How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings, help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.

5.0 out of 5 starsAmazing book but ….

As always this book is truly brilliant!!! Such a good writer, his characters are so real and Damien really puts you there, edge is your seat wow!!! My only gripe… why on earth do people give the author one star feedback because the thought this was a kindle and can’t turn the pages? Really annoys me this author spends months writing for us, all that work and someone puts a downer on it because it’s a paperback! FEEDBACK is your thoughts on the story and what you think of it not because you didn’t read the description and bought a paperback instead of kindle. Moan over!

3.0 out of 5 starsBit of a disappointment
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 26 July 2022
I have read all of Damien Boyds books in this series. However although I am local to Somerset and know all about the carnival circuit, this is the first Nixon book that was disappointing. Felt it was tied up very quickly at the end, no thrills or tension. Nick is becoming more and more monosyllabic, abrupt and lacking manners, hardly ever says please or thank you! If I was Jane I’d give him a talking too 😂 No this one was different. Lacking the excitement of the earlier novels in the series. Shame.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exciting, fast-paced, another excellent Nick Dixon story

Nick Dixon is a nice chap, honest, brave, and exceedingly good at detecting. I think this book 12 is the best one yet (although maybe I think that about each volume as it becomes available). My only caveat is the endings are too rushed: crime solved, criminal/s apprehended, no extra page to relax and enjoy the moment. I wanted to read just a little bit about the Professional Standards duo feeling just a little embarrassed!

A great read, with Nick under suspicion of murder, everyone’s favourite people to hate (estate agents), police’s favourite people to hate (Professional Standards Department) and a sprinkling of Albanians. Fast-paced, great sleuthing. Thoroughly enjoyable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another winner that keeps you guessing.

Another thrilling read from Damien Boyd, that keeps you guessing right till the very end.
Being able to picture many of the places, as well as knowing how spectacular Bridgwater carnival is, brings an extra, nostalgic, bonus to this book for me. This aside, the Nick Dixon series never fails to please. Carnival Blues, like all the other books in the series keeps you totally invested in both characters and storylines. I managed to wait a few days before starting to read this latest instalment, but once I begun, I just couldn’t put it down. Now begins the wait for whatever comes next for Nick, Jane and Monty. It can’t come soon enough!

Exactly the standard that I have come to expect from this author. Fast paced with well developed characters and a killer who is easy to overlook in a situation with more than its fair share of red herrings.

Again the twist & turns keep you guessing until the end, there is always an unexpected twist which you try to figure out but fail. I have enjoyed reading another chapter of Nick Dixon 's life & hope there wlil be another one. I am always a little sad when I come to the end of a Damien Boyd book so fingers crossed it won't be to long before the next installment.

I find it hard to criticize as the book is well paced, keeps you engaged & the the background life of Nick & Jane is a great human element but not an over sentimental one.

I could read it in a day but force myself to stretch it out over a week as I know we will have to wait sometime for the next book.

Thanks again to Damien for a great book - please keep writing & quickly I want to know if it's a boy or a girl.

An enthralling tale where the burglar that attempted to rob Nixon a year earlier died. It appears that his actions at the time are now being looked at as excessive force. The tale unfolds through different murders that Nixon was not guilty but was being framed by an Albanian gang. Will he make it to his wedding and birth of hi baby without getting into more trouble. I wait to see

Just when I think Damien Boyd's books cannot get any better, along comes Carnival Blues. Read it in 1 day, could not put it down. Now to wait for the next one.

I have read all the Nick Dixon books and enjoyed them but this one is, I think, his best. Jane Winter seems to have a reduced role in this book but it is nice to see all the familiar names.

I have lived in Bridgwater for a long time, so it is an extra pleasure to find roads and places I know.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning, as always!

Damien has not disappointed with his latest addition to the Nick Dixon series! Gripped from start to finish - at several points actually feeling enraged at what was happening in the book, as if I was reading Nick's diary more than a work of fiction!! As the pace gathers, my reading speed increases, my inability to put it down increases as it reaches its ultimate climax in a truly satisfying manner! If you like crime novels then this book is definitely for you - not gory or gruesome but beautifully descriptive dragging you in to their world, drawing on real places with what feels like only the smallest amount of poetic licence used! A definite must read along with the other 11! Time to start reading the series from book 1 again!
