmi...interface YOU WILL GET 60 HZ MAX..... regardless.

BUT .... a true 60 hz max at 60 fps on a console is FABULOUS.... ignore all the pc supremacists
... it is a great set up to get that match !!

TROUBLE IS .... THAT MOST MANUFACTURERS HIDE THE FACT THAT ON MANY MONITORS
THEY ONLY SUPPLY. HDMI 1.4 CONNECTORS ........
so your lovely hdmi 2.0 60fps / 60 hz output from your console GETS THROTTLED DOWN....
TO 30 HZ OR 30 FPS.... OR LOWER !!!!

SO YOU NEED TO DRILL DOWN AND FIND THOSE HIDDEN HDMI SPECIFICATIONS..
HDMI 1.4 IS A DIFFERENT THING TO HDMI2.0......AND YOU WOULD BE SHOCKED TO FIND SOME TOP END 600£ MONITORS WITH FANTASTIC SPECS VIA DISPLAY PORT TO PC USERS ....
FITTING THE lowly hdmi 1.4 ...delivering less than 30hz/30fps MAX to console users !!!!!!!
( in fairness they are really in the pc market.....the hdmi is an add on.... but its still shocking to me )

EVEN IF FREESYNC IS ADVERTISED VIA DISPLAY PORT... it may not apply to hdmi2.0
and most likely will not be there for hdmi 1.4

I know this because ive just been through the long and winding process of trying to find honest specs on monitors online........ its not always available... and sometimes you just have to try the monitor and see for your self which options your console can see/use and which get greyed out...
..( in my defence I always ordered an AMAZON opened warehouse return..if available ...... knowing that on monitors ... the chance of a simple mis-match is high... often the monitor is perfect.. at a discount... )

I wanted a bigger monitor than 27 inch so started looking...

AT 32 INCH SCREEN SIZE.... WE ARE ON THE SEARCH FOR A RESOLUTION THAT CAN DELIVER AT LEAST 91 PPI

WE KNOW 1080P CANT.. SO WHATS NEXT ?

1440p RESOLUTION monitors deliver 91 ppi at 32 inches.... GREAT !! ( thought !! )

But in actual fact any 1440 p monitor ..using hdmi to a console .. ( CERTAINLY TO A SONY PS4 PRO )
MEANS THE CONSOLE REJECTS THAT RESOLUTION.!!!!
in the ps4 display options screens on a 1440p monitor the only available option is 1080 p !!!
all other resolution option tick boxes for choice get greyed out...
Sony ps4 can do 1080p or its direct multiple. 2x 2160..aka 4k ) it won't touch 1440 p which would necessitate the use of algorithms to deliver 1.5 pixels on screen per 1 written in 1080p game code.

and as we know 1080p on a 32 inch monitor is delivering 68 ppi ...horrid...grainy .

so if you want a BIGGER MONITOR ( 28 -32 INCH ) you have to jump up to 4k.
... ie ...... two times ( dr disrespect ) and move up to ITS LUXURIOUS 137 ppi

SO WHATS THE CATCH ???

the console / monitor is now moving massive amounts of data around per nano sec.. to deliver all that detail at that size....... and those better panels are not cheap..... 4k at 60hz at 32 inches has to be delivered by hdmi 2.0

go and look for yourself how many can supply that for under £1000. get the spec sheets out.... you'll be gobsmacked at hOw many manufacturers sell their monitors without advertising WHICH HDMI port they supply. cost is no guide !!!!!!

