To be honest I was in between books and saw that my friend had liked the author on Facebook, so I downloaded the book. I'm so glad I did! It's not my usual genre but it is extremely well written with unexpected twists and turns. The characters are so realistic and I know their connections are all leading into the overall picture of the series. I hope I enjoy the melted sea as much as this book. Would recommend to anyone - it has a toe in a few different genres. If you like Patrick Rothfus, Diana Gabaldon, Karen Marie Moning you'll like this.

I loved this story. Finn was a tree for a hundred years & she wants to know why. She sets off to initially find someone to turn her back into a tree, but as she gradually turns more human that changes. She is accompanied by an old man, a sell sword, twin scholars, a lady & her man. Along the way there is danger, betrayal & a breaking up of their party.
Will Finn survive everything that is thrown her way? That remains to be seen as I dive headlong into the next book!

As a beginning the writing is good, and there is great potential to the story. Just missing some more magical action as a start.

Am I intrigued enough to read the next book? I think so, but we shall see.

The history and developments hinted at are excellent and the blurb got me hooked enough to buy it. But I wanted more magic action or learning from the story. It’s lack left me feeling slightly empty.

I come to the story and it appears to be an epic in development, with eight books available at time of writing this review.

My final question is if I came to this first book with the next book unavailable would I want to wait for the next? I find my answer is yes I could wait, but I would be intrigued enough by the story so far to read more...

If you're looking for an easy read, this is for you.

I found it rather unengaging, and forgettable. For me, characters were flat, uninteresting, clichéd. The story didn't captivate. Think 'Tangled' mixed with some LOTR, which wasn't as awesome as it sounds.

As a fan of fantasy books I was looking forward to reading this and was not disappointed. I liked the style and found the characters easy to understand and remember, and the strands of the story easy to follow. This one book of course does not finish the threads as the story has another 2 books to follow. I will be completing the story with the other books soon. A great read.

I don't usually read this type of book but I was at a loss for something else to read, I saw this and liked the foreword, so thought why not. I feel that the beginning of the story where Finn meets Aed and the lead up to their journey was a tad too short as if something was missing. That is the only one thing that I didn't quite like, the rest of the story I feel was really good and different from my normal read.
