5.0 out of 5 starsTime to upgrade!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 23 August 2020
I bought the first MX Master roughly 4 year ago, it was my daily driver in the office with an average of 30+ hours a week usage. I had to charge it once a month, it was a fantastic mouse. The free moving centre wheel is the best feature ever when you have large spreadsheets or documents the scroll through. I'd still be using it and only upgraded as the my original died in a weird way. At first i thought it the Bluetooth on my laptop, but after reconnection the mouse I noticed the the button were working, but the cursor no longer moved, so I can only assume the something happened to the Darfield Laser, as unlike normal mice it does not glow red, you can't see it under normal operation.

So it decided it was time to upgrade, I did consider buying the another of the same model as it lasted be 4 years, but took the leap and decided to buy the MX Master 3, and honestly I am happy I did, they have changed the design, it fits better in my hand, the magnetic centre wheel is far better the first editions clicky one! The buttons are easily programable, just plug in the dongle and it will ask if you want to install the software for the mouse. I have the mouse hooked up to my Work laptop, my home Desktop, and my iPad Pro, and at the press of a button it instantly switches between those 3 devices.

All in all, these are the best mice I have ever owned. The MX Master is awesome, lasted years with daily use, battery life is amazing even after all that time. MX Master 3, although I have not had a great deal of time with it to write a detailed 100% honest review, I can already feel the improvement over it predecessor!

2.0 out of 5 starsThumb sits on the forward button - uncomfortable.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 24 September 2019
The second my hand touched the mouse I felt it: The thumb has to straddle/sit on the forward button whenever you want to use the mouse and there is no real way around it unless you have a small thumb OR you're one of the few that does not engage their thumb when using a mouse. The feeling of it annoys me and especially if you scroll to the right. I *might* get used to it over time but it's a shame.

I have the MX Master where the fwd/back buttons sit horizontal, attached to the thumb wheel. Looking at the fwd/back buttons on the mx3 I'm not sure where else they could've put them but anywhere would have been better than under the thumb. As far as I know Logitech are the only ones that do the thumb wheel so no one else to compare it to. It's also worth noting that the thumb wheel is now in its own little recess above fwd/back and to access it you need to lift your thumb so as to miss the fwd/back buttons. Personally, these feel like design flaws.

Ergonomics:
They're very subtle. The main change being a slight enlargement of the body under your index finger which has a butterfly effect on the rest of your hand position. If your coming from the original mx you'd probably say there isn't really any noticeable improvement.

Quality/feel:
It feels a bit cheap and leaves plenty to be desired. The Mx3 material reminded me of the alcantara material Microsoft use on their surface book/laptop keyboards. It is not smooth, sleek or sexy like the original MX and it retains heat from your palm.

Value for money:
No. I think a better price point would be about £60.00

Closing thoughts:
If you're going to release a new/upgraded version of the MX Master a few years after the original it should be noticeably improved upon its predecessor(s). The Logitech software is nice but its the actual physical device which matters most and where Logitech seem to have lost their way.

1.0 out of 5 stars Great mouse till it breaks

Oh dear! What to say. I bought this December last year and for the 6 months I had it, it was a dream. It was the best mouse I had ever had. Using this for heavy spreadsheet use was phenomenal. Until it died, like completely dead, it won't turn on at all, no lights to indicate anything. Charged with no response. In the end, I contacted Logitech who told me after 5 days that it was defective.

Initially, I asked for a refund which was given to me but then I started reminiscing on all the wonderful times I had with this mouse, all the spreadsheets we wizzed through together and I have taken the plunge to try again with another logitech mx3 master mouse hoping this time would be different.

Will definitely get an extended warranty if available but if you buy this mouse, proceed with caution. For such an expensive mouse, I do expect it to last more than 6 months. I have £20 mouse that lasted years.

I hope with the new logitech mouse, we can put the past behind us, let by-gones be by-gones and please work like a decent, functional mouse.