I couldn't find one. ( that 4k 32 inch hdmi 2.0 tends to be coupled with moving up to 10 bit panels.. and throw the price way above £1000 late 2020)

but I did find this gorgeous Lenovo 28 inch 4 k genuine 60hz over hdmi 2.0 at under £300
a hidden gem.................( it even has 8 bit panel with FRC .. so emulates a 10 bit panel here ...
YES I know its 2 inches short of my dream... but I also found that many so called 32 in curved panels are closer to 31.5 ,, and with the curve ..actually seem a bit smaller than that .... comparable to this 28 inch flat screen.)

so Im sticking here ,,,, until THE PS5 LANDS WITH ITS HDMI 2.1 OUT PUT.... PROMISING 120 HZ AT 4 K ....
.. budget monitors with hdmi 2.1 will be many many months away ... but at least with the Lenovo Ill get 60 fps / 60 hz :)

ps regarding xbox one x
( there may be specific game patch exceptions to this ( Witcher 3 ) where 120 hz may be available if the monitor can match that... but good luck with finding a monitor that can supply that over hdmi 2,0 !!!!!! )

3.0 out of 5 starsNot awful, but certainly not great for 2019 MacBook Pro
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 10 August 2020
I bought this to use as a WFH monitor (no gaming). First impressions were that it's a big, solid monitor, but after a few days of use realised there are more short-comings than positives.

Out of the box settings were great, good colours and brightness, but using a USB-C to displayport cable, the image was still jerky and not smooth at all when upscaling from the MacBook to the monitor. Another small gripe was the wobbly nature of the monitor stand, every time I'd type the screen would shuffle from side to side - annoying when I'm typing for long periods.

Good promise, not so great in practice, returned for a refund.

4.0 out of 5 stars How do you rate “sheerness” (the adjective, not the place)?
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 21 August 2020
Size Name: 28 Inch 4K UHD IPS 60HzVerified Purchase
Ok, this is a sleek monitor, bright, solid images, responsive, usable menus, enough ports and great build quality. I can rate all that and it scores well. Not a gamer’s monitor I gather (I’m not a gamer) but it does what I want it to very well.
Niggles? Of course - the main one being that it pretends it has audio on the HDMI channel so it ends up as the default audio output, without actually having speakers or an audio jack. That’s just stupid. The stand is basic (tilt only) but it tells you this on the product info and it does have a VESA mount so you can upgrade when you’re ready.

The only other niggle is that the Amazon review page allows me to rathe the monitor for Value for Money, Picture Quality and “sheerness” and I honestly can’t say how sheer it is! A bit? A lot? Totally? Maybe it’s rad, not sheer. Maybe it’s neither. We will never know - thanks Amazon.

I love this monitor, this is my first EVER monitor, and at 4K the picture is phenomenal, even does 1440p at 60Hz too, bonus 👍🏻
Perfect size and picture quality as well as colour is perfect when FREE Sync is turned off and picture put to Game (I'm using for console gaming), if you have a PC you will most definitely benefit using FREE Sync, as you can change settings on your PC for the test of the settings.
FREE sync is available along with VRR on Xbox One X now 😮😯👍🏻

GOTTON
1.0 out of 5 stars I don't know what product the other reviews got, but this is an awful monitor
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 25 November 2021
Size Name: 28 Inch 4K UHD IPS 60HzVerified Purchase
I bought this monitor as a Black Friday deal thinking that it was a deal that was too good to miss... It turns out it was too good to be true. A 28inch 4k IPS panel with 99% coverage of the sRBG colour range for under £200 was something I couldn't pass up, and something that this item doesn't deliver on. Here's what's wrong with this monitor:

CONTRAST
The contrast on this monitor is absolutely awful. Not a single spot on the monitor gets dark enough for what I would consider to be black, and not a single spot gets bright enough for what I consider to be white. Therefore even after hours spent trying to calibrate this monitor, everything looks washed out and grey.

BRIGHTNESS
Mixed in with the last point, this panel simply doesn't get bright enough to produce anything even resembling a top-quality image. I have a 2nd 4k monitor that I bought on the cheap 3 years ago that this was supposed to be an 'upgrade' for, and it blows this monitor away for brightness (and in all other metrics actually). Unless you are in a dark room all the time, the brightness on this panel just doesn't cut it.

