Let me tell you that I'm a 64 year old technophobe, yet even I found it easy to transfer all our important 'stuff' onto this drive. I would say that within 15 minutes I had all of our chosen files on this drive. Really, if you know how to transfer files onto a conventional memory stick then you'll intuitively be able to use this Seagate portable drive.
For peace of mind, we've now got our Seagate hard drive safely stored away in a dust-proof, moisture-proof, anti-static case, of which there are many on Amazon to choose from. We're very pleased with this hard drive, so I have no hesitation in recommending it to you.

This HD failed within two weeks. I started getting corrupted data messages from the PS4. As I have a launch day model, I thought that it might have been the PS4. So I disassembled the PS$, completely cleaned the fan and heat sink. The PS4 was running A okay, but the corrupted data message continued, forcing me to reset the console several times. This went on for two further days, until after a reset the PS4 wasn't able to reformat the HD or write to it and I received IO error messages (IO is how devices connect to each other physically). Just awful.
As an aside, Amazon have been great about this. I explained everything and they compensated me, so that I could get a different HD. I went for a WD, which hasn't let me down.
thought stick with the same brand (despite some of the comments) - However - from plugging the Seagate 1tb into my PC, got various I/O errors when copying files, computer crashed a couple of times, even when trying to delete files from it the drive it was slow and got a "Not responding" message a number of times.
Even after the PC restart, the drive didn't show, had to unplug it an reconnect it.
It even said check for errors and repair.
Very disappointed with this product.... not sure what to purchase now!
yet tried copying the same files with the older drive and they copied within a minute and deleted just as quick.
So clearly something wrong with the drive..... requested a return
I have no connection with Segate nor any other vested interest, but I would say I've had literally dozens of their drives over the years and only ever had one failure.
Also worth pointing out that almost every other make and model have similar comments, if not quite as many. I guess people are more likely to post negative comments when they have suffered a failure of some kind?
More recently, I've been using these 2.5" USB 5TB drives for video library use. They don't get hammered, but do cope perfectly well for this fairly demanding use.
No storage device is ever 100% reliable nor lasts forever. So, whilst I do sympathise with those folk who have lost valuable data, I would always advocate BACKUP, BACKUP and BACKUP!
Generally, have AT LEAST one copy of everything, preferably kept in another physical location. That way, when the inevitable eventually happens, you won't get that deep sick feeling that all your important data is lost forever.
I will keep buying these 2.5" USB3 drives as they are compact, fast (for my use) and cheap enough to have another one elsewhere as backup.
When first used this drive worked and all appeared to be fine. It accepted the data (around 380 GB) and could be read and copied from. Subsequenly (4 to 5 months later) it developed an intermittent fault when attemping to write data to the drive. Initially the write speed would be normal, but it would then drop to a few kbyte/s then after 4 or 5 minutes that would drop again to zero kbyte/s. Again after a few minutes and error message would appear suggesting that the destination was unknown.
When checking the avaible drives displayed on the PC the drive that was allocated to this HDD was no longer displayed.
Having tried several times I then decided to performed a FULL (slow) format of this HDD. Unfortunately, that did not cure the problem and the intermittent fault remains.
As the drive cannot be relied upon, it is probably best to buy an alternative and avoid this one.
As a general point this drive does feel and look some what cheaper than my older seagate drive of the same capacity (1 TB).
