I would give these 5 stars when the cost drops to £300. At the moment, I feel that £380 is too much. Having said that, I am still going to keep them, because I enjoy them so much.

Firstly, yes - they are quite a nice upgrade from the M4. I much prefer the style and fit - the ear cups and pads in particular.
First impressions, compared to previous model, and a similar priced wired headphone with portable amp:
Good points
- they look and feel more modern and sturdy
- the ear cups are bigger / wider and more comfortable
- the sound is more detailed and less bassy than my WH1000M3
- I would describe the sound as dark and relaxed, not detailed, and very little treble
- the controls work perfectly
- the ANC is incredibly good - even with high sharp noises
Not so good
- the plastic REALLY attracts finger marks - worse than any other Sony earphones
- headband is slightly less comfortable than before
- quality of sound still less than headphones costing half the price
- they don’t fold 😬
Compared to the same money options (£380)
- my Sennheiser Momentum 2 (in the photo) pared with the ifi HipDac 2, sounds significantly better - more detail, much wider soundstage, better separation, and more punch.
So, my initial conclusion after listening and comparing for 3 hours is ….
Over priced, and still no where near the sound of a decent quality wired headphone. But, I love the look and feel of them, and the sound is very relaxing for just listening when traveling.
They are a definite keeper for me. Although I will test them some more over the weekend.

Quick update on the morning of day 2:
Turning up the volume brings a lot more resolution and dynamics to the sound.
It raises the quality of sound closer to the Momentum 2 with HipDac 2.
However, it remains disappointing that they lack so much detail at lower volumes.
