Even the darkest secrets can’t stay buried forever…
Five figures gather round a shallow grave. They had all taken turns to dig. An adult sized hole would have taken longer. An innocent life had been taken but the pact had been made. Their secrets would be buried, bound in blood…
Years later, a headmistress is found brutally strangled, the first in a spate of gruesome murders which shock the Black Country.
But when human remains are discovered at a former children’s home, disturbing secrets are also unearthed. Detective Kim Stone fast realises she’s on the hunt for a twisted individual whose killing spree spans decades.
As the body count rises, Kim needs to stop the murderer before they strike again. But to catch the killer, can Kim confront the demons of her own past before it’s too late?
An absolutely gripping, darkly compelling, and nail-bitingly tense mystery thriller that will keep you racing through the pages long into the night. A Kindle Chart #1, million-copy, international bestseller, Silent Scream turns fans of Rachel Abbott, Val McDermid and Mark Billingham into Angela Marsons addicts.
Watch out for more from Detective Kim Stone
A detective hiding dark secrets, Kim Stone will stop at nothing to protect the innocent. Silent Scream is the first book in the series.
What readers are saying about Silent Scream:
‘I absolutely loved it!…This one is one of the best crime thrillers I've read in a long time, and that includes mainstream authors such as James Patterson! I would seriously put this book in the same league.’ Fiona’s Book Reviews
‘Wow. That's all I need to say… one of the best books I've read so far this year… gripping… hooks you in from chapter one… you won't want to put it down… fantastic.’ Little Northern Soul
‘I found myself biting my nails numerous times… to say that this book is brilliant is an understatement.’ Relax and Read Reviews
‘Marsons for me is the QUEEN of this genre. She knows how to add the human touch to each story and I just adore her. Bloody FABULOUS.’ Postcard Reviews
‘The uber-sharp Kim Stone has to be one of the best detectives out there.’ Bookpreneur
‘D.I. Kim Stone is the most fascinating character to arrive on the scene since Val McDermid gave us Tony Hill.’ Mark Edwards
‘I have not been so impressed by a debut novel in a long time, and I'm actually now itching for more… D.I. Kim Stone is like the British Jane Rizzoli. She's so ballsy and doesn't understand the meaning of the word no. I LOVE heroines who just do what they want and sod the consequences and Kim did that, right from the beginning… I can't wait for the second book, because this one was a top-notch crime thriller.’ Leah Loves
‘I don't think I've been so hooked by a new author since the discovery of Mark Edwards or Mark Billingham… Silent Scream gets 5 stars from me - if you finish a crime thriller feeling like you just need to have a lie-down and a cup of tea to get your breath back, then the writer has done their job. Angela Marsons, I still don't have my breath back.’ Reading Room with a View
‘Normally when I see everybody rating a book five stars I think 'Is it really that good?' Silent Scream is that good, and then some… a huge star within the genre.’ Book Addict Shaun
‘I started reading Silent Scream thinking I would just read a few chapters. I ended up reading it all… An excellent read and one I would happily recommend.’ Northern Crime
‘The D.I. Kim Stone books are nothing short of brilliant.’ Nigel Adams Book Worm
‘Angela Marsons is fast becoming one of the best crime fiction authors going'. The Laughing Librarian

About the Author
Review
I defy anyone to turn away from the page. I was glued to this book...a truly gripping and, at times, terrifying story.--Book Addict Shaun on Play Dead
I read this book in one sitting, yes it really was that good ... the perfect crime thriller, well plotted, great characters, suspense ... and the most deviant and chilling serial killer... Utterly gripping and it's certainly going to be in my top reads of 2016 ... 5 stars out of 5 plus a glass of wine (to steady my nerves, after reading such a heart-pounding crime thriller).--The Book Review Cafe on Play Dead --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

About the author

Angela Marsons is the Wall Street Journal and USA Today bestselling author of the DI Kim Stone series and her books have sold more than 5 million in 7 years.
She lives in Worcestershire with her partner and their 2 cheeky Golden Retrievers.
She first discovered her love of writing at Junior School when actual lessons came second to watching other people and quietly making up her own stories about them. Her report card invariably read "Angela would do well if she minded her own business as well as she minds other people's".
After years of writing relationship based stories (The Forgotten Woman and Dear Mother) Angela turned to Crime, fictionally speaking of course, and developed a character that refused to go away.
She is signed to Bookouture.com for a total of 28 books in the Kim Stone series and her books have been translated into more than 27 languages.
Many of her books, including Blood Lines, Dead Souls, Broken Bones, Fatal Promise and Dead Memories reached the #1 spot on Amazon on pre-orders alone and the translation of Dead Souls, La Verita Sepolte, recently won the prestigious Primo Bancarella award.

