I'm so disappointed though after a week of trying them out I have to say they are a real downgrade on the first version. It's really not often that tech products go backwards but I feel this really is the case with these.
Sound isolation is worse because of the vented system but also ANC is also worse, the originals had fantastic noise cancelling and I couldn't hear anything from traffic to airplanes but these let through so much noise it really broke my immersion.
The fit in my ear is also worse, after trying them with and without wingtips they either fell out or were uncomfortable to wear for even short durations. This was with moving then about in my ear to get comfy
The originals I could keep in for hours without wingtips and never had to adjust them once.
I wasnt impressed with the music quality of the buds 2 even adjusting the EQ in the app to boost base it never got to the same quality as the originals! How is that possible!
Last the touch controls are awful another backwards step. Slow to respond, often incorrect inputs and no distinction between left and right ears control. again the buds 1 (by no means perfect for touch) have these beat with different tap controls that can be assigned to each eat to better customise my experience.
The only slight improvement is the case which is smaller and has USBC but definitely not enough to make it worth switching... I'll be sticking to the buds 1 sorry Amazon
They feel nice and light in the ear and are so far, more comfortable than the old ones. The Bluetooth range seems to be as good as the 1st gen and the Bluetooth pickup from removing from the case and placing in the ear seems a lot faster as well. The old ones always had a bit of a delay to register.
Downside I've noticed is the noise cancelling doesn't seem to be as effective as the noise reduction on the 1st gen or not as much of a noticeable difference. I work in a noisy environment and i can still quite easily hear the background noise. After a few seconds it seems to block out voice quite sufficiently.
The audio passthrough works just as well as the 1st gen and sounds quite natural. I also like the new touch controls as they've added a play and pause tap as well as skip tracks and changed the passthrough/ANC gesture to a long press.
2 issues I've found so far is that Alexa only announces about 2 out of 10 times that I've changed from one mode to the other when I long press which can be confusing when your listening to music.
The other issue is that the Alexa app seems to be jamming in the bud controls and if you try to go into equaliser I get a permanent loading screen.
Battery life seems to be a lot worse than the 1st gen even with ANC turned off so will need more testing to confirm.
All in all I am impressed with the upgrade but so far do t see much different in noise suppression. Definitely a better cleaner sound however. The USB C is definitely a nice change as well.