Update: 2 days after getting the replacement mouse and it is worse than my first mouse. The sound of scroll is horrendous. Had to return it after contacting Logitech again regards this.

2.0 out of 5 stars I really wanted to love this mouse, this is the worst heart break I have experienced
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 27 May 2020

Pros:
+ Huge variety of customisation

+ Being able to switch between computers seamlessly

Cons:
- The magnetic frictionless scroll wheel is a GIMMICK
it is "cool" that we can digitally control the frictionless threshold, but in actual use, it is very finicky.

- The scroll often fails on the first ratchet after switching applications.
I talked to Logitech support and they said it is common and the fix is to bang it against the table LOL

- Horrible ergonomics (IMO)
I am a bit biased as I have been using a vertical mouse prior to getting this, but my wrist starts hurting after ONLY 3 DAYS of using it.

- It is SO HEAVY
the weight of it is noticeably straining my wrist, and I am only 25...

---------------------------
A letter to my MX Master 3

I always knew you are the "best mouse ever", and I still believe so!
However, it turns out the idea of you is much better than actually being with you.

Unfortunately, this is where we will have to part ways... we had an amazing time together! Customising buttons, figuring out the most effective workflow, rubbing your bits late at night ;)

But you are such a burden to my wrist, the pain is... just unbearable.

It is me not you, MX Master 3, you are an incredible mouse and you deserve someone much better than me. It is time for us to move on... I will be returning you and I am sure you will find someone that would treat you the way you deserve.

P.S I love you

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't believe the positive Mac user reviews...
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 28 June 2020
Colour Name: BlackVerified Purchase
Pros -
- Expensive... Yes, that's the only positive - it's so you feel like you're getting a premium device because you spent more.

Cons -
- It's that old chestnut - Apple doesn't play nice with others.
- Lag in all its variants...
Delay in loading the Logi software means that your mouse initially uses the MacOS settings - which aren't suitable for non-Apple mice - jumping cursor or sleepy cursor - your pick.
The mouse sleeps at every possible moment and takes a few seconds wrist wrestling to be detected.
There is a noticeable lag moving across the screen.
Obviously this means it isn't suitable for gaming (but then what do you expect if you're playing games on a Mac).
However, it also means it's unhelpful for fine work requiring precision pointer movement as you can end up moving backwards and forwards across the destination you're aiming for.
It's frustrating moving the mouse and waiting for the cursor to catch up.
(I'd order a coffee machine from Amazon to make use of the delay time... but I can never quite get the cursor to land on the right spot.)
Button placement is a little strange and the magnetic scroll wheel also feels somehow unfinished.
It's all a moot point when the most common movement for the mouse seems to be shaking it on the mouse mat to get it to wake up.
Usability on Windows is improved - the problems seem to be slightly less obvious or are perhaps slightly more bearable.
You'd be crazy to buy this for gaming - on any OS - the lag is too pronounced. I can see the potential for a productivity mouse. However, as the owner of several premium mice from different brands - mechanical, gaming, productivity, wireless and wired - this mouse is sadly a disappointment
Perhaps the biggest problem is the biggest marketing point - switching between machines.
The buttons are simple enough but the experience is not.
There's no point switching the mouse if it doesn't work reliably on every machine.

So i brought the MX Master Keys and Master MX 3 Mouse at the same time. I wanted a mouse and keyboard that i can easily transition between my work computer and my personal gaming pc as well as us on my phone for typing while docked.

This mouse and keyboard combo are perfect for it.

Profile 1 Gaming PC
Profile 2 Work PC
Profile 3 Personal Phone.

With the simple press of 1 button i can go from work pc to responding to messages on phone to another press to messaging and reading messages on my my gaming PC reading and writing messages on discord.

For productivity this is going to save me so much time rather than having to unplug mouse and keyboard from one system to the other.

The build quality on the keyboard is amazing. there is 0 flex when typing and even the tried and tested twist test there is minimal flex.

Yes its a expensive keyboard but my god the amount of time its going to save me will pay for it self in no time.

