How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings, help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.

4.0 out of 5 starsMuch better than my old camera
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 25 July 2020
I was initially hesitant at getting this webcam as I, as always, looked at the bad reviews to see if there where any major issues and faults that might cause a problem. The main one was that Windows 10 had problems recognising the cam or it not working. I also toyed with the cheaper alternatives that have proliferated Amazon these past few months that seem to not be of the same manufacturing quality or were sub par.

I decided to take a gamble (I can always return it if it didn't work) and thankfully, I was in luck. The cam worked perfectly and the video quality is a big improvement to my older Microsoft Lifecam HD3000 (720px, 30fps) which was very blurry and did not stand up against the video quality when I compare it to others peoples' during a Zoom music session. Given the price, I did not want to spend £140 on a webcam of that same quality but wouldn't mind paying if there was a good improvement. I cannot comment on the mic as I always use a separate one, so whether the internal mic is good or bad is not a relevant issue to me.

Software-wise, after the webcam installs, it prompts you to download the Logitech Capture app, which works a charm and has more options and features compared to the standard Camera app on Windows (which now no longer works properly after an update a year ago; it can't save a video or photo). So this is a godsend and hence why is has very easily gone out of stock very fast, being very sought after during the coronavirus disruptions.

One thing I would say is that I ordered the black version, but the one I received is grey. Not sure if that was a mistake, a new model replacement to the discontinued black, or something else. However, I do not mind it as I just want a good functioning webcam and how it looks is a secondary consideration.

As some have highlighted, it uses a USB-C type connector to plug into the computer/laptop, which they rarely have a socket for. So you need to purchase a separate USB-C to USB adaptor to connect it to the computer. This, I feel, is ludicrous. They should have provided the adaptor to begin with instead of having those without a USB-C socket fork out for one on top; and I question the rationale behind using a non-standard connector for a webcam such as this in the first place. It is because of this rather silly design choice I must knock one star off as this shouldn't have been an imposition to begin with if they had used a standard USB, which every computer has.

Using on Big Sur Mac, latest Logitech software etc. Camera autofocus just doesn't work. Never focussed on my face correctly unless I get very close. Tried other computer, tried different lighting etc. Contacted Logitech support via forums but couldn't get resolution so i'm returning it. Wasted couple of hours messing around with it. I'll avoid Logitech and try another brand.

2.0 out of 5 stars Streamcam not happy on Windows 10 with Asus PRIME X299-A motherboard
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 18 August 2020

I bought this because a friend recommended it. That friend mostly runs linux though. As soon as I plugged the StreamCam into my only USB-C port, the computer bluescreened.
So I upgraded the BIOS of my desktop ASUS PRIME X299-A from v1704 (02/14/2019) to v3006 (2/7/2020). That at least fixed the bluescreen. I also updated the Intel ME.
This is an i9 Scan computer one year old, with Windows 10 Pro, NVidia Quadro RTX 4000. I downloaded Logitech's Logicapture software, which says all of their drivers are up-to-date.
But the camera freezes all the time in Logicapture, and in Zoom. Not so much in Windows Camera. Zoom also says the microphone isn't working, when it is.
After I described my woes, my friend remarked: "I have noticed that if I toggle the camera on and off too quickly (e.g. doubletap the camera on/off hotkey) it can cause it to lock up until I soft reload my usb driver, but I assumed that was a linux issue."
I almost never return things to Amazon, but if I can find this thing's box, I will.

3.0 out of 5 stars Prefer the C920HD. Try finding one though...
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 9 November 2020

Have bought a few of these for the family's home PCs... now that we're all 'working from home' and 'home schooling'... and chose this more down to a lack of availability of anything else (I previously used a couple of C920HD's which were excellent).

I bought one initially... and although I felt it was a bit expensive for what it offered, I was really impressed by the 60mhz HD performance. I then managed - over time - to buy 3 more. They were all working fine. Kids liked them... my wife thought they were fabulous... until they all firmware-updated themselves and then suddenly they were incapable of 60Mhz anymore. Now they all perform like your average fifty quid camera. Brilliant. Just what I'd splashed out over five hundred quid for. So... bit disappointing.

On the plus side however, they track well... focus well enough... background correct well... and have excellent microphone sensitivity when used for musical instruments in a fairly reverberant room.

But - and especially for the money - I can't say I would recommend them over the C920HD.

Try finding one though...

2.0 out of 5 stars What use is a good camera without good support?
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 13 October 2020

The camera itself is fine (I believe) BUT I cant really tell because the technical support has been a disaster. This camera requires a USB 3.1 type C connection. BUT be carefull: If your USB plug is a 3.1 type C SECOND generation the camera will not support 60fps and the microphone will disconnect ever now and than.
Also this camera hates ASMedia USB 3.1 type C PCIexpress chipsets. SO good luck checking if your USB connection is first generation and not ASmedia chip. I should mention: IF you figure out, that you have indeed bought a second generation USB 3.1 type c PCI express card with a ASMedia chipset, you will find yourself unable to buy a first generation USB 3.1 PCI express card, because that generation is OLD and not available anymore. Also you will have to search for hours before finding a PCI card which is not ASMedia, because most (for example on Amazon) cards are ASMEDIA (even if not mentioned in the product description, which makes it even funnier). So let me conclude: If you have an old computer, you might wanna buy this new camera (No, this is not a joke). Otherwise, you probably save yourself a lot of stress by not buying it.

