How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings, help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

5.0 out of 5 starsThe Best ring to get! Plus Pre Roll. You DONT have to have existing chime
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 21 May 2021
If you do some research as I did, there are many YouTube videos that compare Ring doorbells and The Ring Wired comes out as the best and most economical version.
I did NOT have an existing bell, so I had to buy a adapter from Amazon as well, so i could plug bell into mains socket. The mains socket does not need to be near to the bell, mine is about 6 metres away and the adapter cable is so thin, you cant notice it, its not liking having an extension lead running around your house!
You also dont need to by or already have an exsiting chime. It connects to your phone, so if you can hear your phone, you can hear the doorbell. It also connects to an Alexa if you really want to hear the Bell ring indoors.
You also get PRE ROLL something that's not in the blurb but you get 3 seconds before action starts. VERY useful and only advertised on ring Pro versions.

It uses a 'Fisheye' lens so, the field of view is much more than needed, i can see over the roof of house opposite as well as the ground by my front door. Its wide enough to cover neighbour's driveway either side of as well.

Video quality is excellent, its 1080p which is HD so its going to be.
Motion sensor works perfectly
Night vision is also very good.
Two way talk works very well, no complaints there either
installed in about 10-15 mins (And Im not a DIY person!) just 2 screws in wall.
If fact i have no complaints at all, why would anyone spend 200 quid on a doorbell when this does almost as much for 50! After all, its just a doorbell!
If anyone told you 10 years ago, one day you would spend 50 quid on a doorbell, you would have laughed at how ridiculous that sounded. And yet here you are.........

Just buy, job done

4.0 out of 5 stars Easy to install, works well

Before buying this product, take a look at the installation instructions on ring.com/hardwired then click on the link further down the page for the wired doorbell to learn how to install it.
If those instructions look straightforward enough to you, then installation should be a breeze. More importantly, the instructions will tell you whether you will need to spend an extra £20 on a transformer. If your chime looks like mine in the attached image, then you are fine without a transformer and you can see what I've done with the jumper cable.
As I said, installation is easy enough. The app will guide you through the procedures step-by-step, although the screws in the app look different to the screws supplied (the online instructions are better). The existing cables for my doorbell were a little short, so installing the doorbell was fiddly but these could have been extended if needed. Installation and setup really didn't take long at all.
The app itself is... okay. Not great, not terrible. It took a little playing around to get comfortable with it, but it is reasonably intuitive. Click on the history and it will give you a list of notifications, then you can click on them to watch the recorded video. Otherwise, click on the most recent image and it will bring up a timeline you can scroll through.
I have set the doorbell to ring via my alexa devices in the house. This needs to be done via the Alexa app. You need to switch on 'doorbell press announcements' in the Alexa app for this to work (seemed to take me a couple of tries to figure that out).
I can ask my firestick to 'show me the front door' and, after an uncomfortable pause, it gives me a really clear view on the TV. It tells me I can press the microphone button on the remote to speak through the doorbell, but that doesn't seem to work for me. There is less of a pause if I connect via my phone. If I say to one of my echo dots 'speak to the front door' it connects really quickly and I can have a clear two-way audio conversation. This works really well.
You can invite other users to have access to this bell. It will send them an email and setup instructions. They just need to be able to follow the instructions. My son didn't quite follow the instructions and did things slightly out of order, and it was a pain to figure out why it wasn't working. We just needed to go back and follow the instructions exactly.
Honestly, the audio and video quality is very good. I absolutely don't regret this purchase. At the price, it is really competitive.

Not sure why anyone would think it would be hard wired to the internet and not WiFi when it clearly states that it works with WiFi. Looks neat and I’m definitely considering a purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy install, simple setup, works great!

I've been holding out for the hardwired version of the ring doorbell for ages, and i'm glad I waited.

Installation was very easy. Simply connect the included jumper cable to bypass the existing chime and fit the two wires of your existing bell to the Ring. Anyone with basic DIY skills can do it.

I had to do a little re-wiring due to there not being enough cable length after removing my old bell but thats just due to sloppy builders!