I not tried any gaming on the keyboard as of yet but i dont think it will compete with my proper gaming PC though. There again i play mainly Racing sims like iRacing and ACC so no real need for a gaming keyboard for them when i use a wheel.

100% would reccomend this keyboard and mouse combo to anyone looking to improve on productivity and looking to have a stylish desk.

3.0 out of 5 stars Rechargeable, better battery life than most.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 1 January 2021
Colour Name: BlackVerified Purchase
I wanted a replacement wireless mouse for my M705 which lasted about 8 years before dragging started to become erratic. Was also looking for something that had a built-in lithium-ion battery so I didn't have to keep replacing the batteries or pulling out the charger to recharge them (yes, lazy).

Was going to go for the MX Anywhere 2S because it was the next closest to the broken mouse but then learned the wheel couldn't be used as a middle mouse button. That was a deal breaker because I use it that way a lot for opening links in new windows. It's not rechargeable either.

Most wireless mice that have built-in batteries don't last longer than a working day or two. This claimed to last 3 months which is the same as my M705. This came pre-charged and lasted a month out-the-box at about 12 hours/day before I got the battery low warning. On a full charge and default settings I got about 360 hours out of it (just over a month) before it started flashing red on default settings which is a far cry from its 70 days claim. To be fair, I work from home and I game on the PC so if you were using it just for working hours only then it would meet that claim I guess.

It's heavier and it's also bigger than my previous mice. The wheel is of premium build but feels like it's placed at a lower angle because of the higher arc on the LHS. Takes some getting used to. It's smooth in speed mode and doesn't make a grinding, wobbling unstable sound like my M705 did. Regular mode has stops and are very light, so you can just feel them without having to scroll hard.

Setup is as simple as other wireless mice I've used. Just plug in and go. Don't even have to install the optional software unless you want to tailor shortcuts to specifically for different apps with the extra buttons.

It's better than other rechargeable mice I've used that only lasted a day or two but if you really care about battery power, I would stick with the Marathon models where you use your own batteries. You could just buy rechargeable ones and they're cheaper too without the overly high curve. One star off because its Marathon models are cheaper and lasts longer. Another off for ergonomics because I still haven't got used to the curves after months of using this.

PROS
- Still useable while recharging.
- Non-proprietary USB-C, faster charging, fewer cables.
- Battery lasted 360 hours (a month) for me.

CONS
- That high edge will take some getting used to.
- You really only get about a month's worth heavy use.
- Battery's a far cry from claimed 70 days.

1.0 out of 5 stars Connection is atrocious
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 24 October 2020
Colour Name: BlackVerified Purchase
I originally tried out the MX Master when it first came out. Really well-reviewed all round so it was definitely worth a go. However, when I tried using it as a daily driver it kept giving me a really unstable connection. As I use it for work seeing the cursor stop momentarily when I'm moving it around the screen is really annoying.

Several years and two revisions later I decided to give the MX Master 3 a go. Newer laptop too. Same issue. I initially tried it via Bluetooth and moving the cursor around gave a really choppy connection. I went through their troubleshooting guide and did everything except reset my bluetooth connection. I decided to give it the benefit of the doubt and maybe one other device being connected to the same machine was too much interference with a mouse to give a smooth experience so I switched to its dongle. Same issue but it was probably about 80cm away from the mouse so I moved the receiver much closer (about 20cm away). Same again.
The other complaint that I have is that if the Bluetooth connection did work well, where do you put the receiver? Other companies, even low-priced Bluetooth mice have a port in the bottom to store the dongle. Not a premium Logitech device though?!

After I returned the mouse I bought a Razer ProClick, which works flawlessly with Bluetooth and has a place on the mouse to store the receiver if it's not in use.

