I have read a few reviews on here regarding how disgraceful the 'Hunting' is on this game. Please, grow up, stop trying to give a game a bad name just because you only eat tomatoes. There's a review regarding rockstar to create a game where people hunt other people, well hello, if you followed your title you would understand there's a game called manhunt which was from rockstar, please look it up and play it for your wish to come true.

In western times people ate whatever they could to survive, even if it meant cannibalism. I'm sorry but if it was my life and a piece of venison I would choose the venison any day of the week. Luckily, now days we can just buy our food from a supermarket rather than hunt it for ourselves.

This is a video game, not a tutorial on how to hunt. Please get that into your empty skulls. I understand killing an animal for a sport is wrong, I agree, but not for living. I far from agree on killing an animal in general in these times we live in. But you need to get the fact it's a video game, for entertainment purposes, now I've played it, I'm not gonna get a shotgun licence and go hunting. It's a realistic time of the times in the western.

If you want your money back, then so be it, get a refund buy a farming simulator or something instead, but don't expect an 18+ game from rockstar to be created for the light hearted.

3.0 out of 5 starsA bit like flying a plane.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 November 2018
I'm told that flying a plane is 90% boredom when you're flying from A to B, and 10% thrill when you take off or land. Red Dead Redemption 2 is a bit like that, but the percentage is more like 70% boredom and 30% thrill. And with horses rather than planes.

It really is a gloriously beautiful game, and the interaction with the environment is stunning. The trouble is you get so much time to admire how beautiful it is as you trot from A to B. If you're happy with only getting the thrill 30% of the time, then thats fair enough. I'm finding that an hour of gameplay is enough before I get weary of guiding my nag about.

The missions, and storyline are great though the control can be a bit cumbersome at times - for example, I've pushed the button to talk to a character just as they move out of range and I've drawn my gun and pointed it at them instead - causing havoc. Maybe thats just me.

Anyway - it is a good game and worth playing. But be prepared to get a little bored.

This game more than lives upto the hype...
Its a landmark in gaming history .....
Im 23% into main story and already ive had experiences on this game il never forget...

Where to start this review??
Theres so to much to say about this game...

Il just write what happened in one of many different scenarios ive experienced so far...

I had to track down this old gun slinger to talk to about a book that was being wrote ....

He was on a train in the bar....

We started talking and he freaked out and ran off onto the top of the train...

I ran after him....and we ended up doing dueling on the top of the train...

I beat him eventually.....(after a few trys....)

End of mission.... but i stayed on the train and ended up in this big city at about 6pm...

The alarm was raised as i was wanted..... I stayed on train as long as possible but it stoped in a station with lawmen everywhere...

Im managed to run away while being shot at....every1 was shouting........i was getting chased around this maze of a city.....bursting through doors jumping over walls & hideing to escape..........none of this is scripted at all its your own experience.....but seems so real...

The city itself is the most detailed ive seen in a game ever....ever nook and cranny is alive....and people are going about there business...

I eventually managed to get out of the city alive but filthy and bloody....

But i had no horse and was dirty so everbody was suspicion of me...

Eventually i had to murder someone and steel his horse to try and get away nearer my camp...

I actually felt bad for killing someone because the game gives you a different experience if you are good or bad and im trying to be good...lol..

I got back to a small town on my stollen horse ......

I found a hotel...paid $1 for a room and 0.25cents for a bath......

Cleaned all my weapons (which u need to do as they degrade)

And slept for 12 hours...

Got up at the crack of dawn and wondered back to camp......

Where a women asked me to take her son fishing.....

I did and court 3 fish with him......🐠🐠🐠.

Simply amazing.........

EDIT.......

72% into main story i feel i must address negative comments on other reviews...

Firstly.... people moaning about wanted level and been hunted down....???

You are an outlaw....a murderer!!.....u will be hunted down...AND!?!?!?!......This is obviously going to happen its part if the game........
If the map starts to turn red then bounty hunters are close by.....
Leave in the opposite direction staright away and you can always get away.......

If you opt to stay and defend yourself early on in the game it is harder to get through these attacks.......
but as the game moves on and you level up with better weapons and you get better at the game you can defend yourself against groups of bounty hunters.........

And its becomes great fun to find cover and take them on.....and very satisifying to beat them.....and then loot the bodies.....

Gamers in reviews moaning about being tracked by bounty hunters are obviously not very good at the game......end of story....
It takes a bit of time to be able to take them on........untill then just ride away in good time.....and do main story missions untill you are good enough to take them on.....

My own opinion is actually the opposite...i believe its a bit to easy to beat them after a while......maybe ive just got good at it....im not sure....

