I was looking forward to using a Chromecast to easily watch videos, TV shows and movies from my laptop to my TV. The setup took minutes, and I was able to stream videos from a Google Chrome tab on my laptop to my TV very easily. So, what’s the problem? The problem was that it was a little TOO easy. A couple of hours later, my WiFi connection cut out. Sometimes, I can get back into my WiFi connection by forgetting the network, then logging back in with the password, so I tried this out. I opened the WiFi settings in my laptop and, for some reason, every WiFi connection in the street was listed PLUS my Chromecast (listed as ‘Living Room TV’). It was not secured, so it was an open route to share my WiFi connection without a password. I have no idea how the Chromecast set itself up as an open, free WiFi port for my own WiFi connection without any password needed. I quickly unplugged the Chromecast and plugged it back in after a few minutes - the same open WiFi network popped up again. I’ve unplugged it for good now, and my WiFi connection has been restored about an hour after. I searched for this on the internet, and apparently this is a common issue. I have not found a solution yet. I have no idea what the Chromecast did to my WiFi connection. I am not going to use the Chromecast anymore.
