~ YORK NOTES ~ RAPID REVISION CARDS

The set of RAPID REVISION CARDS are presented in a colourful cardboard box that is cellophane sealed. Inside the pack of cards are also cellophane sealed, which is a little tricky to get into without damaging a card, in my experience, and would benefit from a tear strip.
Each numbered card measures around 7.25 cm x 10.5 cm with rounded corners.
Interspersed with little pictures, they are well laid out, but the text is generally on the small side throughout, IMO.
Three of the cards are slightly longer, standing out in a bright yellow, to sort your thoughts about each topic into:
~ Sorted!
~ Getting there
~ Needs more work
The CONTENTS card is up next with the colour coded sections, namely:
~ PLOT AND STRUCTURE (Cards 1-9)
~ SETTING AND CONTEXT (Cards 10-14)
~ CHARACTERS (Cards 15-22)
~ THEMES (Cards 23-29)
~ LANGUAGE (Cards 30-32)
…with each sub-divided into topics.
Each section finishes with QUICK TEST & THINK MORE DEEPLY challenges.
The last 2 sections are:
~ EXAM PRACTICE (CARDS 33-45), …with lots of advice.
~ LAST-MINUTE REVISION (CARDS 46-55)
The next two cards give ideas on HOW TO USE THE CARDS, including a GROUP REVISION GAME & HOW BEST TO USE YOUR LAST-MINUTE REVISION CARDS, e.g. if you have 5 minutes/10 minutes/30 minutes/ 60 minutes.
Then it is straight into the 'Plot & Structure' cards.
In the main sections, the ANSWERS are on the back of the cards, with LEARN & THINK areas drawing the eye.
In the LAST-MINUTE REVISION section, the answers to any questions asked are upside down at the bottom of the relevant card.

Although you get three cards to split them up – Sorted! Getting There and Needs More Work, I was a bit nonplussed they were all the same colour. I thought that red, yellow and green would have been more practical, so you could identify them more easily. A good idea, not followed through. The cards cover Plot and Structure, Setting and Context, Characters, Themes, Language, Exam Practice and Last-Minute Revision (these are colour coded). There are some good ideas on how to use the cards – including group revision games and ideas for activities for different times – from five minutes to an hour. Overall, good quality and a great activity if you have a few minutes to spare.
This particular set of revision cards are for the AQA exam body and should only be used with the AQA English-lit exam.
What we most found helpful about these cards is that my son was able to maximise any down time such as travelling to and from school. I would also then flash the odd card at him before and after our evening meals.
The cards have a mixture of images and text, that prompts the user to expand on specific themes such characters, plot, etc.
My son acheived a B+ in his mock exam result and an overall A-. The cards were certainly helpful as he said he was far better prepared than he otherwise would have been.
The cards are really well presented with different colours for topics, characters, plot, story structure and everything else you need to understand for the exam. The York Notes An Inspector Calls book is also recommended to read through beforehand as these work along the same lines to remind you of what you've read.
My daughter found these useful in picking up areas she'd missed or not understood from the notes, so it's well worth doing while reading the book and not just before the exam.
