We have an 86 year old that lives alone and is getting more fragile. Refuses to wear an alarm in case of emergencies. So we bought her this . She can call us from anywhere in her bungalow and Alexa hears her. Plus she gets to see us on the large screen.. it’s brilliant and gives us all the piece of mind that she is safer.

As is usual for 'latest generation' stuff, a bit over priced, but works well and does the job of helping my 94-year-old mum feel safer, as I can call her on it when i have to go out... and she only has to talk back to it as if I am there...
Very handy for those with slight dementia problems!
I'm glad I purchased this 'little helper'...

The Show was set up to my account and joined my network without my assistance. Thereafter it was all downhill. It was not as intuitive as I had hoped so I did not explore it in detail before returning it. However much more important even than usability is where you will put it.
The screen is small in relation to handheld devices like a phone or a Fire as you will not expect to view it from a couple of feet. Then it takes up a fair amount of real estate unlike a Fire or an Echo Dot. You could use it in a kitchen for recipes but it is fabric covered and not going to be easy to clean. Also unlike a similar size Kindle Fire it is not portable.
It is a neat bit of kit, probably easy to use, but you really need to know why you want it, how you would use it, and where you would put it.

My mate had one of these in his kitchen, and I was wooed by the screen and the fact he was playing Radio 5 live sports on it. Light bulb moment, Christmas present for the wife.....get in, on offer today's deals, get in again!

Well to start with, I'm not a great fan of Alexa, so probably not the best device to purchase. However, I find Alexa on the Echo Show, has not got a flipping clue what I'm asking for. Too much irrelevant product placement and totally irrelevant links to things that have no connection to what I have originally asked.

I like my music and was expecting a device that cost around £100, to have a reasonable quality of sound, not so. I cannot overstate the absolute really dismal quality of sound, there is simply no differentiation between bass, mid and high end, it is simply all mashed together. While there are some nice features such as subtitles if you are interested in doing Karaoke in the kitchen while you cook your pasta, I would prefer a bit more higher end sound technology.

OK lets cut to the chase, if you are an Alexa fan, want to control your light bulbs, door bell and teas-maid, partner, cat or dog, through verbal commands then this is your bit of kit. If you are looking for something which you can load your own apps on, has reasonable quality audio and visual, then save your hard earned cash.

I feel this is a slightly over-hyped and fairly pointless bit of kit. Go out and walk the dog or even talk to your partner.....far more rewarding. If you would like to mine, you can have it for a tenner.

The good
Works with Ring doorbell and lets you know about Amazon deliveries/returns. Plays Radio, Spotify, Amazon movies and BBC Iplayer via Silk browser. Good speaker quality. Works with home automation. Flash briefings for news are great as are the football scores. Facility to block the camera and mute mic is good as there are very serious privacy concerns.

Not so good
Seems like a work in progress, which needs much more development. Icons are very large. Screen resolution could be much higher even though it has been updated on this version. Why are Iplayer, Disney and Now TV not available in video home? The magnetic stand is seriously overpriced and must be bought separately.
Overall - Worth having but only when heavily discounted. I can see the potential for improvement as more services become available, but needs work.

This has replaced a dab radio and seems very adaptable however it seems to loose WiFi from time to time even though signal is good and has to be asked to reconnect(, not automatic reconnection) which is annoying.
Not certain if this is a fault with the echo or an Internet problem.
Tone, volume, clarity excellent for such a small screen and live call up to family great.
Will revalue once we get more used to it.
Bought a stand that is useful but overpriced in my opinion.
