When Amazon announced the new Kindle Paperwhite, having had my previous model for around eight years, I decided to upgrade. As with my last purchase, I bought the official Amazon leather case. The Kindle is a premium device and my previous leather case added to that premium feel. The new case has clearly been made with far less care. The shell on my old version was a rubber-coated plastic. On the new case, the shell is just plastic. This thin plastic does not feel anywhere near as nice to hold and feels as though it may crack or smash if dropped. On my old case, the leather was stitched and had a slightly tactile spriginess. On the new case, the leather is glued onto more plastic. Again, it just feels rubbish. The only minor improvement with the new case is the microfibre cloth on the inner cover. (Though in fairness, I never had any issues with the fabric cover on my previous version). It disappoints me that Amazon's own leather case now seems to have declined in quality, to such a degree that a third-party case or sleeve is likely to be my prefered option. I will be returning this case after submitting this review.

Really disappointing purchase. I have pre-ordered the Kindle Signature so thought I’d go for a good quality case. I have the leather case for an older Kindle which is really nice, yet this is nothing like it. I genuinely thought I’d been sent the wrong one because I’m struggling to believe this is actually leather. But I suppose it must be. However it just feels and looks like hard plastic. I showed my friend who said the same. Anyway I wouldn’t recommend this at all.

I really like the colour of this cover, and appreciate the fact that the lining on the inside is the same wine red as the rest of the cover rather than black or grey, but I'm not impressed by this Kindle case at the price point.
The cover is leather-coated at the front, and has a plastic tray that acts as a holder for the device at the back. The tray has cut outs running right the way along the top and bottom edges of the device. This means that the power button and charging port on the bottom edge of the device are always accessible – but the extent of the cut-outs leaves quite a lot of the device exposed. This doesn't offer great protection.
The leather is a thin layer of textured leather over the front of the case. It’s not the nicest feeling leather ever, kind of plasticky, but the texturing does help to make this anti-slip. The edges of the front cover are sealed with a sort of rubbery coating – and if this behaves like the seal on previous generations of Kindle cases I have owned, over time will start to peel off. The cover folds over easily for one-handed reading, if this is how you like to hold your device, but doesn’t feel floppy if you prefer to hold this opened outwards book-like. The front cover isn’t padded, but has a soft-textured microfibre lining. This generally seems a drop in quality versus the cases to accompany the previous generation of Paperwhite.
Auto wake works as it should.
Pros
- Good, secure fitting tray
- Nice colour
- Anti-slip texturing
Cons
- Price point
- The excessive amount of the device left exposed by cut-outs in the holder tray
- Quality less good than previous generation cases

I really like the colour, but for the quality the price point is not justified

I am shocked at how poor quality this cover is. I would not even find it acceptable if it had cost a tenth of what it does. It is very clearly made of cheap plastic but the worst part is that holding the Kindle with the cover open is very unpleasant and uncomfortable – it is bad enough that the way the cover flips around makes it a bit awkward to hold but what really makes it horrible is the sharp edges of the plastic which feel almost like you can cut yourself on them.
The old original Amazon leather cover for my 2014 Paperwhite was great. This is a disaster.
Returned straight away.

As it’s new kindle 6.8inch screen I had to get new cover and this is only one on amazon
Firstly it was quite expensive compared to the. €15 one I previously bought for my old 6inch kindle
This is suppose to be leather but it’s hard plastic with I mean the tinyest leather on outside you would not even think was there
My old one is a thick leather with hard plastic vase inside to hold and has more support for kindle dropping and holding
This one I feel will not protect kindle if falls and has no grin to hold and the price quite expensive . As soon as cheaper better quality come available I will buy new one as this one I don’t trust and is very over priced

I bought the kindle . So I needed a new cover for it. I had a leather one on my old kindle which was fantastic quality , so I decided to get the newer version of the one I had . when it arrived I was shocked at the absolute low quality of the new cover. It’s cheaply made it doesn’t fully cover the kindle , and it’s got sharp edges.it’s expensive too . Shame on you Amazon for cutting down on quality . Definitely would not recommend.

I was very unsure about buying this case due to the poor reviews and yes, I'm a bit fussy. Like some others I've just bought the new 11th kindle and wanted a decent case for it. I took the plunge to buy it and see, if not happy then I'd return it. Well, it is really smart, decent, well made and to be honest much better quality than the genuine Kindle case for my previous Voyage. I simply cannot see what people are complaining about apart from maybe being £5 overpriced.