COLOUR ACURACY
As a designer and illustrator, colour accuracy is important to me and a big driving focus of upgrading my monitor. This was easily the WORST aspect of this monitor. As a consequence of the two previous points, the colours are washed out and miserable looking. However, they're also not even slightly accurate to any image I tried on it, again even after hours of attempted calibration. Mid to dark blues became turquoise, it was over saturating a lot of colours, and there looked like a green cast to the screen that was just impossible to calibrate away. And this isn't just an over-picky designer holding it to an impossible standard, these were ENORMOUS changes that literally changed an image that is mostly dark blue to something that was almost turquoise. Comparing this between my second monitor, an iPad Pro and the LED screen on my phone (all of which had similar colours for this same image), this was like it had a strong filter in front of it and that's just unusable from my point of view.

So overall, this is a monitor that simply isn't fit for purpose no matter what the price it is available at. It can't provide the base functionality that a monitor needs to provide which means that I don't think you should be able to even give this one away. It has gone back for a refund and I strongly recommend that you steer clear of this product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great value 4K IPS screen with superb picture quality for the money
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 16 June 2020

Great value 4K monitor. I nabbed this when it was down to £230 and cannot complain. The bezels are larger than advertised but you're being picky if that really bothers you at this price - unless liking two up side by side it's perfect.

Picture quality is amazing as it's an IPS panel and the high resolution detail makes everything pin sharp. Text is crisp. I got it running at 60hz through DisplayPort on my work laptop, and 60hz on my gaming laptop through HDMI. Be warned if you don't have an HDMI 2 port, it will only so 30hz, a limitation of the port not the monitor.

There's a little motion blur but generally haven't had any problems. Primarily use it as a WFH screen.

No height adjustment but sits okay on my desk, must match my requirements out of the box, and happy with the tilt adjustment.

Would happily recommend this for the IPS panel alone.

Oh and it goes pretty bright too. Unless the sun is on it I tend to have the brightness most of the way down. So if you need the colours and whites to pop it'll do that.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good monitor but zero support from lenovo
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 17 June 2020
Size Name: 28 Inch 4K UHD IPS 60HzVerified Purchase
Replaced a pair of 24inch Dells with 2 of these. My expectation was the picture might go up to the bezel but it was not clear as various images online for this monitor gave different impressions even when zoomed right in. Another reviewer noted the same bezel issue but I was happy to buy even with the 5mm around the edge of the picture it is same as the Dells I was replacing and getting a true edge less display at this price is a big ask. That said I think Lenovo is misleading people with some of their advertising pictures. The picture quality and resolution is great and I can not fault and I will not be returning them as they are great value. I thought it was worth asking Lenovo support about the bezels after first renewing all the drivers , the support however from them is none existent and they closed the ticket after asking me to call a uk number that no one answers hence down rating these by a star

There are 2 problems with this screen.

First, it is not bezel-less. In fact, it has decent bezel around the side but it's just made to look like part of the screen. What this means is that the screen is less (i.e. it's not 28"). But the WORST...absolute worst part is that there is no way to touch the edge of the screen without leaving a mark. You will leave your finger prints on this screen before you've even turned it on. It's a blatant lie and with it goes my trust for the rest of the screen.

Second, it is not 75Hz. Technically it is a 4k @ 30Hz. It can support 4k@60Hz but this requires a special cable which they've not included because the standard HDMI cable included does not support 4k@60Hz.

All in all, out of the box, this is a 4k@60Hz monitor and the bezel lie and the fact that this requires further purchases to get it to work 4k@60Hz is just shameful.

