Excellent product

These tablets do an excellent job on all my crockery, leaving no residue. My glass items always come out clean and sparkling, and I live in a very hard water area. I add salt separately to the dishwasher but no rinse aid. I use a 45-65° C auto programme.

These are not supposed to be all in one dishwasher tablets. Ecover sell those separately. If you use salt as well, you should have no problem.

This is what the Ecover website says about plastic wrapping:

‘We wrap each tablet because we need to protect them. They don’t react well to the moisture in the air as this causes them to crumble. We want you to open your box to find tablets, not powder, so we wrap each one. The wraps are made from polypropylene which is technically recyclable but unfortunately there aren’t the facilities to recycle them at the moment. We want to move away from using polypropylene and are actively researching alternative dissolvable films that meet our standards for biodegradability. Ecover was founded on the principle of ensuring biodegradability for any ingredient entering the water ways and we want to continue to stay true to this principle. We are investigating plant-based alternatives that are water soluble and biodegradable and are currently testing a couple of options. We’re not there yet but when we find an alternative we’re confident in, we will switch.‘

On animal testing:

‘All Ecover products are certified by the Leaping Bunny certification - the most trusted stamp of approval for not being tested in animals.’

It is only their parent company that tests on animals. Ecover themselves have always been a very good company. I have used their products since the 1980s.

Parent company testing on animals

Disappointed that Ecover are now owned by a brand that openly test on animals. I won’t be buying their products again. This is poor for a eco brand. Also these tablets have quite a strong chemical smell and the cleaning is pretty average.

After years of using Finish and (shamefully, as I was repeatedly told) other 'non-eco' brands, I succumbed and bought these Ecover Classic tablets. I wanted to 'do the right thing' in buying eco-products but I am put off by their - in my experience - limited efficacy, notably Ecover's own washing-up liquid which seems to run out very quickly. However, these dishwasher tablets made a mess of anything glass or plastic and left a chalky film inside the dishwasher. I now have 68 tablets left in the box and wonder whether they can be used for cleaning the patio or for school blackboards. If Ecover read this I'd happily accept a refund although I assume I have no legal right to one!
I suggest that anyone thinking of buying a big box of these samples them first if they can.

We were using eco dishwasher liquid with Ecover rinse aid but, when trying to get more liquid, two separate orders were cancelled and refunded (strangely, after receiving advice that they'd shipped). We couldn't get eco liquid locally so thought we'd give eco tablets a try. Switching the dishwasher to tablet mode and, well, we'll not go back to liquid. Previously, there would always be one or two items that hadn't cleaned properly; not now as everything comes out ready to be put straight away in drawers and cupboards. Never need to pre-rinse (any food scraps get scraped into the food recycling bin). Even cooking crockery with baked-on food (lasagne or a fruit crumble, for example) comes out clean, without needing a pre-soak in the sink. And, I should add, that’s all using the default eco mode on our dishwasher (a 4-hour cycle that includes a pre-soak, low temperature wash, and dry).
Haven’t tried the all-in-one tablets; we use the Ecover rinse-aid. No salt needed as we’re in a soft water area - perhaps that’s one reason why they work so well for us and not others.
Would be good if Ecover could find an alternative to the individual plastic wrappings as they're not recyclable through our normal doorstep collection; perhaps a starch-based plastic that could go via the food waste?

I wanted to like this product because we’ve used this brand of washing up liquid for years and it’s AWESOME but these, I’m so sorry to have to say… are awful. After only three washes our plates, cups, glasses and bowls were coming out of the dishwasher totally unusable, covered in a chalky, white layer of stuff… I tried putting a cycle on again before unloading with no tablet to see if it would rinse things off and it helped abit but still not ideal. Very disappointing.

We've been using these since we got our first dishwasher last year and have been happy with the performance. I've used on our Eco wash setting on the dishwasher (55c) and rarely do we see items come out requiring further cleaning. It does seem a little ironic that this brand which trades on being environmentally friendly wraps each tab in plastic which can't be recycled, I've knocked a star off for that. Also, it's a shame that Amazon used to sell at a decent price but no longer seem to sell these, they're now cheaper at the supermarket where offers are generally on the 25 packs

Must bbe used with soft/softened water

We use these as they are better for the environment. They are not 'all in one' but just detergent. We have a water softener, so just add rinse aid & the dw tablets. If you have hard water you must use dw salt or buy the 'all in one' version Ecover make. It doesn't have as much bleach in it as Finish or other unfriendly to the environment dw tabs, so if I have stained plastic chopping boards, I bleach them first before washing. We find they clean fine, but we don't put dishes in caked with grease and food - we wipe them with kitchen towel first - grease in your drains is bad news!

Your colours will stay nice and bright

I am using Ecover tabs because all the other big brand's will bleach the colours of mugs and plates. Your colours will stay nice and bright. Also I can not stand the strong scent of the other brands. Again this is not the case here. I would have given it 5* but sadly I have to agree with other users that after a while the glasses came out with a white film. I have completely solved this problem by using Finish Sparkle rinse aid. I used to have a cheap supermarket own brand before. Brilliant result and hopefully still a little bit better for the environment.