I personally find it awesome exploring the map...sleeping next to a fire at night knowing people are after you.......its what the game is all about.....YOUR AN OUTLAW !!!!!

Secondly gamers moaning about the controls...!!

The control's are fine but take time to learn and to perfect.....
You must plan where your going to take cover......not just run and hope by tapping r1 you will immediately find cover......

The controlls could be better yes i admit but after alot of time on the game you wont notice......

And Lastly ....

People moaning the game is boring!!!!!

Wtf!!!!!! i just cannot believe some People...

This is a game you sit down and experience especially in the 1st 4 or 5 hours.....it draws you in to another world........

you need to let it..........

I personally believe the majority of people saying its boring and slow are the call of duty generation ..........
The gamers with hyper anxiety who play muliplayer over and over again.....who want a quick fix of killing people ......

Wrong game entirely im afraid.......

This game requires 3 hours minimum spare time to play especially on the first sit in.....

The story is amazing and the cutscences are amazing..........

You must give the game the time it deserves....

2.0 out of 5 stars Hard to admit a big let down :o(
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 2 November 2018

The original Red Dead redemption - whilst similar - had slightly less stuff to maintain, remember, do, control. In this case, less really is more. It just felt more engaging. I feel even the story was more gripping. Controls were certainly less clunky and unintuitive and everything seemed to respond better. Now with Red Dead 2 it's just too much maintenance. Combat seems clumsy and enemies over powered. You become wanted way too easily making it less fun. You can unlock fast travel to make it less boring travelling around the vast map, but it's costly and not obvious. It shouldn't be this way.

it promised so much being developed off the back of the award winning first title for so many years. We expected the very best and to some extent we got it if you count the huge open world map, visuals and cut scenes. Boring seems to be the word most use to describe this game. I think it had so much potential it's just not been well executed. A real shame. You just don't get the same feel as in the first one. It's almost "too real life" to be fun.

I have to also mark down the opening sequences and beginning parts of the game. It does nothing to make you want to play it more! It builds very slowly and nothing much happens at all. The story is meant to be the strong point.

I can't believe it took 7+ years to create this disappointment. If you come into the game having never seen or played the first one, you will probably like it more, and forgive a lot of the above.

N. Edmonds
5.0 out of 5 stars An immersive and inspiring experience rather than action-led game.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 29 October 2018
Verified Purchase
Red Dead Redemption 2 achieves its aim to create a immersive and realistic world in which to play out its Western drama. The game is intentionally slow paced, which some may find off-putting, but this pacing is designed to make you explore, take in the natural world, and discover the various secrets and encounters that are out in that wilderness.

This is not a game full of high-energy action every few minutes, but a slow, and often lonely, experience which captures the pathos of the decline of the frontier and the old west. Personally I have spent hours simply cantering around the world, greeting strangers, interacting with random events, and observing the wildlife, nothing more than me, my horse (named roach in reference to the Witcher 3) and the wild. It is visually stunning and weather effects and lighting can give even familiar areas a different atmosphere.

In the critical reviews there’s a lot of negative remarks about “spending most of the time riding” or “no fast travel”; I just don’t understand this criticism – Why would you not want to ride through remarkable scenery, encountering random things on the way, while heading to your mission? The hours spent riding through the world were probably the most immersive, most enjoyable experiences I’ve had in an open world game for many years. Without that riding, I would never have been ambushed by the O’Driscolls on my way back to valentine, never met a crazy old man who tried to steal my horse, never camped in the wilderness and been threatened by a couple of crazy rednecks, never found out about the secret history of a certain abandoned saloon.

If games are only about action for you, then avoid this; If they are about the experience then this game will provide you hundreds of hours of entertainment.

Adam
2.0 out of 5 stars Fun for a few days, but clunky controls and bland, slow game-play make for a dull game overall.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 9 November 2018

The game world Rockstar have created is incredible. It's vast, beautiful, dense with life and rich and detail. The lighting system is perfect, the graphics and animations better than anything I've seen in a game before. If I was rating this purely on visuals, it would be 5 stars.

But as it's a game, I need good gameplay, and that's where it all falls apart for me. It's a chore to do pretty much anything in this game. I played the game for two weeks but never really felt invested in how it turned out for Arthur or his gang, and having spent 90% of that time in game riding around on a horse just to get somewhere, I've finally sold the game and moved on to something fun.

Things that really bugged me:

- There's no point in levelling up. At all. You don't need better guns or more health or beat anyone

- Fast travel is almost pointless. You can fast travel to a town from camp, but then have to ride all the way back. That was the nail in the coffin for me, when I unlocked fast travel thinking I could just enjoy the story from then on, only to find it was pretty much pointless.