Setup is straight forward via the Ring app. Similar to setting up an Alexa device.
I created a dedicated 2.4GHz wifi network on my router just for the Ring bell and the Chime to give them the best chance of a strong signal. Wifi signal to the bell is a little weak based on my house setup but there's enough there to keep it active.

The plugin Chime is fairly inconspicuous and loud enough to be heard throughout the house.

Overall, very happy with it.

5.0 out of 5 stars It Works, and no battery to worry about
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 20 May 2021

I purchased this to replace the existing Deta doorbell in my home. As it says in the description, I had to also buy a transformer (https://smile.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B08MVVQX28/), as the Deta would only give short bursts of power. I was able to re-use the wiring already in place to the bell push, and wire in the transformer in place of the chime.
The Ring mobile app was straight forward to setup, and there is a helpful step-by-step guide when fitting the device. If you want motion alterts, you can setup custom detection areas so that (in my case) passing vehicles don't set it off. Extra to that you can also enable Face detion, so only humans should activate a motion alert.
If you have any Alexa device, it was also easy to link the Ring account with amazon. I have a Gen2 Echo Dot, Spot and regular echo, which all chime (multiple options on sound) on the doorbell press, and the video feed is almost instant on the Echo Spot.
It was easy to fit, and I would recommend it to anyone who doesn't want to keep replacing batteries on their wireless doorbell.

4.0 out of 5 stars So far so good

I had an old friedland 107 wired chime and as soon as this came on the market i snapped it up. The transformer was hidden in the wall but i assumed it was the correct rating. Installation was quite straight forward, you need to remove the 0F and T3 connections and use the supplied connector to join them essentially bypassing the old chime and creating a connection between the transformer and the ring unit. Connecting the doorbell was a bit tricky as the cables were a bit short. You then need to setup a ring account online to complete the setup. Your phone will notify you when motion is detected and when someone pushes the button. The video quality is HD and it has the fish eye effect. The app allows you to talk to the person outside. You can also add family members to share the device so their phones get notified as well. In addition you add the device to alexa so it notifies you as well so i dont think the additional chime from ring is necessary. Alexa also lets you talk through the ring device. Im impressed so far but i will need to update this review after a months usage.

1.0 out of 5 stars Good concept, poorly executed, lessons still not learnt
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 16 June 2021
Style Name: HardwiredConfiguration: Doorbell onlyVerified Purchase
Bought this for my sister, kind of a niche product as she has a wired doorbell already.
As an electrician I fitted it for her, I already have my own Ring Doorbell 2 which is pitifully awful at WiFi, and this device being two evolutions better is... exactly the same.
My Ring 2 has a pro chime behind the door but still says it's poor signal it's unusable really with you having to give it "hello mate yeah sorry can you hear me...yeah leave it.. hey mate yo! Hello can you... FFS!" Then they walk away.
This sadly is as bad, Ring are truly awful at WiFi. I can use my phone easily three doors away from my router but this doorbell says it's bad, no not bad so terrible it disconnects all the time.
Perhaps it's a ruse to get you to buy the pro chime? But the router is in a room adjacent to the plastic and glass door but still it may as well be at the end of the garden as it's useless.
You can sign up to the ring ecosystem if you like but if you use WiFi forget it.
Installation was easy enough by pass the bell and smash it directly onto the transformer, the old bell used a 15vac supply which is perfect as it needs 8-24vac to run.
It's a shame Ring still need some WiFi engineers, the concept is perfect.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic addition to the house!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 9 July 2021

I've wanted a Ring doorbell for some time but it's always seemed a little pricey, all that changed with this sub £50 bad boy. It's awesome in every way. If you're like me and you have a fairly new house with a mains powered doorbell you're in for a treat.

The instructions say it really requires 24v AV which is weird power in the UK, doorbells are usually 6 - 12v DC. What's not made so clear is that it can also work reliably on 24v DC (I'm told on less it's not) and in fact if you look at the official plug in Ring mains adaptor, that's what it provides.

I did a lot of research and found https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07CW32SQ8 which is a 24v LED driver, I checked the specs on current and dimensions. I was able to quickly and neatly remove, without damaging, the existing transformer and replace with the LED driver.

Looks neat, costs less than a tenner and provided a quick and simple solution. Been running for weeks now without fault, no heat and looks the business using 3m double sided pads to stick in place.
