5.0 out of 5 starsNew Fire TV Lite is a fantastic budget streaming device! Upgrade!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 30 September 2020
I own the previous non-4k model, and this is a much better experience. First off, It's faster than previous fire sticks. No more menu lag. Things are smoother and faster overall. The user interface is snappier and more responsive all around, unlike the older Fire Stick, which does occasionally lag. It's crisp and clear, and intuitive to operate - and set-up is a piece of cake.

If you are wondering whether an elderly or technophobic person can handle the setup process, the answer is yes. The onscreen prompts guide you through everything, and should be easy for anyone to follow, even if don't consider yourself tech savvy. And in terms of the physical hardware, there are only like 2 steps: 1) Connect the Stick to a power source 2) Plug the Stick into any open HDMI port, which you'll find on the back or side of your TV.

Also, If you're wondering if the Fire TV Stick (with TV controls) suits you more. I would say it’s a question of personal preference. The Fire TV Stick Lite version does not support Dolby Atmos audio and the included Alexa Voice Remote Lite does not have power or volume buttons. Personally, the Lite version is fine for me as I have another remote which controls my TV’s volume and power button and I do not have a soundbar. However, I would recommend anyone with different devices connected to their TV such as soundbars to buy the Fire TV Stick (with TV controls) version as this would allow you to control everything all at once, however it is slightly higher in price compared to this one.

Finally If you're wondering whether the Lite version is a gimmick or whether it's worth it, the answer is: it's worth it, because it's as if they ironed out all the little kinks and pain points to get the user to their chosen content as quickly as possible. All the little improvements in terms of the speed/function, and the upgraded Alexa remote with the new “guide” button which takes you straight to your videos makes the Lite version a pleasure to use.
Amazon needs to keep up the good work. This Lite stick is a solid product and an excellent upgrade (for those on a budget) from the previous model. Hope this helps!

3.0 out of 5 starsLike any other Firestick, but with one irritating feature....so far
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 October 2020
All functionality is quick and responsive as you would expect so can't be faulted in that respect.

However, if, like me, you might side load some additional Apps onto your Firestick, which are not linked to your Amazon Account, you might see that the image / icon for the App does not appear in your Apps list and instead you get a "greyed out" box. The App will install and work fine once you open it, but the obvious visual for it is missing on your home screen and My Apps lists and if you have a few of them, you will have to guess which app you are opening. Example pictured.

This Fire TV Lite OS is Version 7.2.2.3, presumably bang up to date, and this does not happen (in my experience) with previous OS on the 4k Stick for example which is version 6.2.7.3.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling and Factory resets but it is still the same. Might this be a "glitch" with the latest OS, Version 7, that needs fixing?

2.0 out of 5 stars Expect to be attached to Amazon and add payment methods just to stream Netflix.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 10 October 2020

There are cheaper non-amazon brands out there and the price is huge for the hard reality that Amazon is just gaining more of your privacy. Product will only work with an amazon account, which you will need to create and it obligates you to add a payment method. In other words you are forced to be attached to amazon if you are just looking to use something like Netflix. Clearly your privacy options are gone once you sign those T&C's.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as my old Fire box and the revised design of the remote is dreadful
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 28 December 2020

I only bought this because I couldn't load Britbox on my older version of Amazon Fire and it is definitely not as good. As others have noted, the handset is almost impossible to get into, so utterly unfit for anyone who may be less-abled or elderly - the old version of the handset was easy to open and I now dread changing the batteries. My other big gripe is that when I leave the firestick on standby it often loses the sound so I keep having to unplug and re-plug it in to get the sound back, which is extremely annoying. I much preferred my old model which never gave me any problems. Please test new versions thoroughly in future before rolling them out to check they can be used easily by all of your customers and that they work as they should! Thanks,

2.0 out of 5 stars No Freeview! Surely a basic nowadays.

Second Firestick for us. For an older HD TV in a room with no access to antenna, but strong Broadband signal available. Good performance on the Apps and basic Amazon offerings, however no access to a Freeview App via Amazon is very disappointing, especially after apparent offering was due some time ago.
Tried loading an Android based Freeview App on the side, from the internet. The App loaded fine, but no way of using it as Firestick does not allow responses to key set-up queries ( eg Postcode entry)
Come on Amazon, surely Freeview ability is a basic nowadays!

