Apple Macbook USB-C sockets are too close together!

It is REALLY annoying to spend so much on a new MacBook and then discover that nothing I have can plug into the USB sockets without an adapter. Even more annoying, though the new Mac has 4 USB-C sockets, they are in pairs too close together to use simple adapters like this. Effectively I can only use 2 of the 4 USB-C sockets for cameras, backup drive, Garmin watch etc etc etc. The problem is not with this adapter. Even if it were paper-thin, the standard USB plugs are too big to sit side by side in the MacBook USB-C sockets. Apple is playing a dangerous game. It risks annoying previously loyal customers. I have an absolute house full of cables, plugs, and adapters and they have still managed to design something that requires me to go and buy more! These little adapters are, at least, quite small.

I was after a Thunder bolt to usb for my 2012 27” iMac, when I put the description into Amazon the item that came was a usb-c to usb, not know there was a difference I purchased the recommended items, it arrived in good time, it was a great item but it didn’t do what I bought it for, in fact it wouldn’t even plug into the port.
I just wish Amazon would be more vigilant with item descriptions as this has cost me unnecessary expense!

I had an old 2009 MacBook Pro in which the internal CD-ROM had failed so I replaced it with an additional hard drive and then rather stupidly bought an external SuperDrive before I realised that it was not natively supported by Macs which had originally come with internal drives! Tweaking one of the system configuration files resolved the problem until the most recent versions of Mac OS removed that particular work around and so for several years the SuperDrive has sat on a shelf gathering dust and to be honest I did not really need a CD ROM drive anyway. I recently rediscovered the drive along with an Iomega external combination drive which includes a 3.5” floppy and tried them on my new 2018 MacBook Pro via a USB-C hub but neither worked, I got a message saying “USB device requires power” and was on the point of throwing them both away when I decided to make one last attempt at connection but using a direct converter rather than a hub.
The point of this rather long winded ramble is that having read numerous reviews about USB-C converters which do not quite work as advertised I was very pleased that these adapters actually allowed me to connect two very different and some would say antiquated devices to a state of the art computer and they both worked first time with no messing around, the machine was able to see them and read files from media.
First impressions are good, they feel substantial, build quality appears excellent for the very reasonable price and you never know when you might need to read a CD or even a 3.5” floppy even in these days of downloadable gigabyte sized media files.

I’ve had 4 other so called usb 3.0 to usb-c adapters in the past. They either flat out didn’t work, or broke after a few uses due to cheap builds. So I’d pretty much given up on buying an adapter, till I saw this one on sale.

After a bit of thought I decided to give it a go, and colour me surprised it’s thus far proven to be the best I’ve used to date.

Build quality is superb. What also caught me by surprise was the weight, they have a bit of heft to them which to me says the materials used in the building were of good quality. No cheap thin aluminium here!

Truth be to;d I only have a minor issue with the build quality, and that is that the usb 3 side is a bit lose, it’s easy to pull out what ever is connected, I’ve had one just fall out on its own when I knocked my laptop. A minor gripe, but one I hope is resolved in an upgraded model.

Beyond this everything has worked as it was intended.

Highly recommend this over other such adapters!

This has worked flawlessly for the past 9 months with my Surface go its very low profile so doesn't stick out too much and is very thin. It has an all metal body and the connecters are rock solid with a nice snug fit to my Surface Go's type-C port as well as the type-A port having no issues with cables wabbling about as well. You get two of these adapters in the pack so they are really handy if you have a couple of devices which you need to hook up type-A devices to.

- Overview -
I have used these a few times week for the last 6 months. I bought these for my MacBook Air to connect any USBs to my Mac. This two pack adapter set is worth the money. The official apple one is far more expensive and has a cable which might not be useful for some.

- Appearance -
I bought mine in Space Grey to match my MacBook, the adapters have two metal lines of each side to improve the overall grip making it easier to detach from your favourite accessory when needed.

- Use -
Being a student and an enthusiast of technology I have alot of cables. I have a small bag to keep them in however with cables mostly being usb when your on a USB C things can get a little harder. The two adapters you could fit into a pocket or leave connected to a cable. I have used these for my printer, external microphone and more. The adapters are easy to pull out when you are done, due to their size I tend to leave these connected to cables I use alot. This makes setting up far easier.

- Conclusion -
My overall conclusion is they are amazing gadgets, they are lightweight and durable though I don't bash mine around. The small size means they are easy to have on hand and do not add excess length onto an existing cable, that could be a pro and con. Finally being space grey it means they 'blend' in more with my MacBook's colour scheme unlike the white Apple official one.

I bought these about a month ago but have only just started using them (having finally set up my new MacBook). I initially thought that there was a problem as I could not get them past half-way in. Their customer services were fantastic. Despite the fact that I was beyond the 30-day period they offered to first troubleshoot (and if that didn't work) refund/replace. Apparently, you do have to press quite hard to get them to connect (certainly harder than I have to for other USB-Cs). I was a little reticent to press any harder given it's a new computer, but they do in fact connect once you give them a little more push and seem to work well. The adapters themselves are nice and weighty (they have a substantial feel which makes me think they'll be pretty hardy). They're slightly darker than the Space Grey of my laptop, but only negligibly so.

tl;dr Fantastic customer service, fast responses and helpful. Stylish looking adapter that feels like a quality build. Works well.

It surprises me that you get 2 of these for just over a fiver. They are made of aluminium and finished to a very high standard. Unfortunately, if you have a MacBook [2017-2020] with just the 2 USB-C ports, you can't put 2 of these in the MacBook as the ports are too close together. It's not the first time this has happened. It's not the fault of Syntech but the fault of the company that makes the MacBook. However if you bought a USB C port replicator with 4 USB C ports then bought 2 of these Syntech adapters [ 4 for just over a tenner ] You can future proof your computer and it would be cheaper than buying a port replicator with 10-15 ports some of which you don't need. Well done to Syntech for making such a quality product.

I purchased these after purchasing my 2018 MacBook Pro with the lack of USB ports! They’re just what I needed to plug my phone, external hard drive and other accessories into my new MacBook. These are amazing. The colour is exactly the same as the Space Grey MacBook and they’re made of metal so they feel really good quality. It’s a bonus that you getb2 in the pack too! It was also really easy to register for the lifetime warranty too! Transfer speeds so far are great, just what you’d expect and I can hardly tell there’s an adapter there. I would highly recommend buying these - I can’t believe they don’t have more reviews.
