1.0 out of 5 starsWhen is Accidental Damage NOT Accidental Damage?
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 12 April 2021
My wife changed a SIM in an iPhone wireless charging case i had bought for her. She had difficulty removing the case, and in doing so accidentally damaged the connector internal to the case, and that I believed was insured for Accidental damage for two years by this policy.
However, Assurant (for London General the insurer here) have denied compensation because the small print says, they advise :
Please refer to our Terms and Conditions, page 2, Section What you are not covered for:
"Damage or breakdown as a result of improper use or not taking reasonable care of your product. We expect that you will take care of your product, if you don't, then we may decline your claim.
Taking care of your product means -
• Following manufacturer instructions on the use of your product"
In view of the above, we would not be able to accept your claim, as the manufacturer's guidelines were not respected.
So despite the headline descriptor for this insurance being
2-YEAR ACCIDENTAL DAMAGE INSURANCE
if somebody does ACCIDENTALY something the insurer feels is unreasonable, then they deem the policy voided.
That said they have refunded about half of the two year policy for about two months of cover i thought we had..
I'm disappointed that Amazon AUTOMATICALLY offer such insurance on the purchase of various items now., and would complain to them also if they didn't make this so difficult as to not be worth the effort.
But I, for one, 'won't get fooled again'...
