Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings, help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

There are very few products that have changed my life as much as this product.

Over the lockdown period, I began suffering extreme eye pain. I put it down to old lenses and I thought it was eye strain. I could not get to see a doctor, nor an optician. I thought I would need new glasses, as I suffered from bloodshot eyes and muscle pain. Eventually, after about 8 weeks I was "allowed" a phone call with a medical practitioner (not a doctor) and she suggested I was suffering from dry eye. I was prescribed Evolve solution, Liquid Tears and some other saline type solution. They gave momentary ease but the pain soon came back. When the lockdown was over I went to the optician and they diagnosed extreme dry eye. I had also damaged the surface of the eye from the dryness.

I went back to the doctor (on the phone) and they messed around with different saline solutions but nothing was really working. The original opticians had made a mistake with my new lenses and so I was forced to go to another optician for a second opinion on strengths. After the test, he showed me this product which he was selling at £14 a bottle. He told me that it was the best product on the market for dry eyes. My doctor refused to prescribe it, but they were happy to continue to issue me with 3 different, almost useless products.

The liquid comes in a strange-looking container. Once you get the hang of how to dispense the liquid, it is so easy to use and it really controls the dosing. The first time I put the drops in, my eyes stung like crazy. They went red and offered no solution to the pain. The next day I decided to try again and I applied it four times that day and used 3 drops in each eye. By the night time, there was no pain. By the fourth day, my eyes were back to normal and felt lubricated. I can only presume this liquid coats the eyes in some sort of lubricant, as the effect is amazing. I still put it in my eyes 4 times a day, but there is no pain, I can focus without muscle pain and at night I do not need to apply a night gel. This has truly changed the condition I was suffering from. It has not resolved the cause of the dry eye, but the symptoms and pain have disappeared. It really is amazing.

Highly Recommended.

2.0 out of 5 starsThe box's security seal was open, which means they may not be sterile or perhaps used?
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 10 January 2019
I've used these drops before on the advice of my optician, because they can be used with soft contact lenses. I f them to be long lasting and left my eyes feeling silky smooth if that makes sense. They seem to last much longer than standard eye drops.

I needed some quickly, so went to Amazon. Prime meant I got them next day, but unfortunately, like two other reviewers, the packaging on the bottom of the box was damaged and the security clear tape was broken.

They were despatched in an Amazon letter/book sending style cardboard envelope, so maybe they became squashed in there and perhaps that broke the seal somehow?

However, because there is no seal on the applicator, I have no way of knowing if these have been tampered with or used for three reasons:

1) When I shake the bottle, I can't hear or feel any contents sloshing about - which I could with the one bought from the optician after I'd used it a while (can't remember what it was like when first purchased)

2) It took several pumps to prime the applicator nozzle which to be fair, the Optician did for me previously, so I can't remember if it needs lots of pumps to get it going

3) There is a sticker with a barcode on the side of the box which bizarrely says:
Hycosan Extra
New
Why on earth would anyone sell eye drops that weren't new?

Hence two stars.

I'd welcome some comments from the seller or the manufacturer. In the meantime I am contacting Amazon.

5.0 out of 5 stars I would cry if they stopped production of Hycosan extra

Not sure what the person who called it a carpet lubricant was talking about.. They obviously don't know how to put eyesdrops in properly. Don't know why I'm so offended by the comment lol but these honestly have the best applicator I've ever used so I'm an advocate!!
I've had very bad dry eyes since I was a teenager and it got pretty severe post LASIK, like searing pain waking me up in the middle of the night kind of severe - these eye drops have absolutely changed my life. They blow all other eye drops out the water, I've slowly been able to transition to only needing them once in the morning. They're pricey but well worth it. From one dry eye sufferer to another: Give them a try if you've exhausted too many other options with no luck!

2.0 out of 5 stars Expensive Carpet Lubricant

A delivery system that is quite simply, stupid. If you can get the tiny drop to actually dispense rather than simply hang from the dispenser, and if you can then deliver the tiny drop to the eyeball and not the cheek or eyelash, then this stuff does offer significant relief. In practice, several depressions of the mechanism is required to release the drop, by which time it is more likely to end up on the floor than in your eye. A huge bottle for a small amount of exhorbitantly expensive liquid, most of which is wasted or retained in the container when the non-dispenser no longer dispenses.

5.0 out of 5 stars Much cheaper than exactly the same product from the optician

My optician put me on these drops for my 'dry eyes' problem (constant watering basically) and they really work. What works best of all though is not buying them from the optician who charges a couple of quid more than Amazon. These are 100% genuine as well. Result. Oh, and ignore anyone who says they are impossible to use as they are really easy as long as your fingers work OK.

Best results. Cleared my dry eye instantly. No burning sensation. Tried many other brands without good results. Another positive is the excellent dispenser. One small drop at a time - sufficient. No overflow. Not wasted. So 300 drops will last me at least 90 days - excellent value for my money.

The optician recommended that I use this Hycosan Extra for my dry eyes. As soon as he squirted one drop into each eye it was instant relief. I suffer terribly with dry eyes, they hurt and smart and are really uncomfortable, I must have tried everything on prescription and over the counter stuff too but nothing helped very much except for Hycosan Extra. I couldn't believe how good it was, I did not expect it to do very much at all but I am so glad I took his advice and went ahead and bought it. It is worth every penny. Recommended

1.0 out of 5 stars No better than splashing some water in your face & dreadful (even dangerous) dispenser bottle
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 16 January 2020
Style Name: Hycoscan ExtraSize: 7.5 ml (Pack of 1)Verified Purchase
I have not found this product to have had any significant effect on my eyes - they are just as they were before using it. To be honest, i think just splashing a little cool water in your face and not rubbing your eyes dry with a towel, to be just as effective as this product (and a LOT cheaper). The leaflet included in the product indicates that you can expect around 220 'drops' from each bottle. That means EACH single drop costs around 4p and given that you sometimes need two or more drops per eye (perhaps having ''missed' your target!) that makes this product very expensive indeed!
Also, as others have said, the dispenser bottle is dreadful - it consists of a pointed spout with a tiny 'micro' hole in the top, when you press the bottom of the bottle, the 'plunger' is meant to dispense a single drop. However, sometimes the 'plunger' bottom of the bottle sticks, and as you press it harder, suddenly a small squirt of liquid will shoot out into your eye. But worse than this, the 'plunger' is the bottom part of the bottle, and you have to push it in TOWARDS your eye while holding the pointed end of the spout only centimetres from your pupil!!! If you were to slip or apply too much pressure onto the bottom of the bottle to push in the 'plunger' then I dread to think what might happen. Why oh why cant they just use a simpler (and cheaper) plastic bottle like every other similar product does which you just squeeze the sides of to dispense the fluid!
Also, i note that the bottle does NOT have a plastic security seal which you rip-off to open. Its a simple pull-off/push-on cap with no security seal. The only seal on this product is two bits of 'selloptape' on the cardboard box containing the bottle - so very easy for someone to tamper with or fake!

These eye drops were recommended to me by my optician as they are suitable for dry eyes and contact wearers such as me. They are easy to use and one drop in each eye is sufficient to do the job. My eyes stay moist for quite a while. They have a 6 month shelf life which is good.

Was slightly doubtful in picking these up due to some of the reviews but these are really the best eye drops I’ve used. I suffer from pretty dry eyes when wearing contacts and all I needed to do was put 1 drop after first putting lenses in and 1 drop late afternoon and I was able to wear contacts for 12+ hours
