Lovely novel!

I absolutely loved this book - didn’t want it to end, and wondered if there’s any chance of a sequel. A really enjoyable family story about the impulse purchase of a country pub and how it impacts on both the family and local people. Highly recommended!

I love her books, especially the Honeycote series, but this well, it was not for me. Far too sickly sweet with too many coincidences to ring true, the millionaire guy who saves all the village unfortunates got on my nerves the most along with descriptions of the family matriarch who owned the perfect wisteria covered cottage and her doctor husband and other far too many unbelievable and unrelateable people. Sorry Veronica, just my opinion.

Is that they are unfortunately unputdownable. So they seem to be far too short. I promised that this time I would strictly keep to only a chapter of two a night. But found it was a couple at breakfast, lunch and bedtime. This one is so beguiling you're sucked in immediately and firmly in love with the main characters at once.
Another masterpiece. Thank you. When's the next due???

I've read most of Veronica Henry's books and found those about beach huts a bit too unrealistic and sentimental. The new novel The Impulse Purchase represents a sea change for Henry as the characters are all well developed, the plots develop in a natural way and the ending is satisfying.
She writes with vivid detail about home decor and food. I love the way she describes the countryside and our yearning to be back in the rose tinted years of our childhood - not to mention in the warm embrace of an English pub done well. It was fantastic to see a book built mainly around women, all succeeding in their own right, from the energetic grandmother Cherry to her granddaughter Rose, who grew and developed in the book.

I absolutely loved this book and didn't want it to end. I've read a few books by this author, and she's fast becoming one of my favourites. The way she writes about families with their lives intertwined, wants you to be there with them.

This book is about 3 women, a Grandmother, Cherry; Mother, Maggie and Granddaughter, Rose; of course, there's Gertie too, Rose's daughter. Cherry buys her childhood local pub after her Mother dies, she great at renovating property and feels she can make the pub great again. After events in Maggie and Rose's lives, they decide to take the plunge and help Cherry.

However, Cherry's partner (Maggie's Father) is facing his own crossroads, retirement and what to do with his life. He thought it was mapped out, with Cherry and he going travelling, but she buys the pub. Is this the end of their 50+ year relationship?

Full of love, understanding, changes and helping others, I was totally immersed in the book, and didn't want it to end. I'm hoping they're may be a book about the 2 other women who play a big part in the book, Chloe and Winnie? I can dream...

I'm going to go back and re-read all the books I have by this great author, then buy others.

This is a must read book, and one which I will go back to time and again.

Veronica Henry books have provided me with many happy hours of reading and this one was no different; I loved it. As someone who grew up in a Somerset village myself I felt totally at home in the story and could picture the beautiful setting and unique Somerset countryside. This book has all the summer feels and a lovely, life-affirming storyline. Previous reviewers referred to unlikely coincidences in the story but I definitely missed those?! It's a perfect read for summer (or any time) and I highly recommend it... speaking as someone who enjoys a wide range of reading, including escapist but well-written books such as VH's.

This book got me at the very first paragraph. I love it when an author does this, because you just KNOW, that by the time you're into the next chapter, the characters start to feel like your best friends, or even, family, as you know them so well. I rated this book as I did, because I love Veronica Henry's style, and although they say you should never judge a book by its cover, but this grabbed me, and the minute I was 'IN', I just knew it would send me on a journey of twists and turns, tears and laughter, and I could quite easily read it all over again.

What a glorious, feel-good read. I couldn't put it down. I am not picking up another Veronica Henry book until I have achieved something tangible - I always have to read in one sitting to find out how the characters deal with their challenges- the only criticism is that the books enthral me and I not getting on with my jobs with the energy and determination of the Three Swans! Romantic but wise. Thought provoking and inspiring. Go Veronica!
