Dolly Perkins and Jack Larkin have grown up in the notorious gin palaces of Birmingham.
It’s a world of happiness and friendship, but also violence and poverty. Now that Dolly runs the Daydream Gin Palace on Gin Barrel Lane she can finally control her own destiny, but sometimes fate still plays its hand.
Keen to expand her empire, Dolly and Jack take on a new pub, but they are in for a shock when a foul smell in one of the bedrooms turns out to come from a body hidden in the wall.
As the police hunt for their suspect, rumours abound, spread by the local urchins – happy to be used as runners for a little bit of food and a coin or two.
But rumours can be dangerous, and as one of the worst winters on record covers everything in snow, Dolly and Jack have to fight for the lives they have made for themselves, and for the urchins that they have come to think of as family. Will the arrival of a new baby on Gin Barrel Lane bring the promise of new hope, or will the long-awaited thaw uncover new secrets and new tragedies…
The Queen of Black Country sagas is back on Gin Barrel Lane with a rip-roaring, heart-warming, page-turning story of family, friendship and beating the odds. Perfect for fans of Val Wood and Lyn Andrews.

From the Publisher

Hello there!
Thank you for stopping by and looking at my books, which are written in and around the Black Country in Victorian England.
It’s always my aim to enable readers to step into the world of poverty stricken characters and experience the rigors of their lives, but also to hope there is a happy ending. If I can raise a smile, bring tears or elicit any emotion for my readers then I feel I have achieved my goal.
I hope you enjoy browsing my books.
Much love, Lindsey.

About the author

I was born and raised in Wednesbury, West Midlands. I am married with two children and three grandchildren. I now live in the Shropshire countryside with my husband, Labrador and our owl. Typing up the manuscripts for my mother (Meg Hutchinson) rekindled my love of story telling and it seems I am destined to follow in her footsteps. Retired now, I continue to teach an evening dance class. I love to read, I enjoy photography, as well as socialising with friends. I also love to holiday in exotic places. I have been fortunate enough to visit Egypt, Turkey, Greece, Russia, China, India, Israel and Thailand.
I feel truly blessed to have books published; the next, The Runaway Children is out on 10th February 2022, and I'm working on yet another!
I would like to thank all those who have bought my books and especially those who have taken the time to review them. These reviews are very important to an author so... keep 'em coming please!

I could barely put the first one down at times but it took me time to get into this one..
I’ve just recently started reading Lindsay Hutchinson and I’m quite addicted, her books are a bit like Catherine Cookson and I’ve always loved her.
Lindsay Hutchinson definately brings the characters to life and there is always someone you can identify with.
I think this book was a lot like the first one.
Love from Julia
I sincerely hope there’s going to be another soon to continue their story.
