Heartstopping

Got hooked on the Netflix show and I needed to know more about the characters. This short story had me crying on my lunch break reading it. It just brought up so many memories and feelings from that time in my own life. I don’t think I’ve ever cried reading a book before, it’s not a sad read but the way it’s written just hit me. All of those awkward Christmas dinners summed up so well. Wish I’d had a Nick back then to be honest. I’m writing this as a 32yr old living a happy life, there’s just something about this that takes me back to being that age that no other book has ever done. Highly recommend the other heartstopper books too, they got me too!

The quality is actually so awful on this as Amazon seem to be printing their own copies which are 100% inferior to the real ones. Don’t waste your money, I’m sending the ones I’ve ordered back to get them from somewhere that’s more reliable.

This was hard to read, I’m glad that Heartstopper is lighter and happier because it means so much to people but it’s easy to forget what Charlie has really been through. How his family react to his sexuality and mental health is so frustrating but honest. Oliver is a gem that we do not deserve and Tori is such a great big sister that I wish she was mine.
TW for mental health, self harm, eating disorders - Nick is also just best boy...Love hip I’m so much.

Reasonable story though a bit short (for the cost) to me it wasn't as good as 'Nick and Charlie' - its still wroth a read, especially if you are following the excellent story of the two young lovers but this one felt even more rushed than Nick & Charlie... maybe its the move from graphic novel format to novella, maybe I'm just older than the intended audience but either way for me this one felt a little weaker than the others.. maybe my expectations were too high because it is still good story.

Illustrated throughout, an easy festive read with the characters we have come to adore. However, it may not be quite the perfect Christmas Charlie hoped for while he still struggles with his eating disorder.

I could read about these characters all day. Beautiful story. Beautiful bonds. Loved it. Going to miss these lot. A well deserved four stars from me. Highly recommend.

Every book gives more life to these characters, the small details, the drawings, the written gestures that suddenly come to life. Alice is a genius in my books, it has been a long time that I feel so attach to a story, to a world that is too real and at the same time top good to be true... how can you achieve both? She does... and I think it is a reflection of real life. Obviously Nick and Charlie's love is a nostalgia for me of the past, what it has been and what it could have been. This is a perfect Xmas episode in this world she has created. It could not have been any other way...

I've recently read all four volumes of Heartstopper and just finished the Nick and Charlie novella, so obviously I needed a little bit more Nick and Charlie in my life. I wasn't sure what to expect from "This Winter", but I can honestly say that it doesn't have any business being as good as it is!!!

I think it is actually now my favourite work by Alice Oseman and that's a high standard to reach, as I absolutely love all of her other works that I've read!!! "This Winter" manages to tell a slightly heartbreaking, but all too relatable Christimas story including heavy-topics like mental health troubles and navigating difficult family dynamics around the holidays but in a warm, accessible and totally captivating way.

The story being written from Tori, Charlie and Oliver's perspectives is really charming and fleshes out their Christmas Day in a way that I couldn't have otherwise imagined possible! The Nick and Charlie parts are also as endearing as ever but so are the parts centred around the Spring and Nelson families respectively! I would wholeheartedly recommend "This Winter" to any Heartstopper or Alice Oseman fan!! :)
