How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings, help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.

5.0 out of 5 starsScenic places, mystery, history and romance . Another riveting read from Karen Swan
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 24 September 2020
Karen Swan is one of my favourite Authors. I always look forward to reading her books. She transports you to beautiful , scenic places , her writing is so descriptive. Her characters are believable and you can empathise with the situations . There are elements of mystery and nothing is ever quite as it seems. I don't know a great deal about auctions and tracing artwork so it was very interesting reading. I was totally involved in the compelling storyline and didn't want to put it down.

2.0 out of 5 starsDisappointing ...
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 15 June 2022
I have read several of Karen Swans books and enjoyed them very much. This was a good idea and a good subject to base a story on. Karen has done her research and it is well explained BUT ...the character of Flora is not convincing...the story becomes muddled with silly extras and it does not hang together well...I skim read a lot because it was just so unbelievable and frankly silly .I am sad to write a poor review but this is not Karens best work.I definitely do not recommend it .

So I mostly did not. Right from the beginning you are swept into the story of the Art World with its twist and turns and threaded into the story is romance, nothing is straight forward though. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and shall recommend it to my friends.

5.0 out of 5 stars Totally gripping

One of the things I admire about Karen Swan's books is the depth of knowledge fizzing beneath the surface, this one is no exception. There is a heartbreaking reality beneath the story . Her books have more 'story' in each chapter than many books have in their entirety, including this one.

It took me ages to get into this book. Not sure why but it just didn't grip me at first, but never to be outdone I plodded on regardless until 75% of the way it all seemed to fall into place, roll along nicely & then it was read non stop until finished, knowing full well what was going to happen but just wanting to be sure! The story was plausible, interesting & believable, the setting imaginable reading through the lines & the characters believable in their life styles. A world of art, auctions, antiques & heritage always make for good reading material. I did enjoy this & would read more of this author just to prove I wasn't mistaken.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Intriguing Story

I loved this story from beginning to end. Karen Swan is a brilliant author who spins a wonderful story line that just grabs your attention and keeps you spellbound.

This story is set in Paris in the world of art, it is full of intrigue and with twists and turns that keep you guessing all the way through. I loved the characters in this story. I became very drawn into their lives and their ups and downs, I loved and hated them in equal measure.

I would definitely recommend this as a great read, you won't want it to end.

I actually liked this book. The characters were interesting and the plot was acceptable. However it was a romance. To be fair I wouldn't leave it on the train for the next person as I enjoyed it. Not all trashy books are bad, to be honest.

Karen Swan is an author whose books I know I will always enjoy reading and this was no exception. It was a hard subject as it covers some aspects of World War II but sensitively done. I prefer some of her other books but I did enjoy this one.

3.0 out of 5 stars Unconvincing romance againt background about Nazi's stealing art from Jews during the war.

The modern romance of this story is unconvincing and spoils the interesting back story about the looting of art during the war. Too much talk about designer fashions and what shoes the characters are wearing.

I really liked this book and I found the part of the lost apartment really fascinating. The research into this book was really sympathetically done. Some very poignant parts in this book and I agree they are not always to read.
