DO NOT BUY THE SPRAY!

I feel very mislead by this product. The reason I purchased it was because I have fair skin prone to burning and it states to have a 5 star UVA rating - be warned this only applies to the CREAM NOT THE SPRAY.

I used the spf 50 spray whilst on holiday in Madeira making sure I generously applied everywhere, I got so burnt it felt like I'd put no sunscreen on at all I was shocked. A few weeks later I purchased the cream in SPF 30 and went out in the sun all day and was absolutely fine! The difference between the cream and spray is striking and it should be made clearer that THE SPRAY DOES NOT CONTAIN 5-STAR UVA RATING.

If you are fair skinned please only buy the cream as the spray does not protect you adequately!

Great sun protection, but can’t get it out of the spray

I have loved Altruist for a few years now, great value, perfect for sensitive skin. But sadly they’ve got it wrong here. The spray clogs up after a few seconds and despite running it under a tap and trying to intermittently unblock it, it’s unusable and here on my holiday, I’ve had to buy locally sold, expensive, suncream. Bitterly disappointed. The issue is not the product, it’s the spray. I still have 2 almost full cans and frustratingly cannot get the sun protection onto my skin. I’ll go back to the cream next time. Gutted.

I question whether this is the genuine product as I have used this product in the past after it was recommended by a dermatologist with no problem. However this time I am absolutely fuming that I trusted it to protect my child whilst outdoor swimming. It wasn't a particularly hot day with intermittent sun and knowing that this product claims to be water resistant thought it would be a 'quick to apply non-white factor 50' sun protector to use whilst my daughter went swimming. It was reapplied during the session (as I always do) and the result was horrible sun burn. I am livid. My daughter has never been sunburnt in her life despite the number of outdoor sports she participates in. Never again will I trust this product! My adult son also applied this product to his arms and legs and also sunburnt. He was spectating only and not in the water. Other people spectating did not even use any sun protection and were fine. I wonder if not using any product would have been better. Lesson learnt.

Terrible… spray doesn't work!

Bought this on the basis of it being highly commended by a consultant dermatologist, despite it being way more expensive than other “dry mist” sunscreens. However, after spraying for around ten seconds, the spray ceased to work. This happened to both bottles in the two-pack. Frustrating, as the can was clearly full but it wouldn’t dispense.
In addition, my wife developed significant skin reaction on her legs which improved with antihistamines. Having read some of the other reviews on nere, I wonder whether this was contact dermatitis, related to the sun spray. This if true, would be highly ironic, given that it was specially developed by a dermatologist!
I would avoid and go for another brand.

Avoid the spray cans

I love Altruist and it really suits my eczema prone toddler but I have bought and now returned 2 lots of this spray on product due to malfunctioning spray cans. Had the same product last year with no issue so clearly a manufacturing problem. The press button on all 4 cans was faulty and instead of spraying evenly, the cans either didn’t work at all or a hard jet stream of freezing cold product was dispensed which made my toddler scream the place down and has now made sun cream application difficult (I tried it and it hurt my skin so must have been really sore for her). Such a shame as had the same product before and loved it but will avoid in future and purchase a different Altruist sun cream.

I ordered 6 pairs of the spray and took them on holiday only to find that none of them worked properly. There is clearly something wrong with the nozzle or the propellant. Some would work for a minute then stop. Some would keep spraying after you removed your finger from the nozzle. Some would not work at all even though you could hear the liquid inside. Some would not work one day but would partly work another day. Not one of the 12 could we use from start to finish. I contacted Altruist directly twice on their contact page and neither times have they bothered to reply. as I said HUGELY DISAPPOINTING. Do not buy the product until they sort out the problem and sort out their customer service - or lack of!

Unfortunately can not give a proper review or comment on usefulness of product, as I bought 2 tins for holiday, but both cans did not work/spray ... clogged up after 10 seconds, gas came out but not lotion, very disappointed, so could not use had to rely on my factor 30 by a different brand for the duration of holiday 😖

This stuff is amazing, my husband consultant told him not to go in the sun, due to his allergy. We had already booked an Indonesian holiday! We bought this, he was able to sit out in the sun and enjoy the holiday. We bought more on our return due to the good weather at home, he hasn’t reacted at all to the sun, this is life changing for him.

Pointless! Spray doesn’t work on multiple bottles!

Purchased this as the brand was highly recommended by a family member for my eldest daughter (4) who is allergic to most sun creams.

I wanted a spray for easy quick coverage but these spray breaks within two uses. It either stops spraying with no sun cream being expelled, or sprays non stop when you’ve stopped pressing, wasting a lot of the product.

What’s more the liquid leaks out of the top of the bottle.

VERY unimpressed.
