I have honestly had £15 printers second hand that have been battered for years than this! I'm no technophobe but this was a nightmare to set up, it wouldn't connect to the wifi, after painstakingly 'switching it on and off again' 20+ time it eventually did. The actual printing itself is SUPER slow, and the printer continually just decides it wants to be offline and provides error codes. I'm pretty sure a USB should've been included in the package as well but wasn't.

Print quality is shocking - If I wasn't desperate for something for home I'd be sending this right back!

Be aware you need a lot of time to set up this product.
You need to install an online guide to your computer or mobile device. This necessitates joining &/or downloading various other material or software. Also required is a secure password that exceeds the complexity of those for banks - and a call back verification to your mobile phone. Once you manage to actually get installation instructions be careful. There are a few need to do steps not mentioned.
Definitely not a plug and play device.

In order to use the features of this printer (like scanning) you must sign up an account with them and hand over your personal details. You have no choice on the matter. You then have to agree (no other option) to let them save your usage information. Who would have thought a simple thing like using a printer would involve big brother. I would not purchase this product again.

The product on the box and the product in the box may look fairly similar but they are two completely different products. The one on the box is a newer model and works with other online systems. The product in the box is the 2700 all-in-one series, not the 2710e all-in-one series as it says on the box and as is the product I paid for. Extremely unfortunate that I had to suffer this. It's probably the last time I will ever buy tech from Amazon. This printer is failing to complete a setup connection with my PC and as it is a Bank Holiday, there is no HP personnel available to assist and support in the matter. A very unfortunate situation. I have tried everything to make it work and nothing seems to do the trick. It either print with some functions missing on the HP smart app or the functions show and it doesn't print but requires you to finish setup. When it fails the setup it doesn't mention what the problem was/is in order to correct it.

This printer came nicely boxed and looks nice considering the low price. I read the reviews prior to buying and thought it might be a painful installation process, but it was completely opposite; If you are competent with phones/computers it is simple to setup. Print quality is good if not a bit slow. Havent had the printer long will update if anything changes.

Quite hard to get it go with all the accounts ,paswords , calibrations and registering.
It works fine whenn all is set. The hp smart app is complex and with lots of usefull options to print including birthday cards , blank cv's documents. Pictures can be printed. All from your phone. Note. For pictures it uses a lot of ink.

There are three parts to my experience of this product, and though I'm only meant to be writing about the printer itself, it would be impossible to isolate HP+ and the software required to use it.

PRINTER
The printer itself is incredibly easy to use, with unfussy paper and document feeds and a no-fuss glass plate scanner which works quietly and quickly. My last printer was a very fussy Pixma and, in comparison, this piece of kit is significantly easier to use, load and maintain.

The print quality is good enough for us to have printed out photos onto normal paper for framing, and the printer will print large documents efficiently and quickly. It's very quiet when it's at work so you don't have to worry about the background hum interrupting phonecalls and the like.

It's nice to have a very straightforward, simple way to load paper and to be able to scan bundles of documents at once. Similarly, the ink cartridges are easy to orient and load, though the first stout "CLICK" was a little unnerving!

SOFTWARE AND SET-UP
To set it up, you need to log it onto your wireless network and then find it in your network on your device, which can seem a bit fussy if you've never had to do it before, but does mean you only need to do it once and then it's sorted.

I can understand why some people might find the setting up process a bit of a pain, especially as it relies so heavily on Bluetooth AND wi-fi. The only thing I can say is to get a cuppa and work through it slowly, starting with turning on Bluetooth on your phone while downloading the HP app and taking it from there.

Setting it up on a static PC is actually a little more difficult and requires you to download software from 123.hp.com and then it can be a bit mystifying to get the printer visible on your machine, particularly if it's already part of your network.

HP+
Truly the biggest hang up I have about printers is the cost of ink replacement and good quality paper. I don't print often and, on my last printer, found the sudden cost-hit of cartridges to be really expensive. Plus they couldn't be reused or recycled and it all just felt incredibly wasteful.

It's good to see that HP have given this thought and developed a monthly subscription model that factors in the cost of your ink. But it's actually far more than that - your ink gets delivered to you automatically, you send back the old cartridges for refill and reuse and they even allow you to roll over unused pages to the next month of your plan.

On top of that, I've got about 9 free months of ink = allowing up to 700 pages a month to be printed (colour and black and white) - which is an incredibly good deal for what will end up being £4 for the whole year.

CONCLUSION
Getting 2 desktops, 2 phones and a laptop to be able to connect to the printer was a bit annoying and, particularly the laptop, very frustrating. However, once done, the app allows you to print from literally anywhere (a friend of ours who is also my son's English tutor printed a Christmas greeting from the other side of the country!), and allows you to easily track how much ink is left, how many pages you've printed, whether a new ink delivery is on the way and so on.

The printer itself is quiet, efficient and easy to use, and has been surprisingly enjoyable to use once everything was sorted, and signing up to HP+ is the cherry on top as I don't feel I'll be hit with £40 cartridge costs out of the blue anymore, while knowing that sustainable wood and cartridge recycling is all part of the service.

The most difficult printer I have ever dealt with

I have had many printers in my long life, mainly Epson however I decided to get this budget printer.

It is the most difficult printer to install, maintain to be installed I have ever dealt with.

I’m loving the free instant ink for 9 months (see question section on this listing for extra months of instant ink codes, I used one successfully!)

After I eventually successfully installed my printer and printed like a mad person!, a week down the line it is constantly showing as ‘unavailable’. I open the app and it shows no printer installed. So I go through the process of installing again ‘can’t install’ or ‘error retry’ messages keep popping up.

I spent an hour yesterday trying to re install it AGAIN but with all the errors so I gave up.

I will try again but as much as this printer prints really good quality pages, I’ve come to the conclusion that it is just really difficult and a pain in the a.

Would I recommend? I’m 50/50 on this one. Even an experienced techy like me is at my Whitt’s end.

UPDATE: 14/11/21 I’ve used this printer for a few months now and it is an absolute nightmare. The Instant Ink free trial for 9 months - is it really free? Nope. HP tried repeatedly to take £10 from my account. I thought it was a free trial!

Also, if your account gets suspended because you refuse to pay for ink that is supposed to be free, guess what HP does? Disables your printer so you can’t print!

Also, if you cancel the HP subscription so called ‘free trial’ (BS) they disable ALL the ink cartridges you have purchased!! Yes, they do!! I read it and have experienced it first hand.

Basically, if you get the ‘free trial instant ink’ HP basically has dominance over your printer! I have cancelled the subscription and whatever free trial but according to HP I have to wait until 24/11/21! In the meantime, I cannot Unregister my printer and relinquish any control HP has over my printer. So I can’t print. The warning icon flashes and so does the envelope icon on the display - which means I haven’t paid (refused to pay) £10 for ink that’s supposed to be free. Hence, they have disabled my printer and won’t let me print! My cartridge levels show as full as Well.

I have never known such a company that has so much control over an item that I legally own.

Bottom line: I do NOT recommend this printer at all. The price tag is appealing and so is how the printer looks but believe me, you will regret this purchase. I’m going to go back to Epson. Epson did the job without so much hassle and little printing like this printer. You’ve been warned!