What sets this first book apart from the rest is the story line, and how it has been examined, and developed by the author. That's what carried me along throughout, not the quality of the writing, or the strength of the characters, but the ingenious nature of the basic story. As with all series, it's not always possible to maintain the high level achieved in the first few books. With sixteen to complete, this author has a stiff challenge ahead. I'm happy to work my way through the next books that followed to see if she can make it. I hope she does.
People were raving on how awesome this is and I was excited to read it.
But alas, immediately it got clear that I would not enjoy this book at all.
There are a of irrelevant things, straight from the start, just to fill the pages.
This doesn't make the author a good writer or a wordsmith of some kind.
Quite the opposite. It is a horrible writing style, which makes the story drag on longer than necessary & frankly it is unfair to the readers
I mean fair enough if you try to capture something or you try to build up something with the description.
But here the author kept describing things in painstaking detail that had no meaning for the story whatsoever and that made it an ordeal to get through every single page.
This shouldn't be a book at all, if you take out all the meaningless things it would probably be not even half the size and you would be through the story within a few minutes.
On top of this the main character Kim Stone is an unlikable and rude bitch, the other characters are not fully build out and are forgettable, and the conversations are dull and have no depth.
And not to forget the way how they use proper language and then suddenly switch over to to "ain't", "yo", and "yer", etc., making reading the conversations even more unbearable.
I couldn't be bothered to read as far as to find out who the killer is.
I doubt I take anything away from this so exciting story when I presume that the killer is trying to keep the murder in the Prologue a secret and I presume more killings will follow.
I have returned this book and I can't wait for Amazon to remove it from my Kindle Library.
This was the first and very last time I read anything from the author Angela Marsons!
I will stick to Tess Gerritsen, who is a great author and knows how to capture the readers with her stories!
Anyway, the book itself was ok, I was hoping for amazing judging by the reviews but ok is all I got. It was a slog to read for the most part, lots of long descriptions of places, people, feelings that bored me. I didn't enjoy the character of Kim, she came across as trying too hard to be surly and tough instead of it just coming naturally to her. It picked up towards the end and I warmed to her slightly, maybe enough to try the next book but if it's more of the same I won't read more by this author. I hope there are no more accents put into the next book too. Trying to read those accents was terrible and made a mockery out of the characters that spoke like that. Also, and this may make me sound terrible, I had no sympathy for the young victims in this story. You're supposed to care and be horrified by their fate but I wasn't at all and that's not good. You should want justice for them as you're reading. I mostly just wanted justice for the animals in the book.
I did enjoy the parts from the killers perspective though, they held a good insight into their very disturbing mind.
Anyway, there's a good chance I'll read the next one but only if it is 99p like this one, I wouldn't be willing to pay more.
Crime procedural books are not my absolute favourite and I did find the first part of the book a little dry. It was by the numbers however the story began to take a dark turn and eventually, it became a very haunting and extremely chilling read. Credit must go for Marsons for holding my attention and then really engaging me with the story. (However, I did guess who the killer was)
The writing is superb and the dialogue is snappy. Each character has a personality and voice and I found some of them had a good amount of growth throughout the story.
The reason this loses a star is because I tried so hard to like Kim Stone. She ticks all the boxes for a lead character in these types of books - she is a maverick, she is tough, she doesn't follow the rules etc. She has a motorbike. Yet, I found her the least likable of the entire team which sadly damaged my fondness for the book. She comes across as a bully (even saying as much in one part) and despite her own dark past, usually a sign of a protagonist is to not let that change you. I know she is incredibly popular with readers and hopefully in future books her character arc changes slightly.
All in all, this was a good read on the beach and I will check in with the next ones.
