How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings, help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.

5.0 out of 5 starsA bargain.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 14 December 2017
A bargain. Given the low price I thought that this pump might not be much use. Wrong. True it is quite loud, you would not want to be using it under a neighbours window at 3.00 in the morning but is effective. It inflated a 16 x 205 tyre from 20 psi to 30 psi in about 2 minutes and checked against 3 different types of pressure gauges I found the built in gauge to be accurate within 1 psi (ish) certainly close enough for safety. I have not used a screw on air line in the past always preferring the lever clamp type and I thought there might be a considerable amount of air loss when attaching or removing, I was wrong again. Overall this is a very good piece of kit, yes it is quite loud and and being analogue you have to monitor the pressure as it cannot be preset to cut off at programmed pressure, but for the money it cant be beaten.

1.0 out of 5 starsLooked great ... lovely and compact .. just didn't work
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 13 July 2018
Having read the reviews which where mostly 5 star with a few 1 stars, I decided to go for it. The unit is nice and compact and looks so easy to use. I knew that I had at least one tyre that needed air so when my inflator arrived I was mad keen to give it a go. I felt like a right eejit in my front garden when I attached it to a tyre, plugged it in, turned on the ignition, pressed the power button and ........ complete silence. I did the usual troubleshooting (ignition off and back on, unplug and re-plug, power off and power on) but couldn't get a peep out of it. I did manage to get a pressure reading off all four tyres but not a bit of air. Disappointed to say the least. Thanks goodness for Amazon who gave a no-quibble refund.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not calibrated properly... CHECK THIS BEFORE USING! Hard tyres are dangerous...
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 28 December 2018

Given the price the item is well packaged and of average mainly plastic construction.
However, despite being relatively easy to connect to the tyre valve the big problem is INACCURATE PSI measurements.
I over-inflated my tyres on my Hyundai Getz very easily and after checking with a local ASDA air inflation pump, found this unit to be measuring more than 6 psi over. I READ THE GAUGE ON THE UNIT, completely wrong!
Not good, I'm putting in 36 psi when it should only be 30!
HOW IS IT THIS UNTI CANNOT BE CALIBRATED AT THE FACTORY!?
This is a potentially dangerous situation and as we're not generally all checking our tyres daily I could not tell for some weeks that the ride was hard and not 'right'.
I now have a newer Kia Venga, I have the unit still, but want to know how I can get it's analogue scale corrected to compensate CORRECTLY for an accurate tyre pressure reading!?
Surely it should be sold CORRECTLY CALIBRATED!?

5.0 out of 5 stars It Works

Was a bit worried as it seemed to cheap to be effective. But it's brilliant. I have n old Volvo Estate which must weigh a ton and the front tyre was down to about 10psi when it should be 30. Unpacked the pump and unwound the cable, nice and long, will reach all the tyres, the basic adaptor just screws onto the valve and stays there. The pressure gauge registers the current pressure so I know it is attached, hit the start button and about 5 minutes later it is up to pressure. Job done. Wish I had bought it before now. Beats queuing at the garage waiting for someone who has never inflated a tyre before and is faffing about.

Avoid.

Only used a couple of times and stopped working.

Press yellow button and nothing happens - doesn't turn on.

Only had for 6 months but unable to get replacement (what happened to a 12 month guarantee?)

4.0 out of 5 stars A bit noisy but so far, so good

[UPDATE 6 Nov 2020. Unless there is a problem, this will be my final update as the pump is now more than a year old. The latest lockdown prompted me to check the tyre pressures. All of them had lost a few pounds so I used the pump again. All was well and the pump was used to restore the pressure on all eight tyres without missing a beat. If it wasn't so noisy and fiddly to attach to the valve, I would give it 5 stars]
[UPDATE 12 Jan 2020. I tried the pump again today. Although none of tyres really needed to be 'topped up', I decided to pump them up a bit anyway. The pump worked fine and is now three months old. I will check again in 3 to 6 months. Original review and updates follow...]
[Update 15 Dec 2019. I tried the pump again today. Even though they didn't really need it, I decided to add a couple of PSI to each of the tyres on both cars. The pump worked fine. I would say it took about 1 min to add 2 PSI. Original review follows...]
[UPDATE 31 Oct 2019. I checked the tyres on the other car today and they all needed 'pumping up'. The front tyres needed about 10PSI each which took about 3 min per wheel. The pump worked flawlessly.
Original review follows...]
Every few months, I like to check the tyre pressures on the cars. That is all well and good but what do you do when one of the tyres has actually got a bit low and needs pumping up? I used to use a foot pump but recently came to the conclusion that this was far too much effort and takes too long when an electric pump would do the same job in a fraction of the time. The only trouble was that pumps provided with the cars are usually hidden away in a compartment in the boot and it is a bit bit of a 'faff' getting them out and putting them away afterwards.
My solution was to buy a pump that I could keep in the garage and would be easy to get out, use and put away.
I didn't want to spend too much on something that was really just a testament to my laziness but after reading several reviews on several devices, I decided to try the Ring RAC 610.
Because it screws on to the tyre valve, it is a bit fiddly to attach and it does need to be quite tight to stop any air escaping. When in use, it did also strike me as quite noisy - not pneumatic drill levels but it would be very difficult to have a conversation while it is going. Fortunately, it only took about a minute or so to add about 4 PSI (which would have taken about 10 minutes with my old foot pump).
The gauge did not seem particularly accurate - it was showing about 30PSI when my other gauges were showing 34. However as I always double check the pressures with a second gauge, this wasn't a particular issue for me but I wouldn't rely on the built in gauge if it is your only way of checking the pressure.
All in all, in spite of the above, I still think this is a good pump for the money. My main concern is that some of the other reviewers have said that their pumps stopped working after a few uses. So, I will try to make an effort to use it every month over the winter and then update this review.
In the meantime, I think 4 stars is a fair rating

1.0 out of 5 stars Lasted one year (used about 12 times)
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 15 June 2019

I tend not to write reviews in the first few months of buying something and this purchase demonstrates why. The pump worked fine except I didn't like the screw thread attachment which was fiddly and quite stiff so when you tried to attach it to the wheel the whole pipe tended to twist rather than just the fitting. I probably use this once a month max but yesterday my friend's tyre was 20psi down so I offered to pump it up. Just as the pressure reached the correct level the pump stopped working. I thought it may have over heated so left it for an hour to try again however it was dead. I don't know if this pump isn't designed for long pressurisations - it would probably be fine for just topping up your tyres a few psi as usual - but again for this price I'm not really surprised are you ?