- Horrible, horrible control system. Slow, clunky, wildly inaccurate, just horrible

- So many slow un-skippable animation sequences for every little detail, that get repeated over and over again (looting, searching etc)

- Saving the game is a pain. You can't save mid mission at all, which is a pain because some of the missions are long, and more often than not I need to leave the game mid event, only to come back later to find the kids have loaded up another game to play and dumped my progress in the process. If I could save at any point, I would probably have kept the game and slogged through it.

- The story is pretty pointless - you know how it ends (RDR1) - and so other than sightseeing in the WIld West for a bit, I really didn't see any need to keep dragging my self through it for no real outcome.

As a point of contrast, I've just finished playing Breath of the Wild, and I was sad that ended. That was genuinely one of the best games I've played in decades. It's not as intricate or detailed as RDR2, but it's fun to play and there's a true sense of progressing through something and working towards a goal.

BOTW is beautiful and fun.
RDR2 is beautiful but dull.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sometimes, slower is better
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 November 2018

After reading some other reviews of this game, I really don't understand what people are saying.

Firstly, I don't find this game boring at all.

People complaining about having to ride around to different places was what you had to do in Red Dead Redemption 1, I can't see any difference.

Riding horses isn't as fast as getting around in GTA 5. Of course not. Horses are not as fast as cars, you should have already established that.

I am having a lot of fun playing this game. I personally like the slower story progression. The walking is a little slow but I don't think it's a problem at all. Rockstar have made a huge detailed beautiful world that is really interesting to explore around and an engaging story.

I'm not really a reviewer but I don't think any of the bad reviews are accurate at all but its up to you to decide.

2.0 out of 5 stars I guess I just didn't get it...
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 21 November 2018

OK, I know most people absolutely love this game, and I can see why, mostly..... but for me, it's just a bit, well, odd.
One minute I am pistol whipping a gentleman on a train to steal 50 cents and a horse tonic, and the next I have to undertake a mission to take a small boy on a fishing trip because he's bored. Next day I'm in a gun-battle with the local outlaws, and then I have to take a shave because my beard grew too long.... meanwhile my horse is "dirty" and so I have to stop and clean it, and my guns are also "dirty" and in need of a clean, but only if I buy or steal gun oil. All a bit tedious.
I'm sure it's me, but I just don't have enough time to play a game like this to its full potential. I found it boring after a while galloping from place to place to meet a character, only to have to gallop back to my original location to pass on a message or take on the next stage of the mission.
It's beautiful, yes, but just NOWHERE near Horizon: Zero Dawn in terms of graphical realism in my opinion; in fact, I was a little disappointed when I actually played the game for the first time. I was expecting a step-up in quality, but I think it's a step down.
I have tried hard with it, and have probably played for 20+ hours, expecting I would, in the end, "get it", but alas, I will have to concede defeat and move on.
All just my opinion of course, but that's what a review is for, right?

Unlike most reviews on here I've actually completed the game. It was a bittersweet moment. I waited 8 years for this but in the end I was disappointed.
Without sounding crude this game is like a "Bimbo". It looks great but there's no substance to it. Rockstar have chosen style over substance, there's a wonderful world to be explored but the gameplay, controls and movement in general are like something from the ps2 era.
The stories drags on and on, the controls are shocking. The pace of the game is laborious and I almost gave up after 15 hours. Having said that it's still addictive and I'm glad I completed it. The sad thing is, this could quite possibly have been the greatest game of all time, but unfortunately there are way too many flaws that hold it back.
It's like waiting 8 years to date someone, finding out she's beautiful but she's an annoying as hell.

2.0 out of 5 stars I tried to like this.....sadly failed
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 7 November 2018

I was looking forward to this game and maybe over hyped it in my own mind. I was expecting a masterclass of game design/gameplay and thought it would be the end of other games for a month or two. I tried to play this for a couple of six hour stints over the weekend and I just didn't even begin to enjoy it.

I couldn't control my guy and he seemed to be really sluggish and slow to respond to commands. He kept his arms at his side when he slid down an incline that was too steep to traverse - is he on ketamine?

I seemed to accrue bounties for riding around - or shooting my gun (not even at anyone as far as I could tell) which happens a lot as I tried but failed to get used to the controls. Searching draws and cabinets just seems overly complicated and surely could be accomplished with a single button press? Other games just seem slicker in comparison - maybe they are less 'realistic' but they are certainly more fun and hence maybe better 'games'. I didn't want a wild west simulator - I wanted a fun and immersive time. The voice acting is great and the graphics met (the high) expectations. For me the controls and the sluggish nature of the movement make this unplayable - just a personal opinion.

I have returned this for a refund which is a shame. It is a beautiful looking game but that is not enough for me - I need some fun from my games...guess I'm getting too old.
