Great as a headset but there are some downsides outside of gaming.

If you're looking for a gaming headset I would absolutely recommend the SteelSeries Arctis 3 - the overall sound, mic and comfort are great and you won't have any problems hearing and communicating during your sessions. That said outside of gaming the headset fairs differently for different occasions. For watching shows and films the headset again is great with a solid sound space, but music is where headset really struggles - the audio never reaches those highs and lows feel rather muffled, you eventually get frustrated by how much you're missing out on. Those frustrations coupled with a lot of sound leakage when the volume is loud enough to hear the sound space makes you really wonder why you don't just listen to the music without the headset on. Overall it's a great headset for gaming, and consuming shows and films, however, if you're looking to listen to music with these, be warned there's a lot of sound leakage and the overall music experience isn't great.

Poor sound quality but comfortable

The headset design is great and the retractable microphone is a novel but interesting feature.
The headband material means that your head is not resting on the plastic at the top and the ear cushions are of a good size so that your ears don't become sore after a while so very comfortable to use.
However the volume in this headset is extremely low on all devices and overall sound quality very poor when compared to other headphones cheaper or in similar price range. It's not just the loudness which is low but the actual frequency curve. The cable is also far too short. Yes I know it's a console headset but even with an adapter to connect to your PC it's too short to use on anything other than your console which is a major negative when you consider other headsets in this pricepoint come with adapters and longer cables so you can use it with any device.

If you are willing to sacrifice audio quality and practicality for great comfort and a good looking design then this is the headset for you.

The 2019 edition of this (only one I’ve owned and purchased recently)... simply wow, the quality is sharp and clear, the comfort of the earcups and band that latches onto your head makes the headset feel weightless. It really is impressive for its value, feels and looks really well made and what more could you expect at this price for a steelseries headset, they are the best I’ve owned. Last but not least did I mention they’re comfortable af?! Well then. Works with every platform so lots of potential usage. I wouldn’t live in earcups as most I find uncomfortable but these are the first to not give me ear cartilage pains over long hours of sitting and playing.

Got these arctis 3 consoles for £43. Came in PS packaging but work for Xbox series X as well. Sound is good and I’m hearing things in GTA online that I wasn’t using the sound from the tv and sonos set up. If you’re on a budget and don’t mind a headset plugged into your controller these are worth the cash. Build quality seems pretty good. Mic tucks away nicely. Be sure to adjust the headset volume in your Xbox settings as well. Mine (possibly default) was low so the head phones were quiet until I worked out why. Now they can be as loud as I want.

These headphones are pretty damn good, to say the least. They have superb surround sound for both gaming and music, although I only use them for gaming. I have tried them with music and audio, and they are insane.

They are definitely worth the price, and are definitely not overrated.

I will admit that the microphone is a bit flimsy. It extends and goes back into the actual headphone for convenience, however, it does feel rather flimsy and low quality. The microphone itself is amazing and is crystal clear. So that does compensate for its flimsiness pretty heavily.

I would recommend this headset for gaming and music, however, they are not the most portable. They are rather large, so I wouldn’t purchase them if I was travelling with them frequently.

The actual audio for the headset is amazing, exactly what you’d expect for a headset of this price, with very good surround sound, range of volumes and a very good mix (of bass ,treble etc).
However where this headset falls down is the mic, within a week of owning the headset the mic is already creating funny noises on the other end. In the subsequent weeks of purchase I’ve had multiple people in xbox party chat tell me that my mic is ‘making that funny noise again’ which is the whole reason I bought this headset, so I wouldn’t have to deal with that. There’s also evidence for these noises as the xbox party overlay is triggered constantly.
The only way i’ve found to fix this issue is by unplugging and plugging in the headset, as merely changing the mic monitoring does not work as another issue is the lack of volume from my own mic, another thing which people complained about.

All in all very good, comfortable and with decent sound and controls. Works as expected with XBOX and also works well with Windows etc if you want something for calls. The sound is very god, they're very comfortable. The mic is probably the weakest point, it's not bad, but response from people is that the sound is just slightly low when speaking, so you have to line the extendable mic up close to mouth and also speak up a little, but it's marginal really.

The sound quality was extremely poor including the ‘breathable’ ear cups my ears got very hot after around 1 hours of playing. Massively disappointed with the microphone it picks up any background noise and picks up very light breathing and my friends ask me to turn up and down my microphone constantly and I’m not but any headsets from steelseries ever again !

Having been on the look for a new headset for my PS4 I came across several reviews and brands and the SteelSeries units came out on top.

The 3 console edition is priced at an perfect point to provide a superior audio experience for gaming while not breaking the bank with functions that wouldn't necessarily be used.

They have a decreet and professional look to them when compared to some of the other gaming headsets which feel cheap and have sharp angles. The sliding mic is great as it can be pulled out when needed or retract into the headset when not in use. The left side also has a mute mic button and a volume dial which is great for increasing the volume in those intense situations.

Great sound comes from this device,however,after only using it for 2 months the microphone stopped working. Sound is muffled and to record your voice you need to speak to the speakers instead of the mic. Unbelievable.
