I guess you have to find the instructions. It should tell you how to use it. These tablets can be used without rinse aid I guess if you haven't a separate compartment for it

They have plastic wrappers but you don’t remove them, they just dissolve.

I think the intention is that you don't, but we are in an area that has very hard water so we use salt as well.Have a look in your dishwasher manual as it may recommend one way or the other.