2.0 out of 5 stars It’s a right faff, don’t bother
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 21 December 2020

Very hard to navigate with so many different apps and subscription channels convoluting it all.
I pay for prime video and therefore want easy access to the channels that are included and already covered by my membership/subscription payments. Yet when searching for anything I am always directed to pay per view channels such as Starplayz, which I have absolutely no interest in when I already pay a subscription for prime video.
The latest update looks to have tidied things up a little, however I have had to manually reinstate all my user profiles and my child can no longer access his profile at all because “Child profiles are not supported on Fire TV at this time”! Seriously! This is unbelievable! The schools have broken up for the Christmas holidays and my child cannot watch any of his shows or films! Absolutely ridiculous!
The other issue I have is with the remote... When using the function ring to skip back and forth, it is far too easy to accidentally press the Home button instead of the Play/Pause button. This may seem an insignificant design flaw, but when you have accidentally hit it and been taken back to the Home Screen to then have to log back into prime video, select your profile and then hunt for the show you were just watching (because it’s not set out very well at all and there is no clear “continue watching” option) for the twentieth time, it becomes rather infuriating and that is when it gets turned off and I switch back to NowTV.
So if I were you, just get NowTV and don’t bother with all this faff.

2.0 out of 5 stars FAR too unresponsive to be enjoyable. Get the better model.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 13 March 2022

This would be absolutely perfect for those that don't need 4K HDR etc and you'd expect it to at least function CLOSE to the expensive model without those features, guess what? nope. Lags and lags some more. Currently used in a bedroom as an additional streaming device (thankfully not in the living room!) so it's not worth the return, but if pressing the same button over again to get a device to do anything isn't your thing, buy the PRO model.

Shame on you Amazon, you need to solve this via a firmware update and/or make the OS lighter for LIGHT devices. Or just stop selling this, it really is slow.

2.0 out of 5 stars very, very, very slow
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 18 May 2021
Configuration: Device onlyVerified Purchase
I completely regret buying this version instead of the faster 4k one - i bought it to use with my projector - which is only 1080p, so i thought it was a waste of money to spend more on the 4k version.

The 4k version however has a a faster processor - and therefore is maybe more useful than this piece of hot garbage. I have a number of streaming devices, a roku express, a roku 4k streaming stick and this - and this is hands down the worst by a *huge* margin.

I'm only stuck with firesticks as they seem to be the only devices that connect directly to a bluetooth speaker (with audio delay adjustment - that's earned the extra star) which is a necessity for my projector setup.

This thing though requires a reboot *every* time i use it (The home screen is not available is a message i see a lot) and responds to button presses approximately 1-5 seconds after you press them making it an absolutely frustrating chore to use.

Sadly i left in the box too late to send back for a refund, so i may just bin it and buy the 4k version in the vain hope it's actually useable...

2.0 out of 5 stars Just had SECOND fire stick break
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 2 April 2021
Configuration: Device onlyVerified Purchase
Yet again, the Fire Stick has broken. I’ve used ALL Amazon power sources and connectors (they will tell you to use them if yours breaks), streaming fine and suddenly just broke. No real reset despite them giving you rather silly instructions. And now, the second one has broken. Amazon say ‘buy another one’ (cheek of it), I say forget it.

Seriously, when one broke I thought ‘OK, maybe it’s a one-off’ and bought another, but now the second one has broken.

It’s a joke. Yes, I can use the app, but I pay for channels and you can ONLY receive the channels via the stick.

Amazon: Either make a stick which works for a sensible amount of time, of ensure that ALL of the channels are available on the app. This is nuts.

2.0 out of 5 stars If it worked properly it would be great !
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 9 May 2021

Had this for a few months now & am disappointed. Extremely temperamental, streaming quality is not great. I bought it for the Eurosport app as BT no longer have ES. Let me save you the bother, don't ! The Eurosport app is terrible, the streaming quality is at best patchy, often unwatchable. Other apps seem ok so I guess its' not the fire stick. However, having recently bought an Amazon ethernet adapter to try to solve picture quality issues, which at first seem to have made a difference, the Fire stick now has a habit of losing connection & freezing up or switching itself to wifi of it's own accord ! Constant unplugging, restarting, which doesn't work, all in all it's very frustrating. If it worked how you'd expect it would be great but most of the time it doesn't. Even had BT engineer out to check my line, router etc & it's all fine. Other devices connected to the same router have no issues. Maybe i'm just unlucky & have a duff one, maybe the Fire stick lite is not as good as the other models, who knows.

2.0 out of 5 stars Go for the next option with tv controls!

Great value and does the job! However,
After having fire sticks with tv controls it’s such a pain having this one with no TV controls.
I didn’t think I would notice not having them
But being able to just use one firestick remote instead of two controls is so much better and missed with this firestick.
Spend the extra and get a fire stick
With TV controls!

It Loses WiFi connection and refuses to reconnect when not used for a while. You have to reboot the device to get it to see the internet again, which is a poor resolution. It says no internet when all my other devices see the internet just fine.

The onscreen navigation and guide view on pluto TV isn't great either. When the You tube app loads it frequently displays video at much less than the full screen size. very frustrating.
