2. Does this device detect mould?
The Amazon Smart Air Quality Monitor detects elements that can contribute to or result from mould growth, including Humidity, Particulate Matter (PM 2.5) and Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs).
3. What is Particulate Matter (PM 2.5) and what does it entail?
The Amazon Smart Air Quality Monitor measures Particulate Matter that is between 0.3 µm and 2.5 µm in diameter. Particulate matter (PM 2.5) is a mixture of dust particles, dirt and liquid droplets suspended in the air. PM is reported in micrograms per cubic meter (*µg/m³). PM can be directly emitted from wind-blown dust, mould spores, pollen and wildfires. PM found indoors may include particles that have migrated from outdoor sources like pollen or dirt and have originated from indoor sources like dusting, pet dander, hoovering, burning candles, cooking, use of fireplaces or smoking.
4. What are Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) and what do they entail?
Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) are a variety of chemicals that easily evaporate into the air at room temperature. The total VOCs are reported as a relative change in intensity on a scale of 1 to 100. VOCs evaporate into the air we breathe from a wide array of sources. Common sources of VOCs in the home can range from the aroma of citrus fruits or scented candles to paints, cleaning supplies, pesticides, building materials and furnishings, office equipment such as printers, craft materials, such as glues, markers and a variety of cosmetic products.
5. Does this device detect Radon or CO2?
The Amazon Smart Air Quality Monitor does not measure Carbon Dioxide (CO2) or Radon. This device detects and reports on 5 components of air quality, including: Particulate Matter (PM 2.5), Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), Carbon Monoxide (CO), Humidity and Temperature.
6. For how long does the device calibrate after setup?
You can check your indoor air quality score in the Alexa app after the initial 7-minute calibration is completed. The device will then take up to 2 days to adjust to the surrounding environment. If you unplug your device, the device will go through the 7-minute calibration again.
7. Where can I access my indoor air quality dashboard?
You can access your indoor air quality dashboard by using the latest Alexa mobile app as well as asking your Echo Show, “Alexa, how’s the indoor air quality?” For additional assistance, you can reach our support team by selecting ‘Help & Feedback’ under the More tab of your Alexa app.
8. Where can I go for additional help?

All that is available to trigger on is temperature, just like all the third party devices also seem to only do. I'm not sure if this is just currently missing - but planned - functionality, broken functionality, or it is just functionality that isn't ever going to be offered. Right now though it is a very expensive, albeit discrete, duplicate temperature monitor and is likely going straight back. And that actually is a shame, because what is on the app itself is fantastic.
It takes 2 days of running to configure itself and become acclimatised.
The onboard led indicates good/bad air quality it can be switched off.
It doesn't have it's own speaker so don't talk to it.
So I like to think I know a lot about temperature and humidity.
Firstly it's accurate, I have a flir thermal imaging camera as well as other temp/humidity sensors and this is accurate. But then so is the pack of 6 thermometer/humidity sensors I bought for £5 from Amazon.
I bought this to manage humidity to switch on the dehumidifier, alas this doesn't let you create a routine for humidity or anything else apart from temperature! Wtf..
I thought this was a smart device!
You might as well buy a cheaper unit if all you are interested in is humidity and temperature.
The other sensors like VOC are great at getting an idea of when you need to open a window, like after cleaning the toilet with chemicals but I suppose common sense is cheaper.
Not having routines for VOC, humidity etc means this can't trigger a filter, dehumidifier, purifier so what exactly is the point?
I have an echo show and getting to the screen to see your room air quality is arduous and looking at it on your phone takes about 5 clicks too many.
Once you have the dash on the Alexa it's great, but if you can't do anything smart with the data via automation then what have I wasted my money on?
Until it's able to run routines against all the sensors I wouldn't bother.
Overall after using it for 2 days, it seems to track vocs accurately enough for me to take notice as well as the other metrics.
Would still think that there is room for the app to improve and perhaps the ability to analyse the data points better in time would be helpful for insights into what times vocs\pms surge in the house and why, but I'm just glad that Amazon decided to do this properly, good start.
Ideally would prefer to have one in each room but money matters, feel it's still a tad bit too expensive for what it's worth currently
Really the only way to do it is through the Alexa app, but the layout of that app means it takes at least a few taps to get to, and potentially a bit of scrolling too. Using an Echo Show might be better except - on the latest Echo Show 5 at least - there doesn't seem to be any way to display this at all at the time of writing.
That's especially bad since Amazon advertises that you can, and I specifically bought one for that purpose (because the app is so rubbish). So presumably either this will come as a software update (and therefore shouldn't be advertised yet) or it's already an option but is so comically unintuitive that I can't find it despite digging through every menu and trying voice controls.
When you do finally get to the details in the app they are at least quite nicely laid out, and come with information on the various things it's detected and on what to do about them. So there's a lot of potential here, but Amazon really needs to make it play better with the app and other hardware.
