How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings, help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.

4.0 out of 5 starsGreat series but a massive thumbs down to the Netflix logo on every single book.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 13 May 2021
Excellent books it's just a shame the cover is ruined on every book with "Netflix" plastered on the cover. Seriously why do this to fans of the series? We get it the books are adapted to a TV show. Some of us don't care about Netflix though and just wanted to read amazing stories without having advertisements forced on us.

What should have been a beautiful collection, completely and utterly ruined by a big, red 'NOW ON NETFLIX' sticker. Oh wait! It's not a sticker! It's literally part of the cover art! WHO thought this was good idea?!

3.0 out of 5 stars Beware the permanent advertisement
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 30 September 2020

The books are like any other paperback with no obvious misprints or defects.
The cover however does have a fairly large red Netflix ad stuck to the front of it. It is not removable. Both on the box and on each individual book.
Rather a shame when I bought the box set specifically to avoid any advertisement on the cover.

3.0 out of 5 stars Presentation ruined by Netflix advertising on every cover!!

I would have given it 5 stars if it weren't for the stupid Netflix advertising that can't be removed! It wouldn't be as bad if it was just on the box (still not great), but they had to put it on every single book too! It pretty much ruins the presentation in my eyes.

3.0 out of 5 stars 'Netflix Edition' and don't you forget it
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 27 October 2021

I absolutely love this series of books, but unfortunately, there is no way to get a copy of these at the moment (unless you really want to hunt around and pay through the nose) without the 'Netflix Edition' book covers. The covers themselves are quite nice apart from the hideous marketing printed onto the cover in a big red circle. And it's not just a sticker, it is physically printed ONTO the cover. All of them. Even the case it comes in.

I can look past the egregious marketing practices for the content inside of the books, but if you really can't stand the cover and have access to a decent printer, the to scale artwork is available online for all of the books included and they come without the advertisement. I found this via a post on reddit.

Overall print quality is fine. Mine arrived undamaged in a neat box which houses all of the books. I'm knocking off two stars for that horrible red thing everyone hates. The stories themselves are well worth a read. I'd advise getting a different style of book if you are really worried about the overall appearance of the covers, but it's going to be hard with Netflix having a stranglehold over the series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dented with ugly "sticker" on the front of each book

It came wrapped in plastic so I knew it hasn't been opened before and all the books were perfect but the box was dented in the bottom right corner which was disappointing. Plus, all the books have a red circle on the front advertising the Netflix show which I hate. It's not even a removable sticker, just part of the front cover.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great storytelling and real consequences without losing any of the flair of fantasy writing
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 24 August 2019

Great stories, the first few books are a collection of short stories which acclimate you to the world and it's characters, then they go into a saga of events. Great moral dilemmas and grey twists on familiar stories and themes. If you want realistic fantasy without losing any of the cool stuff that other fantasy stories tell, get these!!

5.0 out of 5 stars What A find!

I never saw the game, just noticed the book, "The Last Wish". Short stories that introduce the characters. If you like heroic fantasy, you will certainly enjoy this series. Absorbing story and easy to read, I went from book to book very quickly!
Can't wait for the Netflix series. If this is true to the story may well be another GOT.

2.0 out of 5 stars Unimpressive ebook
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 21 February 2022

I feel really annoyed that on Kindle each book is listed as a chapter. I can see how much progress I've made over the entire set of books and how much time is left in a given book. What I can't see is how long I've got left in a particular chapter which I've realised I do particularly like as I like to stop reading at the end of a chapter and not mid-way. Having the time left in chapter makes judgement calls easier.

Amazon sort it out!

4.0 out of 5 stars Yet another gem to treasure

I brought this boxed set nearly a year ago, and have reviewed each of the books in turn during the intervening months. I bring those reviews to a conclusion with this, the final episode of Geralt's adventures.
The Season of Storms is the 8th overall adventure in the Witcher series and – to keep things in context – is set between the events of the first book, The Last Wish, and the one I reviewed last week, The Lady of the Lake. (So, this is before he meets Ciri)
The best way to think of it is as an interquel, because it helps us flesh out the substance of the lands through which Geralt travels, as well as giving us a greater insight as to how – and why – his mind works the way it does. Very clever. Because although our favorite witcher is an out and out killer, something of a dark knight resides within him. He has standards. A personal code of ethics to which he restricts his activities while performing the tasks he is hired for.
And this, despite the fact that most people despise him; that the guild of sorcerers look on him as a joke; and brigands constantly want to test themselves against him.
The poor guy never seems to get a break. As is exemplified by his visit to the city of Kerack. He is wrongly arrested; his swords are stolen; he is mysteriously exonerated and sent on a mission to assist the sorcerers at Rissberg; he is double/triple and goodness-knows what else crossed. Only to find its all been a ruse to force his assistance in deeper/greater matters.
(What they are, you’ll discover for yourself as this wickedly deceitful tale unravels).
Personally, I thought it was a breath of fresh air. Few authors take the time to help you really get to know their main characters and their history, but Sapkowski does just that in a basic straightforward way that helps you relate to Geralt’s plight on a personal level. And of course, it does so on a stage of high fantasy, political intrigue, revenge, and good old-fashioned set-tos that are immensely satisfying . . . especially with the Easter Egg you get right at the end. See if you can spot what it means 
Another gem to store away in your collection.
