This is the first official Amazon cover I've had since the original Paperwhite one, as I wasn't keen on the Origami covers for the Voyage I've been using since then, so went for a 3rd party option that time. I previously always went for the leather Amazon covers, but having read the reviews for the current leather ones I decided to give the fabric version a go instead - the fact that it's water safe was also a factor since I intend to make use of the new Kindle being water resistant.

I got the Lavender option, and really wasn't sure what the colour would be like - on the LCD screen of my laptop it looked like a lovely violet shade, on the OLED screens of my phone and tablet it looked a not so appealing pink! The reality is somewhere in between the two, but probably closer to how it looked on the OLEDs - it's definitely more pink toned than purple, but at the same time there is a distinct purple hue off it in certain lights. 'Heather' is the description that immediately came to mind for me when I first saw it. It's also much paler than it looked in the photos, which for me is actually a good thing given the pinkish colour. The denim type fabric has lighter and darker 'threads' in it when you look closely, which gives the colour an almost chalky appearance which I like.

That denim style outer fabric is really quite rough to the touch (so should hopefully be hard wearing), but the interior of the front flap - which is what I'm holding since I read with it flipped right back - has a lovely suede-like feel to it. When you do flip the front cover round to the back, it attaches there magnetically so it won't flap about if you're holding the Kindle with your left hand, which is a nice bonus. The back of the case, where the Kindle slots in, is open at the top and bottom, so the device is only gripped along the long sides. I actually quite like the symmetrical, minimalist look that gives it rather than having bits cut out for the charging port etc, but it's something to be aware of if you prefer to have all four sides of the Kindle covered for added protection.

The one real issue I had initially is that the bottom edge of the back part of the cover is really thin and hard, to the extent it was causing considerable discomfort and leaving indents in my fingers when I held the Kindle with a couple of them curled under for it to rest on. I've now changed the way I hold the Kindle so that it's the broader, rounded corner section against my hand rather than the sharp bottom edge, which is much more comfortable.

1.0 out of 5 starsReally awful fabric material!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 29 November 2021
I couldn't even bear to touch this awful fabric material that seemed to catch on my fingerprints as it moved across the surface. I am so disappointed with this kindle product since the leather cover that I bought with my kindle keyboard 3rd generation was such a good product. I just hope Kindle redeem themselves soon by bringing out a decent quality case to go with their latest Kindle. I put on gloves and immediately repackaged this case and returned it!

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent fabric case, cut outs on holder tray are rather large
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 29 October 2021
Colour Name: BlackVerified Purchase
This cover is fabric-coated at the front, and has a plastic tray that acts as a holder for the device at the back. The fabric coating is continued into an inset panel in the reverse of the tray.

The tray fits the Kindle snuggly. The device holder has cut outs running right the way along the top and bottom edges of the device. This means that the power button and charging port on the bottom edge of the device are always accessible – but the extent of the cut-outs leaves quite a lot of the device exposed. The tray could have covered a lot more of the device and offered better protection.

The fabric is quite a thick-feeling, textured canvas-style fabric. It’s black, but not uniform in colour and has a slight sheen to it. The texturing does help to make this anti-slip. Around the edges of the front cover the fabric is sealed with a sort of rubbery coating – and if this behaves like the seal on previous generations of Kindle cases I have owned, over time will start to peel off.

The cover folds over easily for one-handed reading, if this is how you like to hold your device, but doesn’t feel floppy if you prefer to hold this opened outwards book-like. The front cover isn’t padded, but has a soft-textured, light grey microfibre lining to help protect the device's screen. Auto wake works as it should.

For me, this seems a little on the expensive side for the build quality and level of protection offered.

I have tried two third party cases but both very poor quality and returned. The Amazon one is massively overpriced for what it is. Of average quality but perhaps the unworthy winner of best Kindle case 2021.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not nice to hold
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 1 November 2021

It looked good, the kindle snapped into it easily, but it was extremely uncomfortable in the hands when reading. I'm afraid I resurrected my old (2008) leather cover from the rubbish bin, wiped it off and inserted the new kindle, which is not a perfect fit, being slightly larger, but grips the thing well top and bottom on the outside edge and is enough to hold it firmly. I also found the fact that the new cover switched the machine on itself when opened irritating, but that's a mere quibble.

