Anything to keep the gendarmerie happy!

These breathalysers are almost twice the price of similar products on Amazon. However, they do have the distinct advantage of being NF certified which should keep our chums in the French gendarmerie happy if we are stopped...

At just £5, its not worth taking any risks and, these are so much cheaper than at the ferry terminals or your friendly local rip-off automotive retailer.

These ones are dated until May 2022 so will probably gather dust in the back of the glove box until then. At which point, I will bin these, buy some replacements and the whole saga will start again....

I have just ordered these and found that I can’t buy one pack of two, I have to buy two packs. OK I accepted this. Now they have arrived -13 August 2021. I discover that the expiry date is September 2021, i.e.they only have about six weeks of life. It appears that others have had a two year life on their purchases. This is obviously old stock, so proceed with caution. I have taken this up with the supplier and await their response.

Been buying these for a few years now...
Obviously for travelling in France (even though when we did go, we invariably ate & drank in the hotel we stayed at or within walking distance so drinking and driving was never really on the cards.
BUT to comply with French law, always good to keep a couple of tests in the car.
I now use these when in the UK.
As a retired traffic officer I know drink driving is NOT good.
However, to be sociable, enjoying a VERY moderate drink is no real problem and these ensure that
a) you are not a risk to others (& yourself) and
b) you are within the law.
REMEMBER, Scottish regulations are more stringent than in England!
If in doubt, don't drink & drive.

There is speculation online that the law requiring motorists to carry these kits whilst driving through France was scrapped completely from January 2020. Even before that, it was generally accepted that the law was not being enforced. We have driven through France, Belgium and Germany on numerous occasions and have never been asked to produce one. Our relationship with the laws of Europe however, might change significantly in the near future, so until I see official confirmation that this requirement has been removed I intend to carry one. When you consider the other kit you need to carry and the other costs of driving in Europe, saving £5 is not my highest priority.

Read the instructions! Relatively straightforward but make sure you read the instructions. I don't drive much the 'morning after' but handy to have a pack of these around just in case . I 've never had an over the limit result from them I think that says more about my paranoia as a driver than the accuracy of the device but I might need to try it after a heavy session just to reassure myself its would catch me if I was over .

Essential part of driving in France

Our family are skiing during the February half-term and are travelling by car through France. We're always unsure whether it's a legal requirement to carry a breathalyser but have heard stories that the French police had a habit of stopping cars and fining the driver if they didn't have an NF certified breathalyser. Furthermore, for those that did, the police would make them use the breathalyser and then stop them again to see if they had a spare. Rumours, such as this, probably help perpetuate the sale of breathalysers but these have become a staple part of our kit each year. Each pack contains two breathalysers. The most recent pack (delivered in January 2020) had a use-by-date of October 2021, which meant they could be used again next year. However, I tend to pass them on to my oldest son so he can check his limit before driving home the morning after a party. Peace of mind at a very reasonable price.

Not sure how to review this product. It is French NF certified which is why I chose it instead of multi use electronic alcohol detectors. Knowing what overseas officials can be like, it's best to take no chances when laws have to be complied with. I have not used it, and probably never will as I do not drive if I've had a drink. I already have two out of date ones from the same company, never been used for the same reason. By the same token, I cannot vouch for the accuracy, though the supporting paperwork indicates a very high level of accuracy. I have no reason to disbelieve these claims as a reputable company dare not mislead it's customers, and by doing so put them in a situation where they might get be committing a criminal act.

Well, there's been a lot of confusion over the past 5 year about the need to carry these. At the current time there's no fine so I won't be bothering again until France has sorted itself out in this respect. See below links....

However, I've given these a 5 star rating because I've tried them out against a calibrated tester and they work within the limits that are indicated on the box, so for me they do exactly what they should. Whether you choose to buy them is, of course, your choice........I used mine to check on a couple of morning after readings which might surprise you if you've had a late night.....may buy a few more just for that!

These arrived promptly and had a good expiry date on them, nearly two years. Many will know that, whilst it is a legal requirement to have available two of these breathalysers, the fine for not having them has been suspended indefinitely. My own view is that for such a small amount of money it is worth having them so as not to annoy the French Police unnecessarily if you do happen to be stopped for a spot check.

Bought this product as I have an upcoming trip through France very soon. After reading up on what was required to be able to legally drive through France it became clear that a breathalyser kit was required......but not just any breathalyser kit. Every article I looked at emphasised that it had to be NF Certified otherwise the French police wouldn’t accept it. Having read up on AlcoSense it made total sense that this was the right product to keep me on the right side of the law in France. Don’t be fooled by some slightly cheaper versions. You could end up in big trouble by trying to save a few pennies. At £5.99 for 2 buy the correct legal product and have trouble free motoring through France. A reasonable price for the right product. No complaints. Delivery free and very quick. Highly recommended.
