This method uses building blocks to eventually build up to useful sentences, not only teaching you sentence structure, but also very useful vocabulary...things you'll actually use.
I have the complete audio course, which I can't praise highly enough! This book is a fantastic addition to my Paul Noble collection. It can be used alone, or can be used with the audio course so you have an opportunity to learn to recognise written French as well as spoken.
I highly recommend this book (and the complete audio course) to anyone who has previously struggled, as I find this method is perfect for learning to say useful things very quickly! After only a few days I was able to say more than I've ever been able to before over 35 years of trying to learn. It helps you to form your own sentences, allowing you have conversations...or even just order food, book a room, or make general statements to people about how you feel, or what you'd like to do, or have been doing...confidently, knowing that you understand how the sentence is put together, and what all the words mean, rather than just learning a phrase without really understanding the meaning of the individual words. Paul Noble's method of learning is the best I've used so far, and I'm looking forward to learning even more.
Learning through repetition is a good thing, of course. But this book’s level of repetition is something else - and not in a good way. It’s soooo boring that you wish to break the first rule of the book: “Don’t skip anything.” after a couple of chapters. If you can’t remember the french for “I have” after a couple of repeats I don’t think you will after two chapters of droning on about it either!
And finally, trying to cover the blue printed words or phrases all the time (they are the answers to Paul’s questions) is tricky with the paperback.
No, this book hasn’t helped me one bit so far, I’m afraid to say. Thankfully it was cheap, so not a big loss...
Now 7 years out of school, I am working alongside french and loving french TV. I didn't enjoy apps as it was mostly vocab and not teaching fundamental rules.
Enter this book... This book is brilliant. Whether new to French or looking for a refresh, this book skips the usual blarf of teaching you how to say your name, where you live, what colour your dog is... And lays out sentence structure so you can build USEFUL sentences.
There are so many handy explanations I was never taught in school that makes everything click! It's such a good feeling.
Far exceeds expectations!
It really has unlocked it for me.
Ive tried all sorts of books and audio courses but this finally pulled it together for me.
I found this a very easy to read and easy to follow book. Paul lays the foundations and then builds on them without you barely realising it.
