About the Author

Gayla Partridge is a Texas native with a Fine Arts degree from the University of Texas at Austin. Her initial creative focus was stained glass; however, in 2002, she began working in photography, launching a successful ten-year career creating high-concept fine art designing and photographing intensely detailed and complex handmade sets, costumes and vignettes. Gayla brings the same eye for fine art and detail to embroidery, her newest creative passion.

Amazing book! I'm very new to embroidery, and this book is just fantastic for inspiration. I've seen lots of reviews saying it's not a beginners book, but I have to disagree, I think if you're a beginner, maybe watch a few YouTube tutorials on any stitches you're not familiar or confident with and then get stuck in! To be completely honest the stitches used are relatively easy and uncomplicated. Just have a bit of confidence in yourself and go for it! Amazing book if you're a fan of witchy bits and bobs and stuff that's a bit weird and will scare your nana!

This is a very weird and wonderful book, this is the complete opposite of the pretty little flowers I normally embroider. I’ve been looking for an embroidery book like this for a while so when I came across this one I was not disappointed, the patterns in the back of the book can be taken out and scanned and enlarged and your still left with the diagrams that go with the instructions. In my opinion it was well worth the money****

Disappointed with this book. The photography was lovely. There was no information about the development or reasons why the art was made. Lacks any real descriptions or background info. About one 5th of the book really bad and lots of un necessary templates. I won’t be keeping this

Fabulously different embroidery book. Beautifully presented book and very inspirational. Paterns are full size which to me is very important. There are no detailed step by step instructions, rather encouragement to make the projects your own, not for a complete beginner.

This is a great book for ideas and for enjoying a slightly alternative side of needlework. The author makes suggestions of what stitch to use where but there's no defining guide. It's up to the stitcher to try their hand at building up their design. I think for that reason this book won't suit everyone. I want to stitch some of the patterns onto black linen but not sure how I will copy design onto the dark fabric, but that's my issue not the book's problem.