5.0 out of 5 stars This fabric cover case is a comfortable, well made case for the kindle paperwhite 11th edition.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 23 February 2022
Colour Name: BlackVerified Purchase
I had an Amazon leather case for my previous kindle but decided to go for this cloth version for my new kindle paperwhite (11th edition) as it was £10 cheaper than Amazon's leather version. I must say I am not disappointed with my decision.
I have bought the dark grey version and it seems well made and even though I have not had it very long. It is not yet showing any signs of wear or tear (or fingerprints from where it is being held!). The magnet on it that shuts your kindle off when the case is closed is very strong. If you bend the front of the case back to read your kindle (rather than holding the front cover open like the cover of a book) then the magnet will also secure the front flap of the case to the back, although personally I find this less comfortable as it makes it more bulky to hold in one hand, and you are very aware that you are holding the plastic tray if you hold the kindle in your right hand. If you hold the kindle however in your left hand then this makes for a more comfortable experience as you will be holding the smooth fabric interior on the cover which is softer than the plastic tray in which the kindle sits. As I tend to hold the kindle in my right hand, I find holding it with my right hand index finger wedged between the front and back cover to prevent it closing completely the most comfortable position.
The kindle itself sits in a plastic tray which grips it firmly down both sides of the kindle and partially covers each of the corners, leaving the top and bottom of the kindle 'unprotected' as it were. However, this uncovered area makes it easy to charge the kindle using the cable provided with the case either open or closed.
While I haven't yet dropped my kindle I have a feeling this case will be strong enough to protect it should such a calamity occur. As I don't read my kindle in the bath or shower or use it when boating, I cannot comment on its ability to protect your kindle if immersed in water (and I have no plans to put this to the test).
So overall, I think this case is well made and represents good value for money. Whether or not one likes the strength of the magnet and the feel of cloth is no doubt down to personal taste but I find this case more comfortable than the Amazon leather case I had bought for my previous kindle.

4.0 out of 5 stars Looks stylish.

A stylish addition to the new Paperwhite. It fits well, particularly the magnetic cover which switches off the Kindle and tucks neatly being the Kindle while you are reading with a satisfying magnetic snap.
I confess I found the cover a bit hard, almost metallic, when I first got it but I soon got over that. In general it's a good case which should provide excellent protection for the life of the Kindle.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this cover
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 27 January 2022
Colour Name: Lavender HazeVerified Purchase
I originally ordered the lavender cover as it was the only one I could get immediately so I could protect my new kindle purchase. I really liked the cover itself but I decided the bright colour wasn't for me (not subtle enough if I am trying to read surreptitiously) so have swapped for the denim blue version which I absolutely love and was worth the wait. I like both the look and feel of the outside texture and the inner cover has a nice moleskin type texture, which feels nice and protects the screen when closed. I like the way the cover magnets to the back when it is open. Overall the cover is not as substantial and premium feeling as my original leather cover but I feel it is as good if not better than any other covers presently on the market for the 11th generation kindle. It is true that this cover only protects the very corners of the kindle but for me that is sufficient as I am not in the habit of dropping my kindle. An added bonus is the cover is waterproof, as yet untested but an obvious necessity for a waterproof kindle.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice case
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 10 December 2021

I really like this case and it fits into my handbag better than the old paperwhite case although I liked that one too. It has a very strong magnetic catch which keeps it closed and takes a bit of getting used but it's a very good case and I'm very pleased with it. However, I put it in my locker at work and it was stuck to the bottom with the magnet, it was that strong. To sum up, it’s a nice looking protective case which does what it’s meant to.

4.0 out of 5 stars Better than expected
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 4 July 2022
Colour Name: BlackVerified Purchase
After upgrading to the 11th generation Kindle Paperwhite and discovering when it arrived that it didn't fit into my original leather Kindle case, I planned to buy another 'official' leather case but was put off by poor reviews and the price.
I considered various third-party options but they all seem to have drawbacks of one sort or another, and glowing reviews often came from people who'd been given the product free.
In the end, I reluctantly decided to go for the cheaper of the two 'official' options. I thought at least it would be solid and would fit the Kindle well, and if anything went wrong I could return it easily.
It arrived this morning and is quite a lot better than expected. It feels solid and looks well-made and the fabric, although slightly scratchy, is not at all unpleasant to touch (as one or two other reviews said).
The fabric looks like a fine upholstery tweed with a bit of variation in the threads, so it looks classier in real life than it does in the photos.
I've been reading the Kindle with the cover on for several hours now and find it very comfortable to hold, both with the cover folded behind the book and with it open like a conventional book.
My only quibble (and it's a big one) is the price, which I think is on the high side for a fabric cover, but it does seem to me like the best option currently available.
Out of curiosity, I weighed my 5th generation Kindle Paperwhite in its leather cover and the new 11th generation Kindle in its fabric cover. The new Kindle is lighter.
