The 2007 novel Silver Bay by Jojo Moyes, the bestselling author of Me Before You and two-time winner of the RNA Novel of the Year award.
Liza McCullen will never escape her past. But the unspoilt beaches and tight-knit community of Silver Bay offer the freedom and safety she craves - if not for herself, then for her young daughter, Hannah.
Until Mike Dormer arrives as a guest in her aunt's hotel, and the peace of Silver Bay is shattered. The mild-mannered Englishman with his too-smart clothes and disturbing eyes could destroy everything Liza has worked so hard to protect: not only the family business and the bay that harbours her beloved whales, but also her conviction that she will never love - never deserve to love - again.

Some of the themes explored in the book were good ideas, but not treated particularly well.
I felt that the last chapter was unnecessary and after rereading the last page several times it still confused me.
It wasn't until about 3 chapters in that I found myself hooked and looking forward to finding out what happens next.
I found myself loving Mike and his aura radiating from the pages. What I thought he would do he did the opposite and I loved it! Found myself wishing i knew a real life Kathleen and Nino!!
Definitely worth reading as although a slow starter it ended with a bang!! 4 starts just because it was hard to get into.
This is a well told and researched story of love, loss and the courage to selflessly do the right thing, no matter what the cost. The story is told from the perspective of all the interlinked characters in this small bay and the money men with dollars in their eyes and a lack of conscience in their hearts.
The pace is faultless, as is the character development and draws the reader into the story with bated breath and fingers crossed.
This story will appeal to readers of You Before Me and fans of Cecelia Ahern.
It’s a good and enjoyable read with plenty of interesting characters involved.
This novel is beautifuly written, and meticulously reaearched. There is a strong love story, and some really delightful characters, and the tension builds up nicely as the plot develops. My one reservation concerns the ending. The final twist in the plot stretched (my) credibility, which rather spoilt the story for me, and I think the last part of the novel went on a bit too long. It could possibly have done with shortening and tightening up a bit. However, I did enjoy this book very much, although perhaps not quite as much as I have some of the author's other novels, and I do recommend it.