Update 3.12.20: Had to send it back after the official logitech support team was unable to name me ANY PCI USB card that is available to purchase now and works with the camera. Consider that this camera is not working with new PCs

3.0 out of 5 stars Lastest software has a nasty bug!!!!!

Well made. But no matter what USB I plugged it into, it complained of performance and would not let me use 1080 60fps—the whole reason to get the camera. After hours of research and buying adapters to use other ports, which didn't help, I started to suspect the software.

After downgrading to version 2, it just worked—so crap software okay camera but too expensive.

4.0 out of 5 stars Really good camera, Great picture, Etc.. Please read review

So the title says it all really but why not a 5 star??

Pros
This camera works well on my windows 10 PC which is fairly modern (I7 Pentium, Tons of Ram etc). Picture quality is very good when lit well. I do not have a dedicated USB C so have had to but a USB 3 to USB C extension.. Not good at the price.

The sound is pretty good for a webcam but I will upgrade.
Auto focus, light balance etc all good. It also pans out and side to side framing you if you use it in the settings.
I am on balance so far well pleased!
CONS
1) WHY... WHY if you are going to make the camera a USB C only not supply an adapter? Not good
2) The cable is totally fixed to camera. Not an issue but its neither short enough if using a laptop or long enough for a desktop if you have it on the floor. Extension therefore required
3) Software is pretty good but I have not as yet worked out if I am able to use the software via messenger - zoom etc. (This might be as i have not yet got it right
4) The Tripod mount is a separate mount Easy lost so would have thought a better design might have meant it all together

So in summary. Its a great camera and for me a huge step up from the C922 which I bought and returned. A few minor things would have made it a defo 5 star. Would i recommend.. Yes given the above Cons

If you found helpful give a thumbs up
Thanks

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent webcam. I hope you're all able to get one!

In these crazy times, a good webcam has never been so essential! I have found this to be a genuine pleasure, although my experience is limited to some rather naff, cheap cameras from days gone by.

The picture quality is excellent, with the 1080p resolution and 60fps capture rate being noticeable from the off. Viewers commented from first use that the image looked amazing.

I have used this camera on both a high end gaming PC and an Xbox One X (using a USB C to USB adaptor) and it worked a treat on both.

Perfect webcam for the budding streamer or family pub quizzer!

3.0 out of 5 stars I'm not sure
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 18 May 2021

I've had this camera a little while now and played around with it, exploring all the settings.
I'm not shy so have no problem showing my face, or my room, so i've attached two photos to for comparing quality.
I won't say the make of the other one, just that it cost £30(ish) and it's a few years old.
For things like Zoom and Skype this Streamcam is maybe "slightly better? but for live streaming game play I found this Logitech Streamcam to cause lag and dropped frames.
To make use of all the feature you need to set the OBS to use "Logitech Capture" thus creating a "middle man" instead of running direct from the camera.
And it would seem that my PC and internet connection just isn't up to the task of transmiting 1080p @ 60fps video simultaniously with gameplay at the same output.
Using the "middle man" even coming down to 720p @30fps still caused lag and problems.
I ended up going back to my cheaper camera when streaming game play with it's maximum setting (and default/native) of 720p @30fps.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best webcam you will get for this price!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 23 February 2021

Ordered to replace my ever ageing Logitech C270 - and by god the difference is incredible! I’m a small streamer but felt like my camera was really in need of an upgrade, especially since the C270 is only 720p 30fps, and this seemed like the best option on offer to enable me to switch up to 1080p 60fps for a smoother stream overall (since I stream at 1080p 60fps).

Compared to the C270, every little thing about this camera blows it away. Colours are far more true to life, focussing is instantaneous - even when you put your hand close to the camera and then move it away, and just the overall clarity of moving from such a low resolution/FPS up to this is clearly visible, even on stream!

The only one slight niggle I had was for some reason the drivers fail to save the settings you apply on OBS. In OBS, if you open up the “configure video” options for the camera, you can set things manually, such as; brightness, contrast, saturation, sharpness, white balance etc. - but I found for some reason, when setting these options, any time I would close and then re-open OBS, I would have to re-configure these settings. You can sort of fix this by downloading “Logitech Webcam Software” version 2.80.853.0. All you have to do, is download the software. Install it, even though it says the camera is incompatible, just install it anyways. Once it is installed, open the software and click “Quick Capture” then on the right hand side, click “Advanced Settings”. The same box you see when you click “configure video” in OBS should pop up, so just set this up the way you like in OBS. Once you have everything set up, click “Preferences” at the top of the window, click the “General” tab, and then check “Auto-launch webcam controller”. I have learned that upon a computer restart, it will still reset the settings, but if you set them on a fresh boot, they will remain the same for the whole session, even if you close and re-open OBS multiple times.

This is the only minor issue I have with this webcam, and it is caused due to the Logitech drivers, which it seems they haven’t fixed even after multiple complaints as old as 4 years.
