How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings, help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.

5.0 out of 5 starsNew Fire TV Lite is a fantastic budget streaming device! Upgrade!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 30 September 2020
I own the previous non-4k model, and this is a much better experience. First off, It's faster than previous fire sticks. No more menu lag. Things are smoother and faster overall. The user interface is snappier and more responsive all around, unlike the older Fire Stick, which does occasionally lag. It's crisp and clear, and intuitive to operate - and set-up is a piece of cake.

If you are wondering whether an elderly or technophobic person can handle the setup process, the answer is yes. The onscreen prompts guide you through everything, and should be easy for anyone to follow, even if don't consider yourself tech savvy. And in terms of the physical hardware, there are only like 2 steps: 1) Connect the Stick to a power source 2) Plug the Stick into any open HDMI port, which you'll find on the back or side of your TV.

Also, If you're wondering if the Fire TV Stick (with TV controls) suits you more. I would say it’s a question of personal preference. The Fire TV Stick Lite version does not support Dolby Atmos audio and the included Alexa Voice Remote Lite does not have power or volume buttons. Personally, the Lite version is fine for me as I have another remote which controls my TV’s volume and power button and I do not have a soundbar. However, I would recommend anyone with different devices connected to their TV such as soundbars to buy the Fire TV Stick (with TV controls) version as this would allow you to control everything all at once, however it is slightly higher in price compared to this one.

Finally If you're wondering whether the Lite version is a gimmick or whether it's worth it, the answer is: it's worth it, because it's as if they ironed out all the little kinks and pain points to get the user to their chosen content as quickly as possible. All the little improvements in terms of the speed/function, and the upgraded Alexa remote with the new “guide” button which takes you straight to your videos makes the Lite version a pleasure to use.
Amazon needs to keep up the good work. This Lite stick is a solid product and an excellent upgrade (for those on a budget) from the previous model. Hope this helps!

3.0 out of 5 starsLike any other Firestick, but with one irritating feature....so far
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 October 2020
All functionality is quick and responsive as you would expect so can't be faulted in that respect.

However, if, like me, you might side load some additional Apps onto your Firestick, which are not linked to your Amazon Account, you might see that the image / icon for the App does not appear in your Apps list and instead you get a "greyed out" box. The App will install and work fine once you open it, but the obvious visual for it is missing on your home screen and My Apps lists and if you have a few of them, you will have to guess which app you are opening. Example pictured.

This Fire TV Lite OS is Version 7.2.2.3, presumably bang up to date, and this does not happen (in my experience) with previous OS on the 4k Stick for example which is version 6.2.7.3.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling and Factory resets but it is still the same. Might this be a "glitch" with the latest OS, Version 7, that needs fixing?

1.0 out of 5 stars Useless
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 18 October 2020

Had one and all I got was a bit that says HDMI 1 and that’s it. No trying to load, no amazon. Amazon replaced and second one still the same.
Customer services is useless. Been trying to get them to help me sort it. They said they’d phone but kept saying they couldn’t.
On chat for 2 hours and still no further and gone through 8 different customer service people as they keep changing them through the chat!
So 3 different firestic lites later and they kept saying to replace it. I was speaking to the manager in the end as change in customer service assistants were winding me up. Wasn’t until we were trying to find a solution that I read the small bit on the box that said uk may have issues with it. Never heard that before. Anyway seems certain tv makes aren’t compatible. And my tv isn’t old or a cheap make either. Come to a decision to just refund and I’ll just stick to a normal firestick I already have.

1.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't wake up from sleep.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 14 March 2021

I like many others on the Amazon forums have noticed that the device will not power on from a sleep state without cycling the power switch at the wall. Quite rubbish really that I have to get up and physically switch the adapter off/on again to get it to work. Have tried all the remote buttons even the voice and nothing fixes this. Obviously an issue with the current firesticks, my old one never used to do this but alas that died after a couple of years use. Won't be replacing it nor contacting Amazon support. Naughty Jeff!

1.0 out of 5 stars It does not work very well in fact its pure rubbish

It was on special offer and our old one was starting to play up(probably programmed to do so), so I thought great. Wrong..... it turns off when it wants to, it loses signal with the wifi router at will. When you turn the TV off it will not(the fire stick)turn on again unless you get up unplug it from the power wait 10 seconds then plug it back in again. I tried talking to someone about it but they say my STD code is not recognised so they won't call you. You try the online chat and they are rubbish....more terrible than BT so that is bad. So its going back. The worst thing is the customer service is sooooo bad I feel like leaving prime altogether...why bother selling an awful product...that is your flagship then giving no help whatsoever....astoundingly bad eggs.

1.0 out of 5 stars This does not work
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 22 November 2020
Configuration: Device onlyVerified Purchase
The device significantly falls short of the advertised description of simply plug and play and simple to set up and use. Numerous attempts were made with a superfast broadband connection carefully following all instructions and the device will not go beyond unable to update even after following online support and including factory resets. This device seems to have defective, un useable software.

I bought this because the old remote stopped working and the new version is supposedly more powerful.
Unfortunately the BBC iplayer app is unavailable for download, so it's back to my old fire stick.

1.0 out of 5 stars Frustrated
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 19 November 2020

Less than two weeks after purchase the remote and fire stick stopped communicating. Without being able to manoeuvre the screen it is impossible to go to settings to reinstate the device. Ironically I bought this fire stick to replace an existing one that also did this but was out of warranty. Despite trying everything suggested on forums the fire stick will not re-pair. I would like to contact the seller rather than return or exchange the product but this seems ridiculously complicated on Amazon. Not impressed!

1.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't use straight out the box so ended up costing more
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 1 March 2021

I switched from Apple TV (1st gen) to Amazon Fire Stick as there were new apps, such as BritBox and Disney+, that we couldn't get on Apple TV unless we did AirPlay, which was a bit of a faff (and kept dropping whenever we paused). Only 4th gen Apple TV allows you to add apps, which was £150, so this seemed a cheaper alternative.

However, it wasn't as cheap as I thought! For a start, we needed to buy a longer USB cable, as we use a projector (not a TV) which was too far away from the plug, so for the sake of an extra 10cm, we needed to pay £10 for another cable. Then, to my horror, I found the Amazon Fire Stick has no audio outlet! I guess this is fine if you are using with a TV, but with a projector, you'll need to buy an HDMI Audio splitter, which was another £20.

Once we did get it working (now with loads of cables - ugh) the menu screen is horrible, and it takes several clicks to get to what would be a much more sensible homepage of the various apps. I really don't like this, and wish I'd stuck to the old Apple TV, which - though out of date - was a lot nicer to use, except for having to airplay Disney+. It just doesn't compare to Apple TV device, or even the Now TV stick (which I got FREE with my account, but am no longer subscribing). I suggest Amazon consider giving this stick free to Prime members. Otherwise, wish I hadn't bothered.

There are much better streaming devices out there.
