Poor by her own high standards

All the ingredients were there. The set up was intriguing. The "new" expert was an interesting diversion, but it felt as if the story simply went through the motions and limped along to an all too predictable conclusion. For new readers and older readers, there was no explanation or recap of Karen's back story. Churchill, her new boss, is a caricatured cliche. Nothing further was developed for the personnel within the department - no liaisons explored, no difficulties explained, no grumpy SOCO accounted for, no new police methods - nothing that added bite and drama to the storyline and I felt this was a whole bunch of opportunities missed to add power and intrigue to the book that might have made it rather more special.

Normally, DS is so very good at what she does. That's what makes this book so strangely disappointing...

Having read all the books in the series & enjoyed them very much I felt this was not as good a previous novels. It was an interesting story line but just didn't have that excitement with twists & turns we usually get. I wasn't
surprised when finding out who the murderer wad which I have to say is usual with other novels. Maybe just a one off under par book from the author. Will still look our for the next one & keep my fingers crossed.

Love love love d.s butler series, but this was a let down.
From start to finish I found the book predictable, slow and boring. Another “ds hart victim” at the end .. big fight.. guy dies, just average and boring ending.
Disappointed. Was looking forward to reading this.
Wouldn’t recommend.