3.0 out of 5 stars Its really not that great

Its a budget 4K screen and I am not impressed by the image quality.
The factory contrast ratio not too high and the real one even lower (blacks are mostly darkish grey). The image looks greyish. The viewing angle not as good too (you can notice the colour loss in even a small angle change and barely visible image when looking from the sides). Ended up sending them back as there are several exaggerated marketing statements not even close in reality, but for its price it's might be a good option for many. It's a screen with a decent resolution but I couldn't recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars I picked this over the LG 27UL600 / 27UL650
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 25 September 2021

I originally planned to get the LG 27UL600 / 27UL650 for the HDR400 specification and the supposedly better panel (the difference between the 600 and 650 is that the 650 has a height adjustable stand thus is more expensive). I then noticed that this monitor was on sale for cheaper than the UL600 and it seemed other reviewers were happy with the picture quality. I am not a creative professional, but I care a lot about light bleed, uniformity and decent enough colour accuracy. I did an eizo monitor test and can report that there are no dead pixels, light bleed or uniformity issues. The gamma was also normal so no issues there as well (unlike the HP Z27n G2 I recently tested, which was making weird/ artifact-like patterns, which could not be fixed even by adjusted gamma in Nvidia control panel). I applied a colour profile which you can find by going to the "Monitors" subreddit and searching for "Lenovo L28u-30 27" Inch Monitor icc icm color profile calibrated (download) measurement report". It is bright enough for my indoor environment, though when it is bright outside the reflections become a bit annoying for dark content (see the next paragraph). Overall for these positives, it's an excellent choice if the negatives I mention in the next paragraph are not deal breakers.

The only negatives I have found thus far is that the screen is quite reflective, I would say it's average in this respect. I guess that's par for a non 3H anti-glare coating. And that the bottom of the monitor (the chin with the Lenovo logo) is quite thick, and the logo in a reflective silver is quite obtrusive. But I'm really nit picking at this point considering how much cheaper it was compared to the LG. Bezels are also like 6mm thick on the top, left and right. With the advertised 3mm bezel only at the bottom of the screen (except there is like a 2 cm chin at the bottom). I found these bezels to be thin enough for my use case. A real negative is that the stand apparently sucks since it's wobbly unable to support the weight of the monitor. I didn't test this so I can't comment on this, but I would recommend getting a monitor arm since the default stand doesn't provide any adjustment at all. You can factor this into the price of the monitor compared to getting something like the UL650 which has an adjustable stand built in. On screen buttons are ok, I prefer them at the front than behind, it has average customisation options. So how is it for gaming? Sorry I can't say other than the ghosting performance is average, nothing spectacular, about par for IPS displays. Though I doubt you would be buying a 4K 60hz monitor for competitive FPS gaming, it's good enough for a casual RTS gamer like me. It doesn't go 75hz either, just in case you thought it did (it was mistakenly written on the Lenovo website when this launched in 2019).

The 28.5 inches compared to the 27 inches of the LG 27UL6XX series wasn't a major factor for me, but a plus I guess. You won't find a large difference in PPI at all. I would personally say that a 1440p 27" monitor is not enough PPI for it to be retina, so I would go 4K for a 27" for sure. I was used to using a Samsung 24" 4K IPS monitor as my daily driver prior, and I was glad to see that the increase in size from 24" to 28" while keeping the same resolution didn't affect the perceived clarity as much if at all (I can't notice at my viewing distance of 65 cm. If you go for any bigger of a monitor e.g. 32"+, you'll probably have to have an extremely deep desk, since you would have to sit quite far back for it to be usable.

Coil whine does not exist, which I am glad for since I am very sensitive to high frequency noise no matter how quiet it is (my desk environment is completely silent). Supposedly having the PSU unit integrated into the monitor may make it more susceptible to coil whine (and flicker), my unit didn't have either of said issues. For normal people you can disregard this entire paragraph, unless you get stressed like me when buying a GPU from worrying about it having loud coil whine. Another probably nonexistent issue is that the brown cardboard box has no handles at all, so it is unwieldy to carry around, it is also protected by Styrofoam, so it is adequate protection but not the most protective and environmentally friendly solution. This packaging makes it harder to transport, so keep that in mind.

TLDR; I like this monitor, my unit had a good panel with no bleed or uniformity issues, reflective coating is average, if you get a monitor stand or have one, I would get this over the LG one if you can find this for cheaper.
