I used this device for a few weeks and it works flawlessly, it is worth getting the sync module 2 with it too. Works great with Alexa as you can have it set up to announce on a Alexa device when someone’s at your door. And you can even have any blink mini cameras you might have chime when someone rings it. Looks great, performs great. All in all a recommended doorbell!

Not as good as expected

Really nicely packaged and simple as abc to set up with my blink cameras and Alexa looks nice and works well the big but is as per photos look at the gap between the backing plate and the bell section how will this keep water out in the rain the insides will be flooded out unless I seal with silicone which is not going to be an option at this price I’ll see what Amazon have to say. Found it to be a complicated affair viewing someone at the door when not in firstly get a beep on phone and message someone at door by the time I’ve found the phone pick it up open with facial recognition then open the blink app then open live view on the blink app waited for camera to connect to the doorbell to show who is at the door then press the button to talk nobody’s there so seems a waste of time probably better leaving a note on door saying please wait got to sort phone and blink before answering you sorry I could be a while. Since writing the review blink USA have contacted me and assured me the inner workings are water tight even though the gap is obvious and reassured me that it is under a two year warranty so ample time to prove itself worthy and watertight

Great unit for the money

I have several Blink cameras, floodlights, etc and have been waiting for this doorbell for about the past 6-8 months when it first showed as “coming soon” on Amazon. I have in the past been tempted by the Ring models but they’re just so big and bulky and I really didn’t want to have to use yet another app.

My initial impressions of the Blink doorbell are good. I went for the white model which looks sleek and modern and fits nicely within my front door frame. The base plate has foam backing which keeps it secure against the frame and stops it from rattling and the unit fits securely over this. There is a tiny gap at the bottom but I can’t see any way for water to get into the unit from the top. Time will tell on this but as I’ve fitted it in accordance with the instructions I'm sure Amazon would sort any issues that may occur.

In the meantime, the only downside I see to the Blink doorbell is the lack of a specific chime box. The unit itself does emit a chime when the button is pressed but it isn’t that loud. I can hear my neighbour's Ring from about 50 m away but I really didn’t want that from this doorbell. For those that have existing Echo devices in their home you can set the doorbell to chime/announce through those (ignore the review that says you can’t- you can) and for those that dont, you should get one. I like the flexibility of being able to place the speaker anywhere as we struggle to hear people at the door from upstairs or outside, and the speakers have other functions you can use so for £30 are not a bad investment.

Overall I’m really happy with this doorbell so far. Functionality is as expected of any Blink device. The camera image is good quality and it works as I’d hoped- you can use it just as a doorbell (it’ll record video after it’s pressed) or have it detect motion as the other Blink cameras do. You don’t need to have the camera system active for it to record video when pressed- it does this regardless, meaning you can easily connect it to the same sync module without having to have your camera system active all day.

All in all a useful addition to my Blink devices

Where do I start?! There's a reason this is £50. Cheap packaging. Cheap feel to the product. The cellophane does not come off in one and has left residue all over the product. I'd have to spend a bit of time getting this off. The gap mentioned on the previous review is valid. Look at the gap. Rain is getting in there EVERYTIME. It's not watertight and for a outdoor doorbell this simply isn't good enough. I have not even bothered to even turn the thing on but I've seen enough. I shall be sticking with Ring for sure. Shame.

Alexa & Sonos chimes from a doorbell 👍🏻

I’ve been looking for a doorbell that would chime via Alexa / Alexa enabled Sonos speakers for sometime.

I wasn’t particularly interested in the camera feature, but this seems to be the main direction manufacturers are going.

Whilst unpacking, the clear protective wrap left a glue residue on the camera, but it rubbed off very easily.

The set up was straight forward, creating & linking Blink & Alexa accounts, & syncing the sync module 2.

In the app you can select which echo / Alexa speakers / devices are to be alerted, so we can prevent the kids bedroom speakers being used, and choose which chime etc (although the chimes are limited)

You can’t see / select Sonos speakers within the app, like you can the echo dots, shows, etc, but you can however, setup Alexa routines to accomplish this.

The routine setup is pretty straight forward:
When: <doorbell name> is pressed
Alexa will: play <sound name>
Alexa will: say <there’s someone at the door>
From: <name of Sonos alexa enabled speaker>

You can also setup routines for when a doorbell or camera detects motion.

