How customer reviews and ratings work
Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings, help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.

UPDATE... I have my replacement and all is well. I installed the card to one of my m2 connections (the lower one on the rog Crosshair Formula vii ... no heatshield required there and it doesn't share the pcie with my graphics card in that port. VERY FAST to clone existing ssd drive.. 9 minutes.. All software loads incredibly fast.. Great Product.

I eagerly awaited my new ssd card and when I opened it, all what was in the box were 3 perfectly cut cardboard squares and NO sdd card. VERY DISAPPOINTED...... Spoke to customer support who said they would send a replacement..... Still annoyed that it happened... Maybe dishonest staff at amazon???

Best hold off on purchasing these from Amazon as they have a fake batch of Samsung 970 Pro's in their distribution stock. I received this on 20/10/2018 so until they sort this out best hold off. There is glue on the gold connectors, it is not even an M Key connector more like compact flash. It has no memory chips in between the paper cover. It is literally made of paper with some incompatible connector poorly glued. How this has occurred because the box was sealed?

I have two Samsung 970 Evo Plus 1TB M2 drives. The first was purchased in December 2019 and the second in September 2021:
1:
The first 970 Evo Plus 1TB (December 2019) will have a 5.45 GB file copied over to it from an SSD drive in ~3.27 secs.
The second 970 Evo Plus 1TB (September 2021) will have a 5.45 GB file copied over to it from an SSD drive in ~14.49 secs.
2:
The first 970 Evo Plus 1TB copies it over at about 2.5GB/s, slowing a little to about 1.8-2.0GB/s during the last 75% of the transfer.
The second 970 Evo Plus 1TB copies it over at about 2.5GB/s and then after about 60% slows down to a little below 190MB/s.
3:
The first 970 Evo Plus 1TB (December 2019) has Drive Firmware Revision: 2B2QEXM7
The second 970 Evo Plus 1TB (December 2019) has Drive Firmware Revision: 3B2QEXM7
4.
The packaging is slightly different between revisions but the MODEL NUMBERS ARE IDENTICAL as are the barcodes.
The first 970 Evo Plus 1TB (December 2019) packaging has Made in China printed on it.
The first 970 Evo Plus 1TB (December 2019) packaging has Made in Korea printed on it.
I would strongly suggest people keep well away from the very popular 1TB version of the 970 Evo Plus unless you can be sure of which revision you are getting. Samsung has pulled a fast one and pulled a bait-and-switch, as our American cousins would say. I cannot say if other versions of the 970 Pro Evo Plus have been affected.

Great product. Does the job. Fast. Reason why I only gave it 3 starts for "Easy to Install" is because the Samsung Magician Software for cloning SSD's is crap. It didn't recognise the attached USB drive for cloning. Having read various forums, the solution was to use free cloning software by a company called Macrium. Macrium was amazing - easy to use, recognised the Samsung SSD and made a perfect copy of the bootable drive. I bought several USB enclosures for the Samsung SSD and had to return as they did not recognise the drive. Finally, I bought the Adwits enclosure which recognised the Samsung SSD immediately in Windows. So would suggest you buy
"Adwits USB 3.1 UASP Type-C to NVMe M.2 High-Performance PCIe SSD Adapter, Portable HDD Enclosure Case for Samsung, Kingston, ADATA, DREVO and More NVM" to go with this drive.

This is very fast and you will notice a huge difference if coming from a mechanical hard drive. If your motherboard supports 4 PCIe lanes on the M.2 slot. If however you only have 2 lanes (Boards with a Z97 chipset for example) then not so fast but it will still be faster than a SATA SSD. You can however purchase a "M.2 PCIe NVMe or PCIe AHCI SSD to PCIe 3.0 x4 Adapter Card" if your board only has 2 PCIe lanes. The adapter will give you 4 lanes, provided you have a free slot on your Motherboard that uses 4 lanes. Also make sure to download the latest Samsung NVMe driver and the Magician software from the Samsung website.

The first paragraph of this review is specific to Macbook purposes. Skip if this isn't relevant to your situation.
I only bought one because I had to; the Macbook Air 2013-2017 don't use 2.5" SATA, so if you want to upgrade one you'll need an M.2 drive like this and a third-party adapter bracket. I used this drive, fearing that the NVMe controller might be a problem, but happily it isn't. On a 2017 Macbook Air 13" it worked fine without any messing about. Older Macbooks might struggle because the built-in Internet Recovery service doesn't have NVMe support, so if that's the case make sure you have USB installation media for High Sierra before you begin.
Now some general points to put this SSD in context compared to other SSDs: yes, it has ridiculously fast data transfer speeds. No, it doesn't matter to 99% of people. It can do sustained sequential reads around the 2.1GB/s mark, which is ridiculous. It uses 4 lanes of a PCI-express bus, which is massive overkill for normal domestic use.
A previous reviewer discussing the 960 EVO mentioned that he noticed an improvement in large-file CAD work but saw absolutely no improvement in gaming and normal computer use scenarios, and I have to agree. If you're shuffling around very large files routinely - copying and editing video, for example - this drive will benefit you over a normal 2.5" SATA drive.
If you're playing games, doing Twitch streaming or using Photoshop, or just bimbling around the internet with a few tabs open while listening to music - don't kid yourself. Don't waste your money. A regular 2.5" SATA drive like the 850 EVO or Crucial MX500 will be just as good. It's actually quite annoying that M.2 drives are becoming the default choice for so many platforms and users given how overpriced they are, costing significantly more per gigabyte but offering no perceptible improvement for most users.