Logitech used to practically be the de facto standard for PC peripherals. This has been a terrible experience though, twice over, so I'll be loathed to try their wireless peripherals in future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Expensive but worth every penny
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 August 2022
Colour Name: BlackVerified Purchase
I’ve never spent more than £15 tops on a mouse before, usually putting up with whatever generic off-brand one came with my computer or was at my workstation in the office, so I was naturally quite hesitant to spend this much on a device I hadn’t actually felt in the hand before and that differed slightly from the standard “puck” form factor I was used to. Upon getting a new MacBook and being absolutely underwhelmed by Apple’s own Magic Mouse, which is probably the only Apple product I’ve ever actively disliked, I decided to go for this one.

This mouse surpassed all my expectations, and I do not regret a single penny of the relatively high cost! It feels great in the hand, has a massive amount of customisation via the Logitech software, stores 3 preset devices to attach to, seamlessly can work between multiple devices via the Logitech software, can even assist in copying and pasting between different devices, has fantastic build quality with a nice rubberised feeling to the body and a reassuring weight in the hand.

The scroll wheel feels amazing in use in both its free wheeling mode and in its measured by-the-click scroll, which can be toggled between very easily.

Plenty of buttons and configurable in Logitech software with a wonderful multi use side button by the thumb, which allows 4 different actions to be set to a push then direction move on the mouse (eg press and mouse up can be set to ‘copy’, press and mouse down can be set to ‘paste’ etc).

Side scroll wheel works perfectly too, which is handy navigating around artboards in the Adobe Suite or horizontally wide Excel spreadsheets.

Battery life is excellent and I haven’t had to charge it once since its first charge, and this is with daily use from 9-5 every day, and I’ve had it a month or so now. With such a slow drain rate and no strain that comes with having to repeatedly charge the battery, I have every faith the battery lifespan of this over time will also be very good. I had a quick search online as when researching this to see if I could easily replace the battery myself in future should the need ever arise, and it looks fairly easy to do and currently very cheap to replace, which is reassuring given the cost of the mouse.

I purchased the “PC version”, rather than the “made for Mac” branded one, purely because at that time this was cheaper. There is absolutely no difference in the mouse itself, it’s the same product and I’ve used this seamlessly between PC, MacBook and iPad without any issue. The only difference I can see is the Mac boxed version comes with a USB-C to USB-C cable for charging rather than the USB-A to USB-C one this came with, however I have a multitude of USB-C to C cables anyway and also a dock with USB-A. With the pricing as it was, even if I’d bought the PC one over the Mac one, I’d still have had enough to buy a cheap USB-C to C cable and still have saved money, but as mentioned this wasn’t necessary in my case.

Beautifully packaged with the unified receiver dongle, which I haven’t had call to use really as it worked out the box just fine with Bluetooth on all of my devices.

Could not rate this any more highly, and the ergonomic feel in the hand is fantastic. I guess I never missed what I’d never had before, but the quality of life improvements of having a good mouse when I spend all day using one is something that I now absolutely appreciate, and I don’t regret a single penny of the cost. In fact I was so impressed I only went on to spend more money on Logitech; buying the Master keyboard and wrist rest too!

I cannot fault this mouse at all!

Highly accurate movement on both the scroll wheels and regular pointer.
Fits my hand nice and is comfortable, I can see it not fitting other peoples but for me it's perfect.
Looks very nice and the grey colour is especially aesthetically pleasing.
The function button underneath to swap control over to another paired device is seamless and works great. Can flick between my desktop and laptop no problem.

Always been a guy to buy £15 mice and keyboard sets and laugh at people paying big money for these things. Now I have a great mechanical keyboard and this mouse and my 8+ hours a day a at a computer are much more comfortable.

EDIT: Downgraded to 3 stars. The grey rubber has discoloured where the thumb rests and near the buttons on top and the left mouse button has developed a creak, after 6 months of use.
I have tried various cleaners but this is an actual discolouration. I have rectified the creaking on the button by dropping some oil down there, but why should I have to do this on a £100 mouse?

I cannot fault this mouse at all!

Highly accurate movement on both the scroll wheels and regular pointer.
Fits my hand nice and is comfortable, I can see it not fitting other peoples but for me it's perfect.
Looks very nice and the grey colour is especially aesthetically pleasing.
