5.0 out of 5 starsJust adjust equaliser ( see photos) Easy fix for headset volume via Bluetooth (phone, tv etc.)
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 21 March 2021
Wow for the money it’s really good. I have steelseries arctis 1, turtle beach 700 gen 2 and Astro a10, and I am massively impressed by this. Out of the box, the settings are not great, but I tweaked around with it and came across the setting in the photos. You could may be increase in he left hand bar by one (bass), however I think it’s about right. It reduces the bass and gives better mids, to highs.
Comfort wise it’s one of the best I have used. I am bold and wear glasses, and these don’t make me feel uncomfortable at all. It’s far better than the other 3 headsets I have for comfort. It’s difficult when have short hair and glasses, but these amazing. I have connected them to my iPhone and it all works as it should.
If you have a Xbox, then this is a must, plus a bonus of working with your phone.
You may find the voice is not as loud via Bluetooth, but their is a easy fix. Play music on zero volume, put headset to zero. Once you done that turn Bluetooth off and on and connect headset again. Problem solved and the headset gets loud. Just figured this out through chance.

3.0 out of 5 starsAtmos Cups
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 August 2022
If I’m honest I’ve been spoilt by the use of the Plantronic RIG800 LX headphones, which offers sublime comfort and 50 mm cups for your ears. The Xbox version is nice although only 40 mm headphone speakers and a little tight on my big head. That said it’s hard to find an affordable headset that offers Dolby Atmos that comes to life in gaming and films. I paid under £90 for mine and looking to see how they fair in longevity as reviews mention mic problems and headband snapping as this really is just a bit of plastic with padding on it. Like I said I have a big head, it gets uncomfortable after awhile of wearing so marked it down for that and the stupid volume controls. The twist action on the earpieces make it near impossible to put them on without changing the volume settings and balance. I can’t say I’ve tested fully the battery length but to me it’s optimistic as with the RIG set I could lay down and pick them up all week without a recharge. That said the RIG headset is expensive and their mic doesn’t last the test of time. I’ve tried to be fair in my review but to me these fall short so my search for a headset continues.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bad out of the box but don't give up
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 28 April 2021

These sound pretty bad out of the box, in fact they sound worse than headphones that cost a lot less money and I couldn't believe my ears considering the price and the fact they were an official Microsoft branded product. The default sound profile both heavily favours bass and manages to sound completely flat, providing an uninspiring audio experience.

Tweaking the system level equalizer found within the Xbox Accessories app only made them sound marginally better. Getting frustrated I found some information online that you need to tweak both the system level equalizer and the equalizer within the Dolby Access app. After the final calibration they sound great, in particular when listening to discrete 5.1 channel audio material over native Atmos content. Included in the pictures are the settings used.

The audio mix between voice chat and system audio is controlled by rotating the left cup and the overall volume by rotating the right cup, which is very intuitive and wonderful functionality. I do not like the position of the mute button as it is hidden around the back on the left hand side, dangerously close to the sync/power button that is easily hit by accident.

There is also a software issue where sometimes it doesn't sync correctly with the user, leading to team mates not being able to hear you in party chat despite the game audio coming through fine. This is fixed by returning to the Xbox Accessories app, selecting the headset and repairing with your active profile.

This reads like a heavily negative review but the audio is genuinely great once calibrated correctly and is comfortable enough for long gaming sessions.

I updated immediately and the sound was superb. However, people listening said I sounded like I was muffled and my cheap mic that I'd used previously sounded much better.

Update: on the 2nd day party members said the sound was much better. Possibly restart after updating headset? Either way. Very impressed and up to 5 stars.

The controls are superb and easy to adjust. Being true wireless and being able to connect to my phone at the same time is a great feature.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing sound quality, even at high volume

Really excellent quality kit. Nice and loud with crystal clear sound both with speech and audio. Simply and highly effective controls, with two huge twist dials on either side , one for volume and one to change the sound of the voices over the game effects. A good quality boom mic with its own isolation button is thrown in for good measure. This mic does not seem to detach but instead folds away neatly around the curve of the headphone. The on off button is hidden behind one side of the head phone cup and has a slight click when you push it accompanied by a sound through the headphones to confirm activation/deactivation. The 'Phones stretch to fit any size head and are VERY comfortable. Bluetooth setup was easy and fast and an update was downloaded the first time I connected them to my Xbox Series X. They are powered by a USB-C to USB connector. Highly recommended if you can spare the £90 for them.

TOP 500 REVIEWERVINE VOICE
5.0 out of 5 stars The headphone to get if you have xbox series x|s or xbox one
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 30 October 2021

I was on the search for a decent pair of headphones for my xbox as I found that connecting a wired headphone to the controller had 3 issues: 1) lack of volume - no matter what headphone I connected it was just barely loud enough in a quiet room, any noise and I missed conversations in cutscenes. 2) battery drain on the controller 3) and the occasional interference in sound

So I decided to invest in something more substantial and I'm glad I did. This headphone connects to your xbox via Xbox wireless protocol which means no dongle just like the controllers. Pairing takes a few seconds and I'm happy to report it solved all 3 issue mentioned straight away.

Yes sound is tuned towards the bass at its default setting it's too bass heavy for me, but this can be remedied easily by going into the xbox accessories app (installed by default) and change the equaliser to movie or music mode. This should be fine for most but feel free to play with custom eq settings if you like. After this the sound was great, with really punchy bass still without distortion or overpowering the mid and high tones. Although distortion was not an issue on the default setting and there is a bass boost mode as well if you want to rattle your skull :) the sorround sound for me is very good and I can't hear any difference when comparing it to my pc gamer headset that is twice as expensive. It's really convincing and I can easily tell the source of the sound. I don't play online games on my xbox so I can't comment on how good this headphone is for competitive online gaming.

