How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings, help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.

5.0 out of 5 starsEasy to get on Switch account (if you know what you are doing!)
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 26 November 2021
Once you have bought the coins, go onto your order details for this product and click on 'go to your games library.' Next, click 'redeem from Xbox.com, this actually takes you to Microsoft and doesn't put the coins onto an Xbox account. Sign into your Microsoft account and follow the instructions and then sign into the same Microsoft account on Minecraft on your Switch and this will automatically add the coins to the marketplace.

The code you get from this product is not the right code to redeem on the Nintendo Eshop, you have to go onto Microsoft and redeem them.

3.0 out of 5 starsHere's how to use them...
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 20 December 2019
I bought them via Amazon. After checkout I spotted what looks like a standard Microsoft key code in little text under the product title. I copied this to clipboard.

MCM43-blah-blah-etc

I then opened a browser in Private Mode so it wasn't logged in as me.

I went to redeem.microsoft.com

I logged in as my daughter, who is 9 in March, using her Microsoft Account (linked to my MS family).

I pasted in the code and submitted it and it confirmed.

I then opened Minecraft on my PC to check they'd gone in, visible under the Marketplace button, top left. All good.

I then force closed Minecraft on the iPad and reopened it.

I then notice she was not logged-in and chose to login, this presented a screen with some blurb I didn't really understand and two options, something like "Save to Microsoft Account" and "Leave on Device". I chose the former.

It took me to an MS login page and I entered my daughter's credentials and it logged in.

I went to the Marketplace but my wifi was flakey and it didn't load. I toggled flight mode and force closed Minecraft again.

I opened Minecraft and under Marketplace, eventually it loaded and the coins were visible in the top right.

I hope this helps the mums and dads out there!

...as I type this, my kids are going nuts for whatever it is they can now do with them.

--

I bought a second time this morning and they were not applied to my daughter's account for some reason.

1.0 out of 5 stars A cautionary tale... Windows Microsoft accounts

A cautionary word for anyone purchasing these. They are non transferable.

This means if you buy them for your child, you MUST set them up in your child's name on your parental Microsoft account... Do not set them up under your name. On Christmas day this became a long, tiresome online chat. This seems to be a common issue and several purchasers have had the same issue.

So when you get the email to redeem the code... Sign into Microsoft under your child's account. Even then we had issues.

Alternatively, go straight to minecraft marketplace and buy it under your child's account, the parent will then get an email to approve it. Then pay by PayPal... It's less hassle.

Amazon, after a protracted conversation and the threat of no more business from me, relented and refunded. As I explained, it may be hidden away in the terms and conditions, but it is not in the description of the goods. Ultimately Amazon agreed.

1.0 out of 5 stars Do not buy if you are not gaming expert

Absolutely Rubbish way of processing. Bought this for the first time as a Christmas gift for my 9-year boy who has no Microsoft account or even his own email. I never played this game by myself as well as I am not an IT expert. I was trying to follow the process with my account. It automatically opened a new Mindcraft account with a different name on it and took the coins. We tried to do something but I have no skills. All made my boy cry. I feel like being scammed. Absolutely this is not acceptable. There is even no way to contact Amazon about it.
Be careful!

1.0 out of 5 stars Please make sure your child adds the coins to the right account

To be fair, she did know and did make a mistake but she is only 11.

But if she starts up the xbox with my profile - doesn't notice as she is so excited and redeems the code - I suddenly have a very sad 11 year old - And a lot coins on an account that will never use them.

I looked for a way for transferring the coins - we use the MS Family feature so hoped this would be possible however it is clearly not a feature supported within the ecosystem.

So buyer beware and ensure your excited child does not accidentally give you lots of MineCoins !!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Dissappointing purchase

Tis was part of a Santa present. Minecraft dungeon coins to be used with the nintendo switch game. Christmas morning we realised this was for Xbox only, even though the advert says it's for all platform, and Nintendo Switch is named. This 20 digit code does not work on the 16 digit required Nintendo switch game. Plus, there is no ability to to ask someone to look into this, or exchange for the correct code. Disappointed.

1.0 out of 5 stars Redeemed code to correct account but coins never appeared in game
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 October 2021
Style Name: 1720 CoinsVerified Purchase
Should have headed the warnings from all the other negative reviews on this. I will never buy this sort of pack again. I followed the same steps as last reviewer which was successful. I made sure the pack code was redeemed against my child's Microsoft account, not my parent account. But no matter how many times we restart the game and login as the child account on the game, the coins do not appear under Marketplace. Had a support chat with Xbox support, they verified the child account was all ok and could see the pack purchase and code redeemed on the account, but could not explain why the coins were not showing up under the game. They suggested we wait 24hrs too see if they would appear in the game, and if not seek support from the online Minecraft help centre. So in my opinion buying coins this way is certainly not worth all the hassle! We have wasted many hours fault finding this, and in the end just bought coins directly in the game under the Marketplace. If you buy this as a gift to surprise your child, and expect they can redeem the pack code and use the coins immediately. . . be warned, in my experience (and of many others) it certainly does not work like that, doh!

3.0 out of 5 stars Having the code doesn't always make it easy

Read the other reviews for help, getting the coins on to the system isn't straight forward and I can see people less techy having issues and stress. why the game cannot just add a way to input code on whatever format your using is beyond me.

My son loves them but could be a lot easier.

1.0 out of 5 stars Do not buy. Purchase coins directly inside of minecraft for your kid.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 30 September 2021

I bought these for my son. He was correctly signed in under his own xbox account, and reclaimed the code.

He's signed in on his table under the same account to play minecraft. We've signed out and in, we've rebooted, and we've been in contact with Microsoft support.

He does not have the coins in Minecraft.

This giftcard process is bug ridden - do not buy, again, buy directly inside of minecraft to ensure the coins are actually purchased.

I'm now trying to get a refund...
