I'm still only about halfway through this and it's already getting on my nerves so much that I had to stop to write this review. The author really needs to learn the difference between "languishing" and "languid". She described the body language/posture of some partygoers as "languishing" where what she was actually trying to describe was people behaving languidly. "Languishing" means a state of emptiness, weakness and stagnation, such as might be experiences by someone in captivity. "Languidly" pertains to a state of relaxation, tiredness or inactivity, especially when pleasurable. This is a very bad error for a published writer to make.

Like others I have already grown tired of incessant references to "ski-slope noses, freckles and smooth tanned skin" in this novel. One thing Claire Douglas does seem to excel at is creating central characters who are so irritating and pathetic that they make you lose any possibility of empathy for them and their predicaments.

As with all Claire Douglas’s books, it’s left me irreversibly psychologically damaged. I would be disappointed if hadn’t. Now passed on to my group of murder/psycho loving friends for their souls to be ripped out as well. Claire Douglas has the propensity to turn me into a raging alcoholic. I heartily recommend!

Abi is a vulnerable woman who has experienced mental health issues due to blaming herself for the death of her twin sister. She is trying to build a new life for herself in a new town and believes she finds the answer to her needs when she meets Beatrice and her twin brother Ben. But something doesn't seem right. Is there something sinister behind Beatrice's friendliness and desire to help or is Abi self-sabotaging because of her survivor's guilt? Some chapters are written from the perspective of Abi in first person and others portray Beatrice's perspective in third person so you don't know for sure if the 'something amiss' lies with Beatrice or Abi (or both). Once I was about halfway or so through I found I couldn't stop reading; although I guessed what the 'something amiss' was on a basic level, there were complex elements to it and I needed to know what it was all about. A gripping read.

I recently read The Couple at No 9 by the same author and enjoyed it, so thought I'd give this one a go. Big mistake, it was awful - in fact I have only managed to read half of it before giving up because the story (so far) is contrived, totally unbelievable and boring. I can barely believe it's by the same author, the premise is that a twin whose sister has died in a car accident for which she was responsible has met a look-a-like in the street who she befriends, ends up moving in and falling in love with their twin. Life is too short to have ploughed through the rest of the book, for me it was just a poor story which failed to engage me, there was certainly no tension and I gave up because frankly I didn't warm to any of the characters or care what would become of them.

This is the 2nd book I have read by Claire Douglas. Couple at No 9 was so good and kept me in suspense at the end of every chapter till the very end. So I quickly downloaded another one. The sisters and it is an other book that keeps you guessing what is going to happen. Absolutely brilliant novel and hard to put down. Away to start Now she vanishes. Thank goodness it’s the holidays. 5*

The first third of the book was like wading through treacle … lots of nothing happening, lots of ‘hazel eyes’ ‘ski slope nose’ ‘blonde hair’ descriptions over and over again….
Then it picked up the pace towards the end …. Was an ok read for my 30 minutes lunch breaks, as I didn’t have to think too much!
Ending was acceptable in spite of my total apathy towards the main characters 😆

Well I wasn't disappointed, it kept me wondering what was going on. Yes I can relate to a bond you have with your twin, but mine is my sister. Wonderfully written

This was a good story which kept me guessing throughout. The main character was called Abi and I felt for her at times as she had lost her twin sister and was still grieving. I did feel the story to be a bit slow in the middle but it picked up again near the end but still an enjoyable thriller.