I have the camera set up to record on doorbell press & motion detection, this results in high levels of notifications via the app, the only way to clear these, is to either watch them, or completely delete them.
You can’t seem to ‘select all’ and ‘mark as seen’
This is a nuisance, as there can be 20-30 a day.
Hopefully this can be tweaked with a software update.

I don’t like the fact you have to subscribe to the cloud service for full functionality, and the fact that if you use a usb storage device in the sync module, it gives limited recording service compared to the cloud.
If it gave the same recording abilities, for either storage option, it would be more appealing.

Can’t comment on battery life at present, but I may try hard wiring with a transformer, if I get anything less than a year out of batteries.

Time will tell but so far it’s working well.

Edit: now attached copies of routines creators to activate:
Sonos: door chime / announcement
Show: start front door video
Show: stop front door video (I found that it would stay on video until you physically stopped it.)

If you use it without wiring, in the wireless version you can’t watch the footage on demand, like in live action which is annoying

Unusable out of the box

The rear doesn't fit tight to the front due to a lack of gasket. Any rain falling on top of the device seeps straight into the body. Only solution was to use some silicone sealant around the edges, and strip that back each time I want to change the batteries.

Contacted Blink support but no response yet as to why the design is different to the US.

Of course if your doorbell isn't going to get rain on it then it's actually a good device, but for the rest of us this is useless out of the box.

There's no documentation for the UK on Blink doorbells working with our 8V typical chime setups (Amazon won't offer compatible options either like their competitors do).

I'll list it out here for anyone wanting to keep using a mechanical (ding dong) chime when their Blink doorbell is pressed.

Purchased everything from Screwfix (as you need a transformer greater than the typical 8V installed - 16V is Blink's minimum but I set this to 12V which a multimeter shows an output just under 16V).

Transformer: British General Fortress 8-24V AC 8VA Bell Transformer Module (8707P) - £8.95
Transformer case: Wylex NH IP40 2-Module Unpopulated DIN Enclosure (32311) - £3.55
Chime box: Byron Battery-Powered Bell Push Kit White (273HF) - £8.24 (note this won't be battery-powered and will be wired in).

The wiring diagram you will need to get it working with Blink is attached.

This product so could have been a five star product!

I had spent a while (a long while) waiting for this camera so I could add it my XT2 system and I spent time on the Amazon.com site reading the reviews on it and one thing was common was how difficult it was to attach the doorbell to the mount with all the lugs it had on the US version but I was very surprised to see just the latch/catch at the top and the little grey locking clasp at the bottom I had actually thought it was a faulty unit but from reading reviews here it seems the UK version Blink has just skipped the lugs to forego the US issue ?!

Out of the box setting it up via the Blink was easy mode - add Blink video doorbell - point my iPad at the back of the unit - let it do it’s thing and it was installed.
It is using the module from my original purchase of XT2 cameras so I’ve got “legacy” storage and I haven’t bothered to use the module 2 I purchased along with the doorbell, as it connected first time and I can see the camera view via the app on that system.

Installation outside was simple enough but as also mentioned the fixing screws were/are poor like “pot-metal” so after using some decent ones the unit was fitted but it was very loose and a gap around the mount/unit as mentioned in other reviews, my wife was happy enough but I wasn’t but I sorted a fix later (see below).

On the button press nothing happened in the house with any of the Echo Dot’s nor the Echo Show 5 (I had bought along with the doorbell) but there was a notification on my wife’s phone of the doorbell activating (she has blink app notifications turned on). I then added the doorbell to the Alexa app where my echo’s where set up and that was all it needed to get the dot’s & show 5 to start announcing there was someone at the doorbell and it also allowed us to view the camera via the echo show.

The last few days the gap/loose fitting was really starting to grate on my OCD, so I decided to fix the issue - I cut a bit of rubber off an old bicycle inner tube and made a casket (see image above/below) and that’s sorted the issue of any movement or water ingress, as the unit was still dry inside after some “fake” rain was dropped over the unit.

BLINK = fix the locking/lug issue and make it a little more secure and make a seal/gasket as standard and send fixes to first adopters “FOC” and you’ll then get your fifth star.
