Thought I had previously written a 5star review for this but cannot find it now.
Anyway - I have had this item for 6 weeks now. It is a great idea and I love(d) it, but unfortunately it does not appear to be man enough for the job.
In the first week, the head unit locking nut snapped. I had an excellent response from the supplier who issued me a code voucher with which I was able to obtain a pack of spare locknuts. Great!
But ... the clamp end is also fragile. It needs to be done up very tight to stop the clamp sliding free with the small movements caused by the touchscreen.
It is fair to say that the item description does warn about overtightening, but the clamp slides around or falls of unless tight. It did not help that the rubber gripping pad on the lower clamp (photo 3) also is not securely stuck and itself moved about, losing grip for the clamp.
This morning the inevitable happened and the clamp snapped off. The unit is now useless, past return date of course!
I found it so useful that I am almost tempted to buy another one, but I hope sense will prevail. 6 weeks is not an acceptable lifetime for it. A great pity. A bit stronger and I would have given it 10 stars!

Meant to make this edit long ago.
I must state that the supplier clearly read my review above and immediately sent a replacement unit which I am still using successfully. I have now added a star to my original three, not just for that excellent service but because my original instinct was to give 5 stars. Held back on the fifth as the original unit did break, pointing to an inherent weak spot. However, I am being much more careful with this replacement and it is doing all I wanted of it.

If you are elderly or have a weak grip you’ll struggle to uncoil it. Once it’s been straightened it’s much easier to position.

This clamps firmly with a screw motion with a hand size grip and holds the iPad firmly, I had it directly above my head with no problem. One thing worth noting is this is incredibly stiff when you receive it, it’s coiled like a spring.By Matt on 29 July 2018

I'd like to point out that some rivals claim they do not support the Google Nexus 7 2013, this will if you mount it top to bottom rather than clamping the sides as with most devices. This also fit my phone (again top to bottom clamp).
Finally for anyone who experiences squeaking when you move it, just loosen the clamp a little and it goes away mostly.

Works exactly as advertised, mounts pretty much anywhere, holds my Samsung GalaxyTab S 8.4 very securely. The gooseneck is very stiff, which is great for holding devices. I have personally clamped this to a radiator, wooden and metal headboards/bars, copper water pipes, a thick desk & none of these surfaces have been damaged.By Christian on 10 November 2016