The headphone can connect to your pc as well by using type c usb cable, or bluetooth but you don't get all the surround sound goodies that way. A 3rd option is to buy an xbox wireless adapter for your pc which will enable all the features but this is sold separately and it's quite steep at £35. There are 3rd party dongles but the ones I've seen are just bluetooth dongles and got nothing to do with xbox wireless protocol so be careful what you buy. The headphones can connect to your phone too - again via Bluetooth and again you'll loose some of the extra features. Unfortunately unlike with a pc the headphone won't work with the phone with the cable. I tried it on a google pixel, using android 12 and nothing happened other than the headphone starting to charge.

Controls on this headphone has to be the best I tried so far. Super simple and intuitive. On both earcups you have two rotating dials. As in the whole outer part of the earcups rotate. The right side is for volume, and so far I never needed to go over 50% it's got plenty of power. The right side is for adjusting if you want to game or ingame chat volume to be dominant. For example if you're playing a coop title with someone and there is a cutscene and they wouldn't shut up - you can turn the dial to increase the game volume and lower the other gamer's volume. Other than these you will find a usb-c connector under the right earcup for charging and commecting to pc. And on/off button on the left cup, this is not my favourite. It feels a bit cheap and I'm never sure how long to press it for - but the answer is: until the greeting chime comes on. Next to it is the mic mute button. Speaking of microphone - I was a bit worried that the mic can't be detached as I said before I don't play online games so I no need for it. But I'm happy to say that the mic can be tucked away and you wont see a thing, it's not disturbing at all and it doesn't wobble around the top of your head like so many others. The end of the mic houses an LED to visually tell you if your mic is on or not. The brightness of this LED can be customised in the settings and I turned it off altogether so my mic is really invisible.

The build quality is really solid. The cans are covered with faux leather but of the nice quality. The band connecting the two is cushioned as well as the cans with memory foam and I found them to be very very comfortable altough I'm not the person who plays long hours. I worn them for 3 hours though and they were still comfortable whilst my old headphones gave me ear fatigue after about 30 minutes.

Dislikes? Only one minor thing and that comes from convenience. Thanks to the xbox wireless protocol the headphone can turn on your xbox when you turn on your headphone and if you turn off your xbox it turns off your headphone. So far so good. But what if I also want to connect my phone. For that I need to turn on my headphone which in turn turns on my xbox. But I only wanted to connect to my phone...well it's nitpicking really. This headphone is primarily designed for xboxes so I'm not really complaining. Any extra connevtivity is appreciated anyway. It can however connect to your xbox and phone simultaneously so if you're playing and someone calls you you can answer and have a conversation through the boom mic without stopping the game. Neat! There is an option in the settings to automatically lower the game volume should you wish to enable it.

I do think this is one of the best xbox headphones out there and is a must for xbox gamers. I didn't find any major issues with the product that would be off putting but if your budget doesn't allow you to buy this one, there is a wired version for almost half the price straight from Microsoft again without some of the most advanced features. Highly recommended!

At the time of writing, Once connected to the xbox you will be asked to update the firmware straight away.
Lots of features. Nice and comfy with big cushions. Some may need to stretch it over the box for a few hours or overnight if they feel it's too tight, but I didn't have that problem.
The sound is good although bass heavy, but tweaking the equaliser settings in the accessories app on the Xbox can reduce this.

Although there is Mic monitoring /sidetone adjustment, I couldn't notice it doing anything at all. Perhaps another firmware update will correct this.

The mic quality is good, but nowhere near as good as the mic on the 2019 Astro A40 TR headset I have, and was noticed by people on my friends list.

It does a good job of blocking out background noise, with the noise cancellation working instantly turning off when stopping talking and turning straight back on when starting to talk, without missing out a single letter from the sentence initial word.
You get a Dolby Atmos for a few months trial, and the sound was very good using Dolby Atmos, or Windows Sonic.

I didn't connected it via bluetooth, so cannot comment on the use for music.

OK so the Xbox Wireless Headset for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Windows 10 Devices was cheaper compared to other Gaming Headsets but I have an Xbox and thought it made sense to have an Xbox headset.

There is a big dial on each earcup the same diameter as the earcup so it is really easy to either adjust volume or mute the mic without having to fumble around to find a small switch or volume dial thanks to the big earcup dials. The sound quality of the headset is also very good and provides, on the left earcup, a means to vary the volume between the game music and effects volume and chat with other players.

The ONLY issue I have, but to me it is a big issue, is the lack of, or rather the ineffectiveness of the mic monitoring. Gamers will understand the need to be able to hear your own voice through the earcups to avoid inadvertently speaking too loudly whilst playing a game late at night or at other times when other people are trying to have a quiet conversation or some quiet time. Mic monitoring does exist with the headset but for a reason I do not understand, I just cannot hear my own voice unless I cup both my hands over the microphone AND my mouth at the same time.

This is not just me , it is all over the internet and even more annoying is the unwillingness of Microsoft to even acknowledge the issue despite hundreds of website discussions about this very issue.

On this basis I give the very low score of two stars. I wish I had never purchased them and instead spent double that on a set of earphones WITH mic monitoring that works. Everything else would be at least four stars but as I said, for me, mic monitoring is important.
