Yes you can. The device its gonna ask you to create a child profile when first started but you can easily remove it from your account and use it as a normal kindle

It is not locked. You create a kids profile first, then you can exit it from the menu and use the kindle as normal adult account.
You can return to kids profile anytime later. Bear in mind, to sideload books, e.g. books in languages not available in Amazon, you have to exit kids profile. This Kindle is not visible to… see more

Video could not be loaded
You can adjust the brightness & warmth of the screen. Can also go into dark mode so the colours are inverted ( background black & white writing ). Font wise, there’s 9 styles, can make the whole book in bold up to size 5 & the sizes goes up to 14! Attached is the video with everything in max just to give you an idea.

I have also adjusted the age range on the settings so that there is a bottom age as well as too to try and reduce the younger content in suggestions.
